Buzz In: Which Reality Stars Deserve a Spinoff?

This isn't exactly breaking news, but Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt started the rumor mill up again when they mentioned that they're shopping around their own spinoff from The Hills. The show would focus more on their everyday lives and acknowledge their "fame", which apparently has risen to such levels that they've gone and written a book about it.

I'm kind of over The Hills in general, and I think there are plenty of former (or current) reality stars out there who are more deserving of his/her own show. How about Taylor from The Rachel Zoe Project or Santino from Project Runway? Who do you think deserves his or her own reality show?

Reality Show Contestants Still Aren't Here to Make Friends

One of my favorite Internet videos of last year - of all time, really - was the "I'm not here to make friends" montage, a bunch of clips of reality show contestants uttering that now-famous phrase. I just have to wonder: Do these people know that what they're saying is a cliche? Is that why they say it? Or do they really think they're saying something brand new?

Well, now another year has gone by, and the folks from FourFour are back with a new version of the video. These clips feature a whole new batch of not-here-to-be-friendly reality show contestants from this past year of programming (jeez, remember Momma's Boys? Scream Queens?). This year has the added twist, though, of reality shows like Paris Hilton's My New BFF that are about nothing but making friends.

While I'm not sure anything will ever top the original, I did get a kick out of the special spotlight this year's version shines on America's Next Top Model's disagreeable Sandra. To watch the '09 edition of "I'm not here to make friends," just read more.

Have You Ever Gone to a Reality Show Tour?

This year's American Idol top 10 are officially on the road. This year's live tour kicked off in Portland over the weekend (here's Adam and Allison's "Slow Ride" duet) and will be crisscrossing the country through September. It's maybe the best-known of the reality show tours, but plenty of others also take their top acts on the road, from So You Think You Can Dance to America's Best Dance Crew to Nashville Star. I'm wondering: Have you ever gone to one of these live shows?

Which Reality TV Judging Panel Is Your Favorite?

Part of the fun of watching reality TV is watching the judges bicker, tease each other, and occasionally fall all over themselves with praise for a contestant. Some shows pick their judges at the start of the show and never waver; others add guest judges into the mix; still others (say, American Idol) add new full-time judges to shake things up. Tell me: Which reality show has your favorite judging panel overall?

Fox to Marry Strangers on Reality Show

Oh, Fox. The network that kept it classy with Married by America is at it again, this time cooking up a reality show in which couples don't meet till the moment they say their vows.

The show - aptly and honestly called I Married a Stranger - takes one single person fed up with the dating scene and presents his or her friends and family with a set of six possible suitors. When two candidates remain, they both walk down the aisle - but only one steps forward to meet his or her new mate at the altar. The pilot episode was shot with a woman as the frustrated single, but the producers may alternate between men and women in the future. As a source told The Hollywood Reporter:

"She never meets him until the actual moment when they say 'I do.' It's like the big scene that comes after an entire season of The Bachelor, only this is in every episode."

Aside from the question of why people would voluntarily marry a stranger, I'm wondering why Fox would even want this show. Trashy, "marrying folks in sketchy ways" reality TV strikes me as very 2003. Then again, Fox has already generated headlines with More to Love, the show about plus-size people looking for mates - so really, why not arrange some doomed marriages between strangers while you're at it?

Will You Check Out Osbournes: Reloaded?

After tonight's American Idol, Fox will show the premiere of the new variety show Osbournes: Reloaded. The show has some segments filmed in a studio - like a game where a blindfolded man has to kiss a grandma - and others set up as small sketches skewering pop culture, including a spoof of The Hills with Lauren Conrad (below).

This might make me sound like an old lady, but my first response to this show is, "Why is it so loud?" I feel like Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack are yelling at me nonstop. I'm still curious if this concept can work on TV today, so tell me, will you check out Osbournes: Reloaded?

Reality Shows About the Bailout and Plus-Sized Dating? Yup

Two stories about new reality shows are making the rounds today, and I'm not sure which one is making me cringe more. One is an interesting idea in concept but I imagine it'll be cringeworthy in execution, while the other is just a little odd for these times. The deets:

Over on Fox, we have More to Love, a dating show about "a single average guy with a big waist and an even bigger heart" seeking the full-figured lady of his dreams. On the one hand, the press release uses all the right words, like "inspirational" and "confident" and "embracing and loving yourself no matter your shape or size." On the other, it describes the leading man as a "husky hunk" and makes comments about what happens as the competition "narrows" (yuk, yuk). Fox's reality guru says this show will send all the right messages about finding love at any size, but from the network that brought us Temptation Island and Married by America, I'm just not so sure.
Then, on ABC, there's this show called Shark Tank, an adaptation of a UK show called Dragon's Den in which struggling entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a room full of multimillionaire tycoons in the hopes of getting a bailout. Described as focusing on "the drama of pitch meetings," the show is meant to resonate with viewers given the current economy ("People are looking to be entrepreneurs to get ahead, yet there's no way anybody can go into a bank right now and get a loan. For these entrepreneurs, these sharks are their last stop"). But do we want to watch rich people doling out money to people who aren't us right now? Once again, I'm not sold.

Am I being too harsh? Or do both of these shows sound like trainwrecks to you, too? Tell me in the comments!

Would You Watch a Real-Life Gossip Girl?

Fascinated by the lives of rich and ritzy Upper East Siders like Serena and Blair on Gossip Girl? Why not watch the real thing? Bravo is developing a documentary series focusing on private school kids in New York City that's being described as a real-life version of the CW show. The show reportedly won't feature any specific school but will be a look at the lifestyle in general, and it seems to fit in Bravo's rich-people-show stable alongside Millionaire Matchmaker and the Real Housewives shows. Would you check it out?

Meet the New Cast of Dancing With the Stars

ABC announced the new cast of Dancing with the Stars on Sunday, and this just might be the craziest group of contestants yet. It's a group pretty heavy on musicians: Jewel (who's doing her second reality show with her husband, former rodeo star Ty Murray), Belinda Carlisle, Lil Kim, and Chuck Wicks. Among the other contestants: Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, comedian David Alan Grier, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Intrigued?
