Usually buzz lines is the provenance of beloved movies, but for this week's challenge, I thought we'd focus on a TV show that's just as quotable as any film: Seinfeld! The iconic show lasted nine seasons, which has afforded us many lines of dialogue to be repeated over and over (sometimes I'm not even aware I'm quoting it). Let's get this rolling - read the first few quotes I've put in below, then tell me what Seinfeld lines are your favorites to quote!

Is Fashion Imitating Polygamists or Elaine From Seinfeld?

The New York Times does nothing if not spot (and/or invent) trends, and this week it's pointed out one that's been walking New York's streets this Summer: young women dressed in floral skirts and dresses, lace-up boots, and messy secretary-bun hair. It's derivative, for sure, but is it imitating fundamentalist Mormons or Elaine Benes from Seinfeld?

The consensus, or the New York Times, says it's Elaine - the more empowering of the two. Julie Louis-Dreyfus, who played Elaine, says the show's goal was for her to look feminine but tough. Elaine "didn’t have girlfriends. She was one of the guys," Julia said. "It wasn’t about trying to look sexy. It was about looking like a girl who pushes people around.”

Considering a lot of the young women sporting the boxy-floral look now are too young to have watched Seinfeld in prime time, it's hard to write it off as nostalgia. Fingers point to the current revival of early-'90s fashion and music as its impetus, but also actress and designer Chloë Sevigny. Oddly enough, she plays a polygamist on Big Love. Maybe it is all connected?!

More likely, it's designer Chloë contributing to the trend. Her 2011 resort collection for Opening Ceremony takes the boxy look and shortens the hems, creating the updated Elaine. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but now that the NYT has called it out whatever comes next will be.

The Cast of Seinfeld Puts Their Reunion on the Cover of EW

We've known about the Seinfeld reunion on the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for a while now, but there's something about seeing the foursome all together again in Entertainment Weekly that's making me feel extra nostalgic. (It's almost enough to make me forget about that whole Michael Richards incident from a few years back - almost). In the article, the cast dishes about what we can expect from their stint on Curb (including a revisit to Jerry's apartment and Monk's diner!) and how it feels to have the gang back together. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus on being back together: "It’s the anti-reunion reunion, and I’d like to copyright that."
Jason Alexander on playing George again: "Just before we shot that scene, I said to Jerry and Julia, ‘I don’t know if I can be George. I haven’t tried him on in a while,' and it was freaky how it just came right back out."
Michael Richards on seeing his former costars again: "I did feel like I was in the company of good friends. It's like, Larry and Jerry are in the front seat, Julia and Jason are in the backseat, and I'm back there in the corner and I'm like a big dog. The window's open, and my head's hanging out the window and I'm feeling all that good air on my face. And I'm just so happy that we're all together, going someplace."

I've drifted in and out of watching Curb for the last few seasons, but, like many of you, I can't wait to see the Seinfeld crew again. Jerry and Larry David also make it clear that there won't be another reunion, so this should be one for the books. Giddyup.

Buzz In: What TV Reunions Would You Like to See?

Last week we heard more talk about the possible onscreen Saved by the Bell reunion when the cast (minus Dustin Diamond) posed for the cover of People, and soon after, Larry David revealed that there will be a Seinfeld reunion as a story arc in an upcoming episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. So what other nostalgia-inducing TV casts should have reunions?

I'd love to see the cast of The Cosby Show reunited because I just think it would be funny, and I'd be curious to see the cast of The Wonder Years all together again. A Friends reunion would be interesting because most of those friends continue to work in Hollywood, though their paths have been different. What do you think? What TV cast reunions would it "feel so good" to see reunited?

A Seinfeld Reunion - and Other News From HBO

HBO took the stage at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday and came out with plenty of big news, including a Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm, new seasons of several shows, and a new animated series from the folks behind The Office. Want to know more? Here goes:

First of all: Seinfeld reunion! Larry David had long insisted such a thing would never happen, but then he decided it might be funny to do it on the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm - so he is! The idea of a Seinfeld reunion will be a major plot on the upcoming season, which will premiere Sept. 20. Jerry Seinfeld will appear in five episodes throughout the season, and Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards will also appear in four to five episodes each, though not necessarily all together. Said David:

We'll see writing, see aspects of the read-through, parts of rehearsal, see the show being filmed, and see it on TV. You won't see the entire show. You'll see parts of the show. You'll get an idea of what happened [to the Seinfeld characters] 11 years later. Within the show, it will be incorporated into regular Curb episodes.
HBO also officially renewed three shows: the new comedy Hung and veterans Entourage and - confirming what we heard at Comic-Con - True Blood. All will return sometime in 2010, with True Blood a lock for a Summer slot.
One of the announcements that excited me most: HBO has officially ordered an animated comedy series from The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, based on their podcasts with Karl Pilkington.
The official word on a possible third season of Flight of the Conchords: "When they're ready, we're ready."
Ideally, Treme (from The Wire creator David Simon) will premiere in the Spring. The fates of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and In Treatment remain undecided. And Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire is practically guaranteed a series order.

Do You Ever Worry About Your Worlds Colliding Online?

I was watching an old episode of Seinfeld the other day (it was "The Pool Guy" episode), and I couldn't help but LOL when George went off on Jerry for introducing Elaine to his girlfriend Susan. If you haven't seen the episode, George gets mad because he doesn't want his "worlds colliding". . . meaning that if his relationship self meets his independent self, it will be the end of independent George (you can check out the clip below).

Anyway, this got me thinking about social networking sites like Facebook, where many people keep their work contacts separated from their friends and therefore, decrease the chances of their "worlds colliding." What do you think about this? Do you keep some sort of separation among your various worlds?
