Halloween Costume Idea: Nomi Malone From Showgirls

The costume: Nomi Malone
Showgirls has become a cult classic since its 1995 release, and with good reason. Not only does the cheesy flick have some pretty memorable scenes (Elizabeth Berkley and Kyle MacLachlan thrashing in the pool comes to mind), but it also has some pretty memorable quotes. Ver-sayce, anyone?

Hair and makeup: It's relatively easy to transform into Nomi. Start by wearing a curly wig in a light brown or blond hue. For a '90s effect, be sure to wear obvious brown-toned liner on the outer portion of the lips, topped off with a similarly colored glossy lipstick. Finish with a very smoky eye and highly defined brows - and don't forget the full-coverage foundation.

What to wear: Sparkles, feathers, leather. Basically, anything skimpy goes for this one. But if you want something a little more tame, go with Nomi's Stardust audition ensemble (seen in the widget below).

Take it to the next level: To put your Nomi look over the edge, be sure to wear some pretty serious nail art. Nomi, after all, does her own nails.

Michelle Williams finally won her first Golden Globe award for her work in My Week With Marilyn, and after her extremely sweet and touching acceptance speech, she stepped back to the press room. Michelle continued the lovefest for the people in her life, talking about being inspired by the faces of her friends and of course by daughter Matilda. Check out the quotes:

On who she shares the honors with: Oh my goodness, so many people, how much time do we have? You realize when you find yourself in this very lucky position, you're not there alone. It's endless. There’s too many. My family, the people I worked with, the driver who listened to two months of vocal warm up on the way to work every day.

On the hardest part of the role: Sometimes I think the hardest part was just saying yes. Taking on that journey, that responsibility.

On Marilyn not getting nominated for The Prince and the Showgirl: I have tremendous fondness for that performance, of course I've watched it so many times, and while I think that film meanders and falls apart a bit but at the end, she’s luminous. My Week With Marilyn: Michelle Williams Brings Back the Magic of Monroe

In My Week With Marilyn, Michelle Williams takes on the formidable challenge of playing '50s screen siren Marilyn Monroe. She proves that she's capable and delivers a performance that goes beyond mimicking Monroe; Williams creates a character that you appreciate outside of the real person. The film follows Marilyn while she was in the UK filming the 1957 movie The Prince and the Showgirl opposite Laurence Olivier, but the story is told from someone far less famous than those Hollywood legends. Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne), a young production assistant on the film, wrote the memoir the film is based on, and the story - and impression of Marilyn - are all from his perspective.

The shooting of the film doesn't go smoothly, due to the difficulties caused by Monroe's acting insecurities. She frustrates Olivier, who is not just her leading man, but also director and producer. Marilyn needs constant support, but when her new husband Arthur Miller has to go back to the US to work, she has to find it elsewhere, and takes a shine to Colin. They become friends and confidantes for a week, and they're a magical few days for Colin. Though he experiences ups and downs with the actress, he still falls for the woman easily, in much the same way that I fell for this lovely film. The new movie follows the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl and explores Marilyn's tumultuous relationship with one of her leading men, legend Sir Laurence Olivier. While many actors who starred alongside Marilyn raved about her tremendous vulnerability and ability as a comedienne, almost all said she was rather difficult to work with. My Week With Marilyn Director Talks Michelle Williams and the Modern Marilyn Monroe Obsession

"It's a love letter to the agony and ecstasy of celebrity," director Simon Curtis, pictured above, told me about his latest project, My Week With Marilyn. The film starring Michelle Williams is out on Nov. 23, and follows the icon on a 1956 trip to London, which doubled as a honeymoon with playwright Arthur Miller and a work trip to film The Prince and the Showgirl. The movie, based on two books, catches up with Marilyn after her husband leaves and she begins to befriend 23-year-old set assistant Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne).

My Week With Marilyn attempts to pull back layers of Marilyn the sex symbol to reveal a more authentic depiction of the private star - without turning her into a depressed or drudged-out caricature. I sat down with the filmmaker, and here's what Simon Curtis told me about Michelle's performance and what he learned about Marilyn Monroe.

TrèsSugar: Why did you want Michelle Williams to play Marilyn Monroe?
Simon Curtis: With Marilyn Monroe you have a certain, very limited number of people who are the right age, the right potential Marilyn Monroe looks. Michelle was way at the top of my list. Not only is she gifted and brilliant, she's incredibly hardworking and she wanted her performance to be as good as I did.

TS: You came in with high expectations. Did the performance exceed that?
SC: Yes, it does actually. You never know when you're making something, but she just amazed me on every single day. There's something about her fearlessness taking on the complexity of Marilyn, who I think a modern mental health professional would diagnose somewhere in the bipolar, borderline personality area. And certainly those wild mood swings - one of those beguiling things about Marilyn is that you never knew who was going to walk in the door, or who was going to walk out. And Michelle just went for it and presented this multifaceted character who's also incredible as Marilyn.

TS: What about those bookend song performances by Michelle? I had to do a double take for the final one because I couldn't quite tell if it was Michelle or Marilyn.
SC: We wanted to present in those songs the fantasy, the Marilyn people saw or remember, because so much of our film is this private, unexpected Marilyn.

TS: The movie is a window into her life rather than a biopic. By experiencing the details of her life, what do you think will surprise audiences about Marilyn?
SC: This is a very crucial time in Marilyn's life. In 1956, she came to London with such high hopes because she was going to work with the great Laurence Olivier, she had set up her own production company way ahead of her time, was in fact a producer of this film, and of course was married to the great Arthur Miller, who she thought was going to rescue her and give her some intellectual credibility. And the story of our film is how those things all went very quickly wrong.

TS: But there's a lot of humor in that dark story of things gone wrong. It sort of surprised me how feel-good it was in a way.
SC: I'm glad. It's a very nuanced film and there is a lot of darker stuff, but that's right. It's a love letter to filmmaking, the agony and ecstasy of filmmaking. I love it that the actors found so much humor, specifically Ken Branagh. We wanted it to have all of those qualities.

The Story Behind My Week With Marilyn

The trailer for My Week With Marilyn Monroe is out, and while we want to see the whole movie before we decide how well Michelle Williams pulls off the iconic starlet, we're already intrigued by the story. In 1956, Marilyn flew to London with her new husband, playwright Arthur Miller, for their honeymoon and also to film her new movie The Prince and the Showgirl. The film catches up with Marilyn after her husband leaves England and Marilyn really begins to explore Britain with her escort, 23-year-old Colin Clark, a gofer on the set of the film.

In his book, The Prince, the Showgirl, and Me: Six Months on the Set With Marilyn and Olivier, Clark shares his diary from the experience. He describes Marilyn as being sad, insecure, medicated, and surrounded by manipulative sycophants. Of his first introduction to Marilyn, Clark recalls, "She looked absolutely frightful . . . Nasty complexion, a lot of facial hair, shapeless figure and, when the glasses came off, a very vague look in her eye." Not quite the Marilyn who comes across in pictures and on film.

While Clark's first book gave a lot of gossipy insight, one week was missing. When Arthur Miller left for a trip to Paris for a week, Clark was free to help Marilyn escape the pressures of the set and the constant hanger-oners. For his second book, Marilyn and Me, Clark shares this part of his diary describing how he escorted the starlet around Britain, and readers learn how they gained each other's trust and affection. Clark's experience with the "real" Marilyn over the course of this week is what the movie aims to portray. Are you intrigued?
