Buzz In: What Are Your Favorite SNL Political Impersonations?

On the left: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, John McCain's new running mate. On the right: Tina Fey, comedienne extraordinaire. Anyone else see the resemblance? (OK, then check out this photo. See it now?) Most days I wake up happy that Fey has moved on from Saturday Night Live to the uproarious 30 Rock; today, I wish she'd stuck around SNL long enough to play Palin in the run-up to November's election.

I'm assuming Palin's portrayal will fall to the capable hands of Kristin Wiig instead, but the resemblance got me thinking: What are your favorite SNL political impersonations of all time? Fred Armisen's been in a world of controversy over his Obama impression, but how do you think he's done with it? Personally, I've always been a fan of Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton (and pretty impressed at the sheer number of Bush administration characters he's played), though Will Ferrell's George W. Bush is pretty classic, too. What are your favorites?

Buzz In: What Will Be This Year's Most Overdone Pop Culture Costume?

It wouldn't be Halloween without tons of people dressed up like their favorite pop culture icons; in the past few years I've seen countess Amy Winehouses, Sarah Palins, and Madonnas. The ideas lose a lot of their originality when they're all over the place, and I'm sure there will plenty of costume repeats this weekend.

Right off the bat I'm expecting to see more than one Kate Gosselin and Lady Gaga, not to mention Michael Jacksons of all ages. What about you - what's your prediction for the most overdone Halloween costume of 2009? Oh, and if you need a last-minute idea yourself, check out my suggestions for a movie-inspired costume.

Buzz-Worthy Video of the Day: Letterman Apologizes on the Air

Last week, David Letterman made waves (to say the least) when he revealed on the air that he had been blackmailed for $2 million regarding information about sexual affairs with female members of his staff. Whether the announcement surprised you or not, it seems that we all feel sympathetic for Letterman's wife and family. Last night Letterman used his audience as a sounding board once again, apologizing first to members of his staff who have been harassed since the affairs went public, and then to his wife Regina, saying that he has his "work cut out for him." Just like the first time around, Letterman used a casual tone and threw a few jokes in to keep things light, but is it really appropriate to follow-up a heartfelt apology to your wife with a Sarah Palin jab? SNL News: Jenny Slate Swears Herself In, Darrell Hammond May Be Out

New cast member Jenny Slate went from virtual unknown to Internet phenomenon on her first-ever episode of Saturday Night Live over the weekend. She dropped a now infamous "F-Bomb" during a biker-chick sketch that had her saying "freaking" about 50 times - you can barely blame her, it's a pretty easy slip, especially for someone new to live TV. Blogs immediately jumped to Slate's defense, but apparently the alarm was unnecessary. She's not getting fired, there won't be a fine since it was after 10 p.m., and Lorne Michaels supposedly isn't upset. Plus, I'd be willing to bet Miss Slate won't be making that mistake again.

In other SNL news, the show's longest running cast member's name - Darrell Hammond - was missing from the opening credits Saturday night. As recently as last week a rep for the show said he would be back in some capacity, but despite his appearance on Thursday's Weekend Update, he wasn't in any of the skits on Saturday. He's been on the show for 14 seasons and accounts for some of the cornerstone imitations - Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and my personal favorite, Sean Connery. Between the loss of Hammond and no more Tina Fey as Sarah Palin or Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton, there's a bit of a gaping hole in SNL's political satire.

So, what did you think of the season opener? There are some exciting hosts coming our way, but the premiere was a bit lackluster for me. Do you think Jenny Slate should face any sort of punishment for her slip up, or is it all much ado about nothing?

Neil Patrick Harris's Emmy Awards Opening - Love It or Leave It?

The Emmys are officially under way, but let's rewind for a second to Neil Patrick Harris's little song and dance number. He showed off those pipes, making sure to mention how dreamy Jon Hamm is and giving Tina Fey props for her Sarah Palin impression. Then he told a few jokes, making the mandatory jab at Kanye.
