Harrison and Shia Could Reunite For Indy 5

The details are still coming together, but we may not have seen the last of Harrison Ford in his Indiana Jones fedora just yet. At the Deauville Film Festival, Ford mentioned that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are working on yet another Indy sequel, saying, "The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again."

Though Ford didn't exactly announce Shia's LaBeouf involvement, the young actor also recently mentioned that Spielberg was working on a sequel when he was promoting Transformers 2. While nothing is set in stone, it's hard to imagine that Ford would reject a script from Lucas and Spielberg after so many years of working together. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull scored big at the box office, but many of you thought the sequel was unnecessary. So now the real question is - are you on board with yet another Indy movie?

Spielberg Takes on Michael Crichton's Pirate Story

Steven Spielberg plans to produce and is thinking of directing a film adaptation of the late Michael Crichton's as-yet-unreleased novel Pirate Latitudes. The book will be adapted by screenwriter David Koepp, who developed the screenplay for Jurassic Park. Set for release Nov. 24, the story is set in 1665 and tells of "a daring plan to infiltrate Port Royal, one of the world's richest and most notorious cities, and raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure."

Stacey Snider, Spielberg's producing partner and CEO of DreamWorks acknowledges that the studio will be distributing another pirate story, the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but that the "movies won't clash because Pirate Latitudes will be more grounded in reality, as opposed to the supernatural fantasy of the Disney films."

Apparently, Spielberg "always wanted to direct his own pirate film," and he has only heartwarming things to say about the late author's work: "Michael wrote a real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen. Michael and I have had almost two decades of solid collaborations. Whenever I made a film from a Michael Crichton book or screenplay, I knew I was in good hands. Michael felt the same, and we like to think he still does." Awww.

Spielberg Planning Harvey Adaptation

For his next project, Steven Spielberg is reportedly looking back a few decades to a Pulitzer Prize-winning play featuring an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit: Harvey. The play was turned into a 1950 movie starring Jimmy Stewart as the "amiable eccentric" at the heart of the story, Elwood P. Dowd, who has a friendship with a tall, invisible bunny (Harvey). The movie explores how this friendship affects Elwood's family and friends.

Though Spielberg has been attached to several projects (like the Abraham Lincoln biopic, which has been whispered about for nearly two years), movement on Harvey is actually happening now: casting and pre-production are set to begin immediately and production is scheduled to begin in early 2010.

Producer Tom Rothman called Spielberg "a filmmaker who combines the mastery of craft, tone, wit and insight that Harvey embodies. Steven Spielberg is film's greatest humanist. And we feel blessed as Elwood himself to be collaborating with him, Stacey [Snider], and everyone at DreamWorks." Snider added, "This is a story relevant for all times, perhaps more so than ever before."

Are You Interested in Projects About World War II?

Usually when Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg team up to tell stories about World War II, the results are pretty spectacular - witness Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. So I'm expecting a lot from The Pacific, the pair's follow-up miniseries for HBO. The project doesn't have an air date yet, but a lot of work has clearly gone into this 10-episode chronicle of three marines fighting in the Pacific: it started shooting in 2007, and it's rumored to have a $200 million budget.

The trailer's out now, and it looks like a slick and epic project. But it also got me thinking: World War II has been popular fodder for years now, not just for Spielberg and Hanks but for lots of other film and TV storytellers. Do you think there are still more compelling stories to be told about that era? Or do you tune out at the very mention of victory gardens and D-Day?

Spielberg Has a Dream to Bring MLK Jr.'s Life to the Big Screen

This news of a movie about Martin Luther King Jr.'s life is indeed timely. Produced by Steven Spielberg, "[t]he DreamWorks project marks the first film to be authorized by King's estate and gives the producers the right to utilize King's intellectual property - including his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech delivered during the 1963 March on Washington - to create the definitive portrait of his life." Apparently Spielberg has long wished to make a movie about the civil rights leader and he is determined to create "a story of undeniable power that we can all be proud of."

After the critical success of the Harvey Milk biopic last Fall, it's easy to envision a moving and insightful story about Martin Luther King Jr., another powerful activist whose life was cut far too short. Is there an actor in Hollywood who could aptly portray Martin Luther King? Or perhaps they should look for a total newcomer?

Watch The United States of Tara - Right Here!

One of my dozen reasons to watch TV this month, Showtime's The United States of Tara sounds like a fascinating series. From Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, produced by Steven Spielberg, and starring Toni Collette, the show is a half-hour comedy about a subject that's not often fodder for yuks: multiple personalities.

Collette stars as a woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder, which causes her to experience life as a number of different people: Tara, the suburban housewife and mother; T, a flirtatious teenager; Buck, a gun-toting man; and Alice, a perfect '50s-style homemaker. This wreaks havoc - but, apparently, hilarious havoc - on Tara's husband (John Corbett) and their teenage children.

The series premieres Sunday, Jan. 18, at 10 p.m. - but there's no need to wait. Showtime's slipped me a copy of the first episode, and you can check it out right here on Buzz if you read more.

First Look: Nurse Jackie and The United States of Tara

Showtime's got several intriguing new shows on its roster, and recently, the network released first glimpses of two of them: The United States of Tara and Nurse Jackie, both of which have intriguing actresses in the lead roles.

The United States of Tara, which premieres in January, stars Toni Collette as a woman with multiple-personality disorder. The clip has some scenes from the show, and in between those, the stars (and writer Diablo Cody) talk about how the project came together out of an idea from Steven Spielberg.

Nurse Jackie, which stars Edie Falco as a nurse walking the line between saint and sinner, doesn't have a premiere date yet, but I've been curious about it ever since I saw a haunting trailer for it back at TCA. Unfortunately, this clip doesn't have quite the drama of that trailer, but it's still nice just to get an idea of what the show will look like.
