Movie Preview: Love Songs

Like Audrey Tautou's movie Priceless, I'm completely smitten by the poster and trailer for Love Songs, a movie from French filmmaker Christophe Honore. Everything in the preview screams "French": a love triangle, pretty singing, heartbreak, and the glittering streets of Paris as the backdrop.

The musical, opening in limited release in America on March 21, follows a man and a woman who invite another woman into their relationship to spice things up. As the IFC site for Love Songs explains, the heart of the story comes when tragedy strikes and "these young Parisians are forced to deal with the fragility of life and love."

Movie Preview: Priceless Starring Audrey Tautou

Don't you just love this poster, with that Tiffany blue background and the gorgeous main star, Audrey Tautou, front and center? I don't often see movie posters that I would love to have in my home, but this is one I would put up in a heartbeat.

Drawn in by the elegant poster and Tautou's sweet image, I had to watch the trailer for Priceless, a French film coming to America in limited release on March 28. Tautou plays Irene, a "golddigger" who lives in luxury by taking up with rich older men. Yet she soon finds herself engaged in a competition with a bartender-turned-gigolo for wealthy older women. What happens, then, when the golddigger and the gigolo fall in love?

The goofball silliness of the story combined with the brightly colored French Riviera and, of course, the irresistible Tautou makes this a movie I definitely plan to catch in a few weeks.

"It's generally a good idea to wait until the three-month scan before telling people you're going to have a baby, just to make sure everything is OK. I'm terrible at keeping secrets, so after only a few weeks I told my boss at work that I was going to be a dad and his reaction was so priceless, I instantly knew I had to capture the reactions of my close friends and family," Tom said. "We hadn't been trying for a baby and I was 29, which for London is fairly young to have a child, so I knew I'd get some good reactions." And thus "I'm Going to Be a Dad" was born.

There's a problem with a lot of productivity advice out there, and it's this - your "rules" for personal productivity are often going to be different than mine. Sure, sometimes there's overlap. Sure, you can always learn from others.

But if you want to see a dramatic increase in your productivity, spend less time reading and memorizing other people's rules, and more time figuring out what your own rules are. You'll be more productive and in a way that works with who you are.

So I'm sharing a few of my personal productivity rules. Maybe some of them will work for you or inspire you to think of your own.

1. Small Daily Movements Become Big Accomplishments

I tend to think that I must have big blocks of time in order to get any forward movement. So I hesitate and procrastinate, waiting for that "open time" when I can really push and get a lot done on whatever the current project is.

Turns out, that's a waste of time. Small daily movements add up. It's just that the movements or steps themselves are so small, I think they don't count. They do.

I have to constantly remind myself that I don't need a whole day or a whole week to devote to some project. I just need to take the 10 or 20 minutes I have here and there and use them. I need to achieve a little bit of forward movement every day. That adds up, and it builds momentum, and pretty soon there's been quite a lot accomplished.

If lots of your recent buys are rated “not worth it,” it’s time to reevaluate your spending patterns. The first step is to avoid letting one bad spending choice drag you into a downward spiral. If you suspect you’re currently in such a phase, you can use this tool to spiral back up. If your purchases are all rated “worth it,” but you know you’re shopping too much, take a close look at your last month of spending and ask yourself whether you’re truly happy with everything you bought, or if that same amount of money could have been applied to a different financial goal, whether it's bulking up your emergency fund or beginning to invest.
