Udacity and 14 Other Free Sites For Online Learning

After seeing the success of a personal experiment offering a free Stanford University-certified artificial intelligence course (23,000 people completed the class!), Sebastian Thrun left his prestigious professor position to dedicate himself to teaching on a much larger scale. His new program, Udacity will offer free university-level computer science classes to anyone interested in advancing their tech knowledge.

The two courses currently up for the taking are "CS 101: Building a Search Engine" and "CS 373: Programming a Robotic Car." But that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to free online classes. Here, a list of places to point your web browser for free classes online, so you can soak up all the knowledge your brain can handle.

Yale Open Courses - Named one of Time magazine's top 50 websites of 2011, Yale's classes allow anyone to browse through lectures and course materials in subjects including engineering, chemistry, astronomy, sociology, Spanish, history, and more.

Sam Worthington had to shoot Man on a Ledge high up in the NYC sky, but that fear was nothing compared to what is ahead for him in Avatar 2. Sam is ready to go whenever James Cameron is, and apparently the sequel will require some serious scuba diving skills from the actor. Really though, Sam is just looking to make fun movies, which is why he picked MOAL. Sam also revealed his own disappointment in his performance in Clash of the Titans and how he fixed things this time around for Wrath of the Titans. As for a dream role? Tonight will cap off a big 2011 for the Beckhams, which included the arrival of Harper, David and Victoria's first daughter. The couple also saw lots of professional success this year on the soccer field and in the fashion world. David was back in the game following an injury to help lead the LA Galaxy to the MLS cup, and Victoria's latest collections once again received rave reviews from critics and her many celebrity fans.

The Beckhams definitely looked ready to celebrate as they headed out this evening, with Victoria sporting sky-high heels and a dress, and David and the boys looking dapper in their suits. Here's to a happy 2012 for the family of six!

Winter Running Woe: Burning Lungs

Temps across the country are plummeting, but a little cold (or even snow) won't keep die-hard runners indoors. Layering up with wicking clothes is the key to staying warm and dry while sweating it out, but what about breathing in that frigid air? It's not only painful to inhale, but since the air is often dry, it causes your airways to narrow, making it harder to breathe.

If running in the cold makes your lungs burn or causes you to cough, try this simple solution: wear a moisture-wicking neck warmer, like this Smartwool Neck Gaiter ($25), over your mouth. It'll not only keep cool air off your neck, but the gaiter also traps the natural water vapor you exhale, making the air you inhale moist and a bit warmer, which is easier on your lungs. A regular scarf could also work, but who wants to wrestle with slowly unraveling loose ends, especially on a windy day? Another benefit is that a neck warmer can be lowered below your chin or easily slipped off, bunched up, and stored in your pocket after you warm up, while a scarf is much too bulky.

When temps dip really low, you'll probably prefer a balaclava that covers your nose, mouth, ears, and head. It may look a little scary, but at least you'll be warm and comfortable. Plus it's a great option whether you breathe through your nose or mouth, although you might find breathing through your nose may ease the burning in your lungs - just bring along tissues in case your nose runs.
