Fall Movie Preview: Kid Stuff

For the last post in my Fall Movie Preview series, let's take a look at some of the fun kid stuff that'll be hitting the theaters in the coming months. Some of these movies look like they will be lots of fun for grown-ups, too.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
Natalie Portman, Jason Bateman and Dustin Hoffman all star in this whimsical tale of a magical toy shop. The brightly colored trailer makes the movie look quirky and cute - definitely a winner for both young and old. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium hits theaters November 16.

More fun kid stuff if you

read more Bee Movie Jerry Seinfeld co-wrote and lent his voice to this animated story of Barry B. Benson, a bee who discovers that humans have been stealing bees' honey so he decides to sue. In addition he befriends a human named Vanessa (voiced by Renee Zellweger), and they seem to have some kind of bee-human romance thing going on, but we won't find out what really happens until Bee Movie opens November 2. Alvin and the Chipmunks I'm not convinced that this upcoming version of Alvin and the Chipmunks will be any good, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Jason Lee stars as the ever-aggravated Dave, struggling to deal with the bizarre antics of his three rascally chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Take a look at the trailer to see what you think before Alvin and the Chipmunks opens in theaters December 14. Sydney White Sydney White looks like that fun movie that will be perfect to go see with your little girl cousins. In this modern-day Snow White tale, Amanda Bynes plays Sydney White, a college freshman at a school where the sorority sisters rule. When Sydney finds that she's not exactly a good match for the sisters, she ends up rooming with seven geeky guys who agree to help Sydney get back at those nasty sorority witches. Amanda Bynes Is Such A Dear

Fresh off her endless Hairspray promotional tour, Amanda Bynes was back on the red carpet at Sushi Samba (yum, yum) in NYC last night to celebrate her new Steve & Barry's clothing line, Dear. Just like SJP with Bitten, Amanda opted to keep her line at the affordable chain so all her little fans can get their hands on her wares. Even though Amanda's been looking more and more like a generic blonde starlet these days, her spunky personality still separates her from the pack. Obviously she's still very appealing to the younger teen set, too. Check out the preview for her latest teen movie, Sydney White, a modern take on Snow White.

First Look: Amanda Bynes in Sydney White

Wow, with this movie and the news about Disney's Snow White and the Shaolin Monks project, it looks like Miss Snow White is enjoying a bit of a comeback.

In Sydney White, Amanda Bynes plays... Sydney White, a college freshman at a school where the sorority sisters rule. When Sydney finds that she's not exactly a good match for the sisters, she ends up rooming with seven geeky guys who agree to help Sydney get back at those nasty sorority witches.

From the trailer (which originally appeared on MySpace, hence the introduction by Amanda Bynes) it looks like a cutesier, less sarcastic Mean Girls, with a large dose of wide-eyed Bynes charm.

Miranda Returns to Australia With a White Bikini and Baby Flynn

Miranda Kerr was in a white bikini today for a photo shoot in Sydney! She tweeted this morning about heading off to work on a feature destined for British Vogue. Miranda was last in Tokyo working for a few days, but nonetheless remembered to tweet a "Happy Australia Day" to her fellow Aussies Wednesday. Thursday was a big day for her, too, as Miranda's cameo on Project Runway: All Stars finally aired.

The supermodel touched down in her native Australia Saturday after visiting Asia, and immediately reconnected with her relatives. She brought son Flynn along for lunch in the city's Surry Hills neighborhood yesterday with her mother Therese. Orlando Bloom skipped out on the jaunt to Japan, but met up with Miranda and Therese for the trip Down Under.

Naomi Watts Goes Simple and Sexy to Sip Wine in Sydney

Naomi Watts posed in a sexy black and white dress at an event for Jacob's Creek Wine in Sydney's Centennial Park today. She's an ambassador for the brand and spent the evening mingling with friends, sipping wine, and listening to live jazz to launch their latest Cool Harvest blend. Naomi's whole family made the trip to Australia last week and they've been enjoying the Summer season Down Under ever since. Naomi, Liev Schreiber, Sasha, and Samuel went for a walk and spent time on Bronte beach, where Naomi wore a retro bikini to splash in the water. The vacation comes at the beginning of a busy year for Liev and Naomi, which includes the April release of a project they both have roles in called Movie 43.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire let their gorgeous red and white vintage vehicle steal the scene as they shot The Great Gatsby in Sydney today. The best friends and costars started work filming Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of the beloved novel earlier this week after months of preparation. Leonardo and Tobey arrived to The Great Gatsby set just a few days ago and their costar Isla Fisher was also spotted for the first time decked out as her character Myrtle Wilson. The coveted role of Daisy Buchanan ultimately went to Carey Mulligan, though the Oscar-nominated actress has yet to be photographed Down Under. Leonardo met his girlfriend Blake Lively during the casting process for Daisy; she may not have scored the part, but she did land her real-life leading man. Today is her 24th birthday, and she is currently in NYC shooting Gossip Girl, but Blake and Leonardo were able to spend last weekend together before he reported for duty in Australia.

Love It or Hate It? High-Gloss Ceilings

The glossy white ceiling of this Coogee Beach, Sydney, home is by no means subtle. It's flashy and reflective, snazzy and arresting. But it works because the home - complete with a dreamy interior courtyard - has been designed to the nines. An "unfinished" room could not pull this off; it'd be like wearing a khaki shirtdress with rhinestone Louboutins.

I would consider this effect in a smaller room and in a darker shade - perhaps Benjamin Moore's Old Navy? The white is a little too Miami for my tastes. What do you say?

Miranda Kerr Hits the Runway For David Jones in a Tiny Swimsuit!

Miranda Kerr wore a swimsuit and a smile this afternoon when she hit the runway for Australian retailer David Jones in Sydney. She modeled a variety of outfits that will be available in its stores, including pieces from Aussie designers Collette Dinnigan, Camilla Franks, and Alex Perry. Her cutout one-piece was by the company Jets. Miranda changed into a white lace dress for the afterparty held at the city's Royal Hall of Industries. David Jones is keeping Miranda busy during her time Down Under between an in-store appearance and photo shoots. Today's catwalk appearance was Miranda's first since welcoming her son Flynn in January. Miranda said of her return to the runway in the Bond girl-esque suit, "I am a little nervous about getting back on the runway after just having a baby seven months ago in a swimsuit. But you know, I have been doing my squats, and I started Pilates as well as my usual yoga routine." Orlando Bloom watched Miranda prep for the show, but he wasn't able to stay for the actual event as he flew to New Zealand to start work on the next Lord of the Rings.

Miranda Kerr Steps Out For a Sexy and Fascinating Photo Shoot

Miranda Kerr sported a bright, summery dress and blue fascinator for a photo shoot in Sydney today. Miranda's trip Down Under serves two purposes: she's modeling for David Jones, and it's the first time she brought her son to her native country. Miranda and very smiley baby Flynn touched down in Australia last week, and since then she's been fulfilling her duties for the fashion line with a photo call and posing here in their latest collection. The shoot had a day-at-the-races theme, complete with a white horse who Miranda pet between takes. Even when Flynn isn't along for the work day, he's never far from Miranda's mind. In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Miranda revealed that Flynn is a little "bundle of joy" and husband Orlando Bloom helps with the diapers. While according to Miranda, they do hope to have another baby one day, they're overjoyed with 6-month-old Flynn for the moment.
