Gap Shows Fall 2011; Sneak Peek at the Collection Here!

At their Fall 2011 preview yesterday in New York, Gap showed a polished and sleek collection of separates designed for easy sophistication. There were plenty of pants, from leather leggings to bootcut trousers and skinny cords. Leather pieces - including a nude leather jacket and black shift dress - showed a super chic direction and suggested that Gap might be a destination for more than denim and tees next Fall. Accessories were a bit more sleek as well, from leather crossbody bags to pointy-toe heels with a little petal on the back, showing a grown-up Gap girl who can easily dress up her denim. Tron: Legacy Preview From the Community

If you missed last week's Tron Night, you can rest easy until the film opens on Dec. 17, knowing that it will be awesome. Take it from community member (and Sugar's own), zzleigh, who got to sit in on the 20 minute IMAX 3D preview last week. She says:

Overall, the 23-minute (or so) preview of the film featured several exhilarating (though mostly previously-released footage from trailers, no spoilers) scenes from the film. It began in 2D in the real world (though Kosinski assured that the film, even in its 2D format, is meant to be viewed with 3D glasses) and once Sam Flynn is transported to the Grid, it goes to 3D. In IMAX, the effects are immersive and breathtaking.

Apple's New OS: Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard, Apple's new operating system, shows us that computing can be easy, not to mention fun! One new feature of Snow Leopard is Doc Exposé. Similar to the Exposé you know and love, Doc Exposé lets you single out documents or files that are open in specific applications.

Snow Leopard also boasts an upgraded Safari 4, which includes the new Top Sites feature that allows you to see a window of your favorite websites, as well as full-screen, full-color browsing history. It also features Stacks, which lets you organize faster and easier, and a sleek new Quicktime Player that lets you scrub through videos and movies right inside Quicktime. One last cool feature that stood out to me, though, was that after you install Snow Leopard, you'll actually get 6 GB of memory space back to fill with photos, movies, documents, whatever you want! It doesn't get any better than that.

2009 Tribeca Film Festival Spotlight: Moon

I've been perusing the long list of interesting-looking movies scheduled for this year's Tribeca Film Festival, which starts this week. Some of them, like Moon, are already earning buzz, and I'm anxious to find out what festivalgoers think once they've screened.

Starring Sam Rockwell, Moon is the directorial debut of David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones. The movie has already built some momentum from this year's Sundance Film Festival and now there's a trailer for it. And the trailer is creepy.

The movie takes place in the not-so-distant future and follows astronaut Sam Bell (Rockwell) who is completing a three-year stint on the moon where his only company has been a computer (voiced by Kevin Spacey) named GERTY. From the looks of the trailer, all that time alone on the moon starts to seriously affect Sam's emotional state. Most of the reviews so far say that this is a pretty terrific entry to the sci-fi/horror genre that's buoyed by a great performance from Rockwell.

TV Tonight: "Friday Night Lights"

I thought "Friday Night Lights" hit a high point with all the racial tension and family drama in last week's episode, so I'm even more geared up than usual for tonight. The preview for "Black Eyes and Broken Hearts" contains a few tantalizing moments: Julie Taylor appears to be in jail (what's happened to our girl?), Coach pits Guidance Counselor Tami against Wife Tami, and Riggins is told he needs to lead - presumably in the aftermath of last week's walkout.

Sienna Miller Ruffling Feathers With Factory Girl

Sienna Miller's latest movie, Factory Girl, has ignited the anger of one of her favorite musicians, Bob Dylan. Miller plays Edie Sedgwick, the muse of Andy Warhol (Guy Pearce), in the film about Sedgwick's life before she committed suicide. But according to the UK's Guardian,

Dylan apparently believes that the film's depiction of his alleged affair with Sedgwick suggests it was their subsequent break-up that led to her death from a barbiturates overdose in 1971 at the age of 28.

Dylan's lawyer, Orin Snyder, wrote to the film's producers: 'Even though Mr Dylan's name is not used, the portrayal remains... defamatory.'

Dylan tried to halt the release of the film, which was rushed out in the US last week in time to qualify for consideration for the Oscars.

Miller calls herself Dylan's "biggest fan" and is "mortified" by his reaction, claiming that the movie places the blame more squarely on Warhol than anyone else.

Yikes! Well, despite Dylan's efforts, the movie came out in select cities on December 29, but a nationwide release date has yet to be set, fueling rumors that the film did not do well with test audiences. Check out the trailer below and tell me what you think: Will you see Factory Girl?

FX Dishes Out a Preview for Dirt

I'm very curious to watch the new Courteney Cox show, "Dirt," which debuts Jan. 2 on FX. Cox steps out of her comedy comfort zone to play Lucy Spiller, a tabloid editor who makes her living digging into the lives of celebs. If you're curious too, you can now watch the "Dirt" trailer online. The show actually looks grittier than I expected, but I guess I should have known since it's from the network that brought us the wonderfully indulgent "Nip/Tuck."

Movie Preview: Venus

On December 20th, Venus opens, starring the ever-great Peter O'Toole. It looks to be a heartwarming tale of friendship prevailing over a wide generation gap, and it's already getting attention from award committees. The concept of a relationship blooming between an older man and a young woman can easily go in a pretty creepy direction, but from this trailer, the relationship instead seems tender, funny and sweet. The movie will probably make me cry, in a good way, and maybe teach me a few things about art at the same time.

Movie Preview: Shrek the Third

The Moviefone website describes the newest Shrek movie, coming out May 18, like this:

Shrek, Donkey, Puss In Boots and Fiona are back for another fun-and-pun-filled adventure, and this time they're joined by Captain Hook, Sir Lancelot and ... Justin Timberlake as King Arthur?! Long story short: Get ready for some 'Sexyback,' medieval-style.

I'm sorry, but it just seems wrong to merge an animated children's character with the words "Sexyback" and "medieval-style." Regardless, the Shrek the Third trailer was just released today, so check it out.

YumSugar Preview: Fresh Cookies Any Time

Since I never know when a cookie attack is going to happen, I like to keep a batch ready in the freezer at all times. They're perfect for unexpected guests, quick dessert or anytime you want a little treat.

Line a baking sheet (or any firm tray that will fit in your freezer) with parchment or wax paper. Portion out the dough like you would if you were baking (except, don't worry about the spacing). Stick the sheet into the freezer for a few hours or until the dough is mostly frozen (they should be firm and not sticky/gooey).

Once frozen, you'll be able to pick them up and put them into an airtight container. I prefer a ziploc freezer bag, it takes up less space and I can write the cookie type, oven temp and time needed right onto the bag. The dough should keep for three months, but good luck making them last that long!

For best results you should let the dough thaw before cooking (only take out what you're going to use). Tossing them directly into the oven will result in undercooked middles (which are sometimes wonderfully tasty). If I'm going to put them in frozen, I usually lower the temp a bit and keep them in longer. However, you'll have to pay attention because the edges will crisp quicker than the frozen middle can cook. The perfect time/temperature ratio will depend on your cookie recipe.

Note: This method works best for drop cookies. Drop cookies are cookies that are made by forming balls of dough and dropping them on to the pan (such as chocolate chip, oatmeal, etc.).
