Does Something Borrowed Deserve a Film Sequel?

I read Emily Giffin's novel Something Borrowed, as well as its sequel, Something Blue, last Summer, finding both novels to be relatable (though at times frustrating), but enjoyable beach reads. With that said, I was disappointed with the film adaptation, and couldn't hide that in my review for Something Borrowed. However, there were two bright spots in the movie: John Krasinski and Kate Hudson.

Sarcastic Ethan and sassy Darcy easily have the most personality of any of the characters in the film, and their performances were the most fun to watch. With that in mind, I'm actually rooting for Something Blue, the sequel that follows Ethan and Darcy in London, to get the big-screen treatment. The story is more straightforward with fewer side characters, and Krasinski and Hudson could very well have believable comedic chemistry that turns into romance. Whether or not the film will get made is still up in the air, so tell me - do you think Something Borrowed deserves a sequel, even though it isn't soaring at the box office or with critics?

Something Borrowed: Let's Cast Marcus!

Word on the street is that Colin Farrell, who was supposed to play Marcus in the movie version of Something Blue, isn't going to be in the movie after all. I think this is actually good news, since Marcus is not really supposed to be a hot guy, and Farrell is really pretty smoldering. So I'm trying my hand at casting someone for the Something Borrowed/Something Blue movies like I did with Darcy, only this time it's Marcus, the side character who romances both Darcy and Rachel. He's kind of charming, kind of dopey, but superficial Darcy deduces that he's not sexy enough - for her, anyway.

My own personal brainstorming has produced Sean William Scott, Joshua Jackson, and Bryan Greenberg, and Dax Shepard - they all have that sort-of-cute quality to me, but I know plenty of people who think they're hot - and many who definitely think they're not. So that's who I'd pick - what about you?

Can We Please Recast Something Borrowed, Something Blue?

I'd heard that they were making Emily Giffin's chick lit book Something Borrowed and its sequel Something Blue into movies, so I figured I'd read them. I started reading after Ginnifer Goodwin was announced as Rachel, so I envisioned her throughout, and wound up thinking she was a good fit. However, by the time I got to Something Blue, I found that Kate Hudson would be playing Darcy and I instantly hated the idea.

Besides the book's physical description of Darcy (dark hair, olive skin, drop dead gorgeous), I just don't see Hudson in the part. She's already played the bitchy BFF in Bride Wars, and she was entirely unsympathetic in that, so I don't see her pulling off the transition from mean girl to nice girl like Darcy does in Something Blue. And I definitely can't see her meshing with John Krasinski, who plays her love interest. If I were the casting director, these would be my suggestions: Olivia Wilde, Lake Bell, Becki Newton, or Jordana Brewster. Who would you rather see as Darcy?

Colin Egglesfield to Be the "Borrowed" of Something Borrowed

Getting the boot from Melrose Place may just be the best thing that's ever happened to Colin Egglesfield. The guy formerly known as Auggie has just signed on for the buzzed-about adaptation of the chick lit novel Something Borrowed, opposite Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski. Egglesfield will play Dex, the main guy whom the story's lead, Rachel White, carries on an affair with - and he just also happens to be her BFF's fiance.

I'll admit I'm fairly shocked by this casting. Egglesfield didn't seem like the strongest actor on Melrose, and now he's getting thrown into a hefty movie with bigger names. Someone must have had a very good audition, indeed.

If you're a fan of the book, what do you think of this news? Does Egglesfield seem like a good fit?

John Krasinski Is Someone Borrowed and Someone Blue

It might not be time for John Krasinski to slip into a superhero costume just yet, but you can still look forwarding to seeing that Jim Halpert smirk on the big screen again soon. Krasinski is in talks to star opposite Ginnifer Goodwin in Something Borrowed, as well as the sequel Something Blue. Here's the catch - he'll have a smaller role in the first film as Ginnifer's close friend before stepping up as the leading man and love interest in the second film.

I've always had a soft spot for Krasinski, and I particularly loved watching him ham it up in It's Complicated. Though it sounds like he's trying to break into something outside the rom-com realm, I'm happy to have him stick around for now. Fans of the books - is Krasinski a good fit?

Ginnifer Goodwin to Find Something Borrowed

Ginnifer Goodwin is looking for another kind of big love: the actress is in talks to star in Something Borrowed, the movie adaptation of Emily Giffin's best-selling novel about a woman whose love triangle threatens an engagement. Goodwin knows a thing or two about love triangles (and beyond) from her TV role as Big Love's Margene, but I'm pretty excited to see her try her hand at another romantic comedy - especially since He's Just Not That Into isn't exactly my favorite.

Hilary Swank's company is producing the film after she made news this Summer about buying the movie rights, but she apparently has opted not to star, leaving those honors to Goodwin. Fans of the book, are you happy with this casting?

Hilary Swank Buys Up Rights to Something Borrowed

Soon, author Emily Giffin will find something of hers borrowed for the big screen - her stories. Hilary Swank and her producing partner Molly Smith have bought the rights to Giffin's popular novels Something Borrowed and Something Blue, and they may end up being "starring vehicles" for Swank. We were just talking about these producing partners and another book-to-movie deal that may star Swank: French Women Don't Get Fat. That Hilary Swank! She keeps busy.

Variety explains that Something Borrowed follows "a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend's fiance following her 30th birthday." Something Borrowed is my favorite of all of Giffin's books (it even inspired a Buzzworthy Challenge way back when) so I really hope they don't mess this up! Along the same lines, I don't really envision Swank in this role. At all. I might be on a Rebecca Hall kick after seeing her in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, but I really think she'd be a better fit. Or. . .anyone else. What do you think? Have you read Giffin's books?
