While Brad Pitt's been busy releasing photos of his new babies, his production company, Plan B, has picked up the rights to a four-volume manga series by Mark Crilley titled Miki Falls. Variety has more details:
Story chronicles the final year of high school for Miki Yoshida, the series’ protag who tries to befriend handsome new student Hiro Sakurai but is met with resistance. Stubborn Miki, however, refuses to take no for an answer, which leads to a surprising revelation about the secretive young man.

In a night filled with quite a few repeats, the Supernatural Christmas episode seems like it could be a bright spot. The episode finds brother demon-hunters Sam and Dean Winchester investigating a series of mysterious murders in which the victims were sucked up through the chimney — kind of like Santa in reverse. In fact, the brothers realize their killer himself is a demonic Anti-Santa.

While Phasekitty was collecting news from many of the movie panels at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend, many TV shows were breaking news of their own. Among the most exciting bits: Kevin Smith will be directing an episode of "Heroes: Origins," the spinoff that's set to air next spring. The announcement apparently took even the "Heroes" cast by surprise, as one member exclaimed, "No way!

- Ladies and gentlemen, we have our Supergirl. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has been cast as Superman's counterpart on "Smallville." Vandervoort, who most recently played Sadie on The N's "Instant Star" and had a role in The Lookout, will make her debut in the show's season premiere.
- Meanwhile, Katie Cassidy — David Cassidy's 20-year-old daughter — will join the cast of "Supernatural."

The results of E! TV writer Kristin Veitch's Save One Show poll are in, and after more than 6 million votes, Kristin's declared not one but two winners: "Gilmore Girls" and "Veronica Mars." Kristin has an interesting account of how the voting went down, including "Gilmore"'s last-second comeback against "Veronica," which had been the clear winner.

Dear Hollywood: Could you please stop killing Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
His Judah Botwin on "Weeds" keeled over before the show even started, widowing Mary-Louise Parker's character and leaving us with only sun-dappled flashbacks. Then he wooed "Grey's Anatomy" intern Izzie — and me, and the female half of America — as heart patient Denny Duquette, only to die and leave me pining.
