Movie Preview: Shrek Forever After

Hope you're not tired of the sudden influx of movie trailers lately (in the past few days we've taken a peek at Iron Man 2, The Runaways, and Alice in Wonderland), because now here's one for the fourth Shrek film. In Shrek Forever After, Shrek grows tired of his quiet life with Fiona (and ogre babies!) and inadvertently signs a contract that turns his world upside down. In the alternate Far Far Away universe, Shrek's friends don't recognize him, Puss in Boots has fattened up and Fiona appears to be some kind of criminal.

Of course it's got the voices we've come to know and love along with the typical wisecracks, but I have to admit that I'm kind of relieved to hear that this will be the last chapter in the franchise. Don't get me wrong - I love that big green ogre, but I think it may be time to let the films be remembered as classics and move on to something new.

The Young Victoria hits limited theaters on Friday, with Emily Blunt as the 19th-century royal in her younger years. Blunt's already up for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her depiction of Queen Victoria, but she's not the first Hollywood star to don a crown. Awww - Puss in Boots Spinoff in the Works!

I know many people love Donkey in the Shrek movies, but my heart belongs to Puss in Boots, "the feline assassin/swordsman" voiced hilariously by Antonio Banderas. So this news delights me: There's a Puss in Boots movie spinoff in the works, and it just got TV writer Tom Wheeler to do the script.

No plot details yet, but I don't care. I could watch Puss - and the gingerbread man! - for hours. I certainly prefer this movie to yet another Shrek installment (the fourth is set to hit theaters in May of 2010). What do you think about a Puss in Boots movie? Totally adorable? Or unoriginal? TV Tonight: Shrek the Halls

It's not even a week since Thanksgiving, but Christmas special season is well underway on ABC. The network aired the classic Charlie Brown Christmas on Tuesday, and tonight brings our first look at the newest animated holiday special, Shrek the Halls.

The whole original Shrek gang - including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz - is around for this half-hour special, which finds Shrek struggling to get into the holiday spirit. Who would have known Shrek wasn't much for decked halls and mistletoe? Of course, Donkey, Puss in Boots and the rest of the clan will rally the silly ogre into yuletide shape before the end of the half-hour. Maybe this will turn out to be a holiday classic - but even if it's not, we can recover by watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas immediately after. (Pushing Daisies follows at 9 p.m., while Private Practice takes the night off.)

ABC will broadcast a Shrek Christmas special called Shrek the Halls in November, and The Futon Critic has the details.
Country singer Porter Wagoner has died at age 80, reports the AP.
The LA Times has already declared the top 10 albums of the year.
Variety has news that Greg Berlanti will write and direct a live-action Green Lantern movie.
Paris Hilton's movie The Hottie and the Nottie will be released February 8, writes E! Online.
Yahoo! Music reports that the new Duran Duran video has been banned from British television for being "too controversial."
Jerry Seinfeld will host Fox's Talkshow this Saturday, Broadcasting & Cable reports, while regular host Spike Feresten will be a guest.

Last week, I challenged you to tell me some of the best airplane movies that have kept you entertained on long trips. Sounds like a few of you have had some good in-flight watching recently! Here were a few of my favorite picks:

Titanic
Bookmarked by tdamji, who wrote: "Not only is this 3 hour+ movie great for in-flight-movie-watching due to the great musical score and romantic qualities which can easily transport anyone to another time and place, but it brings back memories for me because I remember watching it during the 8 hour flight to England, my first overseas trip, which was my high school graduation present in 1998."

Uptown Girls
Menthadict checked this one out from 30,000 feet. She wrote: "A charming, entertaining movie about a girl who grew up too quickly and a girl who hasn't grown up at all. A little music, a little shirtless man, all in all, a nice flick to watch."

What's Buzzworthy? Animated Family Movies

This Friday, Ratatouille hits theaters nationwide, and I can't wait. I'm a sucker for anything Pixar, and I've loved many of the animated family movies that have come out in recent years - especially The Incredibles and the Shrek movies. I'll go to the theaters to see these movies even when I don't have a child (read: legitimate excuse) to bring with me.

Movie Preview: Shrek the Third

The Moviefone website describes the newest Shrek movie, coming out May 18, like this:

Shrek, Donkey, Puss In Boots and Fiona are back for another fun-and-pun-filled adventure, and this time they're joined by Captain Hook, Sir Lancelot and ... Justin Timberlake as King Arthur?! Long story short: Get ready for some 'Sexyback,' medieval-style.

I'm sorry, but it just seems wrong to merge an animated children's character with the words "Sexyback" and "medieval-style." Regardless, the Shrek the Third trailer was just released today, so check it out.
