The brightly-colored, beautiful new video for Sia's song "Soon We'll Be Found" (off her album Some People Have Real Problems) is full of hands in motion. There are lyrics depicted in sign language, shadow puppetry, and neon-bright hands dancing and painting against a black background. The song is pretty, at times more mournful sounding than the visuals might suggest, but overall I'm mesmerized by this whole video.

Back when Alanis Morissette covered Fergie's "My Humps," I thought it was funny. Now Australian pop star Sia has done a cover of Britney's "Gimme More", which comes to us via Underwire, and it actually makes me like the song a little more. Slowed down and made into a sweeter tune, Sia's song is less nightclub and more coffee shop.

When I saw LA neo-folkies Lavender Diamond open for the Decemberists last year, I wasn't quite sure what to make of them. They were either completely charming or way too sweet and precious — and that went double for lead singer Becky Stark, who reminded me alternately of someone who could be my best friend and someone who should be hosting children's television.
Their new video — for the single "Open Your Heart," off their first album, Imagine Our Love, — isn't helping me make up my mind.

Cover songs typically get a bad rap, but every once and a while a remake of a catchy track comes along that's worthy of its predecessor. (Just take Sinead O'Connor's version of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," for instance).
Kelly Clarkson did her own renditions of The White Stripes's "Seven Nation Army" and Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" in concert earlier this week, and her samplings weren't half bad.
