Clive Owen Channeling Philip Marlowe

Apparently, BuzzSugar readers love Clive Owen. He's neck and neck with Leonardo DiCaprio for the Hottest Actor Oscar, and he filled the Humphrey Bogart role in our Casablanca recast.

Apparently, we're not the only ones to draw a comparison between Bogie and the British hottie. Zap2It is reporting that Owen has been tapped by Universal to star in a new film franchise as Philip Marlowe, the detective in Raymond Chandler's novels. (Bogart played the Marlowe character in the film version of Chandler's The Big Sleep. For details,

According to the article:

Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment have acquired rights to Chandler's novels, including "The Big Sleep" and "Farewell My Lovely." Nobody has yet decided which book they want to adapt, much less who will be doing the adaptation, but Owen is attached as both star and executive producer.

I've always wondered why Owen hasn't become a much bigger star, so perhaps this franchise could be his ticket to blockbuster status. What do you guys think about the idea of Detective Clive?

Should the Army Ban French Manicures, Ponytails, and Earrings?

Recently, Sergeant Major of the Army Raymond Chandler posted a message on Facebook saying that he and his staff will be changing Army grooming standards over the next few months and asking Internet denizens to "give me your thoughts on earrings for females in ACUs [Army combat uniforms], or if French-tipped fingernails should be allowed." Since then, there's also been discussion about making ponytails verboten, and Chandler told the Army Times, "I would assume there are going to be some changes. Exactly what they are it’s too early to tell.”

In recent years, the Army has loosened restrictions on everything from piercings to visible tattoos (you can now have them on your hands and neck), and Chandler also suggested that he would consider changing those standards. However, given the fact that men in the Army are allowed mustaches and anyone can have knuckle tattoos, it seems a bit odd to deny women nice-looking hands and comfortable hair. What do you say? Should the US Army be taking steps like these to control its soldiers looks?

TV stars Joshua Jackson and Melissa McCarthy were up and at 'em this morning to present the nominees for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards - one of which went to McCarthy herself for her work on Mike and Molly. There aren't too many shockers on this year's list; new shows Game of Thrones, The Killing, and Boardwalk Empire all got some love, Modern Family continues to dominate (now with a nomination for Ed O'Neill), and Friday Night Lights finally got that much-deserved nod for outstanding drama series. There are also some big names you may not have expected to see on this list, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, and Justin Timberlake all picked up nominations for guest appearances.
