Just yesterday I was talking about how Chris Pine is blowing up after the big success of Star Trek, and his name is already making headlines again this morning. Pine will likely be the next actor to take on the role of Jack Ryan in the next film adaption of the popular Tom Clancy novels. A few actors have taken on the role in the past, and other names have been attached to the project before, so let's take a look at the evolution of Jack Ryan — with a few of my own suggestions for who could take on the role.

Not to be confused with the news earlier today about Garry Marshall's Valentine's Day movie, this is an indie drama titled Blue Valentine that has Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams starring in the lead roles. Now that Ryan's done working alongside Kirsten Dunst in All Good Things and Williams has wrapped up with Leo on Scorsese's Shutter Island, the pair is getting to work on Blue Valentine, playing "a couple whose marriage is failing. As their relationship hits the rocks, they recall better days."

Director Craig Gillespie and Ryan Gosling will combine their talents once more, and no, not for a Lars and the Real Girl sequel.
Titled The Dallas Buyers Club, the movie follows an inspiring true story. Variety has more:
Dallas Buyers Club is the true story of Ron Woodroof, a tough Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live.

Earlier this week I called Sam Raimi a busy guy which is, it turns out, an understatement because now there's news of yet another ambitious Raimi project: the return of Tom Clancy's CIA hero Jack Ryan. Previously, the role of Jack Ryan has been played by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears).
Jack Ryan is not dashing like James Bond, nor is he a highly trained killing machine like Jason Bourne.

This is pretty shocking: Ryan Gosling has suddenly dropped out of Peter Jackson's film adaptation of The Lovely Bones, in which he was supposed to play Susie's father. Mark Wahlberg stepped in to fill the role on Sunday after reading the script, and the film is still scheduled to start shooting today in Pennsylvania.
I was pretty excited when I heard Gosling had been cast in the film, and he certainly seemed committed to the role, recently gaining weight and growing a beard.

In news that made me sit up and go "Whaaaa?!" MTV Movies Blog is stating that AJ — of Aly and AJ — will be playing a part in The Lovely Bones. Apparently, AJ's character is Clarissa, the best friend of Susie, and according to AJ she has "a really emotional, intense, freaky scene with Ryan [Gosling].
