First Look: Coco Chanel on Lifetime

With the fashion world abuzz at New York Fashion Week right now, it seems an apt time for Lifetime to premiere its look at the life of one of fashion's true icons: Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel stars Shirley MacLaine as the legendary designer (and Barbora Bobulova as the young Coco) who began life in a French orphanage and worked her way up through the fashion world, ultimately bringing us classic suits, the little black dress, and a perfume that's endured for decades.

Lifetime calls Chanel "a glamorous woman who was hard to love and harder to ignore," and that comes through in this trailer. Yes, there's the obligatory breathless "fashion! is! my! life!" declaration, but there are also some great scenes of MacLaine's Coco berating a woman for wearing a subpar outfit and literally ripping the skirt off her body. Oh, if only she could bring her sharp tongue to the Project Runway stage!

Fox has announced the schedule for the first weeks of American Idol, with the auditions starting Jan. 15 and the first live show airing Feb. 21; details are at The Futon Critic.
Rainn Wilson will host the Independent Spirit Awards in February, Variety reports.
According to Zap2It, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (formerly Eko on Lost) has been cast in the live-action G.I. Joe movie.
Lou Reed will be the keynote speaker for the South by Southwest in 2008, writes Billboard.
Stephen Colbert is the AP Celebrity of the Year, the Associated Press reports.
A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila is getting a spinoff called That's Amore, writes the New York Daily News.
MTV is making an original musical called The American Mall from the High School Musical producers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A Gossip Girl-inspired reality show appears to be in the works, TV Guide reports.
The season finale of Dexter became Showtime's most watched broadcast ever on Sunday, according to Zap2it.
Variety reports that Shirley MacLaine will play CoCo Chanel in a Lifetime miniseries.

The Results Are In: Recast Who's the Boss?

Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

Recast Results: "Bewitched"

For this week's Recast challenge, I asked you to choose a new cast for the old television series "Bewitched" - but no Will Ferrells or Nicole Kidmans allowed. You all came up with some interesting casting decisions; I especially liked WhiplashGirlchild's idea to use real-life married couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick along with "Everybody Loves Raymond" mom Doris Roberts.

While a little on the younger side, I loved Controlledspin's pick of Sarah Chalke for Samantha, and many of you chose Jim Carrey for Darrin, which seems perfect since Carrey so closely resembles Dick York. And the part of me that grew up on "Who's the Boss" was delighted by Katherine Helmond (Mona) as Endora, chosen by Yiddidea.
