Nip/Tuck Creator's Latest Project Stalls Out

It's been nearly a year since we heard the first buzz about Nip/Tuck co-creator Ryan Murphy's latest project. It was supposed to be a drama for FX about a man who realizes he's a transsexual, with Brad Pitt among its producers.

FX's president reportedly bought the pitch for the show immediately upon hearing it, and Murphy had plans for at least four seasons, with the first focusing on his main character's realization, the second on his transition to being a woman, and so forth. The cast was strong - Joseph Fiennes in the lead role, Carrie-Ann Moss as his wife - and the show seemed like just the sort of edgy fare FX has become known for.

But somehow, the show - which was named Pretty/Handsome (Murphy sure does like his slashes in titles, no?) - has stalled. Though the pilot was produced, FX passed on the show this Spring, and nobody else seems to want it.

Without seeing the whole pilot, it's impossible to know why exactly the show didn't make it. But it's interesting to think about - especially after watching some preview clips (which you can check out after the jump). I would love to see a show really challenge our perceptions of gender. Could this have been the one to do it? Or did it just not hit the mark?

SavvySugar: Can you tell me about your career path and how your business has grown throughout the years?

April Beyer: I started out in the high-end matchmaking industry nearly 14 years ago. I had worked with a matchmaking company and was there for about six or seven years. I was responsible for many marriages there. In 2003, I decided to venture out on my own and start a relationship coaching and consulting business. Now, I still have my matchmaking company. I work with a handful of highly successful marriage-minded men. I am also a coach and a writer.

Now my passion is to help women better understand themselves first so then they can naturally attract the man of their dreams. I am a little bit more of a holistic dating and relationship coach, but I think of myself more as is a communication and authenticity coach. For me, it's not about teaching people dating skills, it is teaching them relationship skills.

Group Therapy: I Had Sex Too Soon

So Friday night I went on a second date with this very good-looking guy. We have tons in common and chemistry is crystal clear. However, because this guy is so handsome, putting two and two together and you are bounds to get a ladies' man. For that reason, my intention was to have my guard high up. Well things got pretty intense at the end of our second date and I ended up having sex with him even after I told him it was too soon. We talked about it and sure enough the deed was done. But now I still want to have him around. Not for a relationship just yet, but I'm really hoping to not be "tooted and booted." Any suggestions as to what I should do? Or is it all done with?

10 Ways We Could Use Some Tough Love

On his VH1 show Tough Love Miami, Steve takes a no-nonsense approach when it comes to helping women find true love. He sets up a "dating boot camp," designed to break down the women's barriers about love. Steve sets the girls up on dates to see where they need real help and find them the man they've been looking for. Steve's brand of tough love may seem a little brutal, but each week that I'm glued to the screen, I find that the girls are experiencing real progress. Here are 10 solid pieces of tough love from the man behind Tough Love Miami, Steve Ward.

"When it comes to letting a guy know you're interested, it's not just what you say, but how you say it. Or show it." Body language and nonverbal communication are just as important as what comes out of your mouth. It's important to be conscious of the vibe you're putting out from the way you carry yourself.
"There's flirting. And then there's moving way too fast." There's no reason to come out guns blazing if you have any sort of attraction for a man. Take things slow. Try your best to have an objective eye. Let things happen naturally, and don't lead someone on just for the hell of it.
"For many women, texting is a habit that can not only get out of control, it can turn a man off in no time." Steve dedicates a whole episode of Tough Love Miami to "Dating in the Digital Age." Steve hands all the girls cellphones and tells them they can communicate with their dates before they meet the following day. The experiment only proves that these women rely way too much on texting. Steve says if a man doesn't respond to a text, it's not an excuse to text him a million times before he responds. Have some self control!
"Let me make my point: men hate this sh*t, OK? When you're communicating with a man over a text message, or email, or other any type of ecommunication, use words and grammar." Steve says drop the acronyms like LOL and LMAO. Lay off the exclamation points and stop with all the emoticons. Men are just not into it.
"It's OK to have preferences, but even your preferences have to be realistic." Every single lady has got her list of deal breakers. Steve urges the women in boot camp to recognize that no one is perfect and to let go of these random preconceived notions about what her ideal match looks like. Love comes where you least expect it, but you've got to be open to the possibilities for that to happen.

Big congrats to Bradley Cooper, People's Sexiest Man Alive 2011! Last year's winner, Ryan Reynolds, is passing on the crown to yet another handsome, lovable, funny guy. In his typically humble manner, Bradley played it cool about his own good looks saying, "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this [title]. I think I'm a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying."

Bradley, who was recently rumored to be dating Jennifer Lopez but swears he's currently single, has had a pretty great 2011 career-wise. Not only was The Hangover Part II a huge hit, but he cemented his leading-man status with the success of Limitless. Not only is he sexy, but he's smart, too - the Georgetown grad is fluent in French. Mindy Kaling Hangs With Nicole and Jon, Shares Her "Tongue in Cheek" Relationship Advice

Mindy Kaling hosted friends and costars at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA last night for a party to celebrate her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, thrown by Glamour magazine's editor in chief Cindi Leive. She was joined by The Office's B.J. Novak and Jenna Fischer, who were out showing support along with Nicole Richie, Busy Philipps, and Anna Faris. Handsome Men's club members Jon Hamm and Jimmy Kimmel also stopped by the celebration to toast Mindy, who looked lovely in a black and silver Hervé Leger cocktail dress. Mindy took a few minutes to chat with us about her memoir, dating, and how the men in her life have reacted to her advice. She said:

Mindy on giving relationship advice: "I think I'm always nervous, because I'm just a comedian and I've had like three boyfriends in my life. So when I dispense advice about relationships it's always like mostly tongue and cheek. I just think it's irresponsible [to give advice], but I love the idea of being like Ann Landers to somebody. But for me it's like more about the comedy essays and memoir."
Mindy on straying from the original title of the book, Contents of My Purse: "The Contents of My Purse is very blog centraled, and more about shopping, which is one of my great passions obviously. After I saw how much memoir it was and how many personal essays and comedy essays [were there], it didn't seem apt. Although, maybe i do have a book in me called Contents of My Purse somewhere."
Mindy's pick for outstanding men: "Clive Owen is a pretty awesome guy, Sacha Baron Cohen is pretty amazing, who else do I love, and Steve Jobs. Those are pretty universally loved men."
Mindy on great advice from her mom: "My mom has always said you have to be your own best friend. Which really means like no matter what, you have to be your own person giving you the tough advice when nobody else does."
Mindy on omitting the chapter about B.J. Novak: "It's very hard because I have a great working friendship and professional relationship with B.J. . . . and I would never want to jeopardize that. . . So maybe one day, maybe when he dies [kidding.]"
Mindy on how the men in her life have reacted to the book: "My advice is so general, if you really look at it, it's like, 'Offer to help doing the dishes,' and 'Own a pair of dark jeans.' Pretty low hanging fruit - so if you can't accomplish those things you're probably not someone I know."

90210 "Let the Games Begin": Most Scandalous Moments

It's a fun, silly episode that's packed with plenty of bikini shots, the return of a major character, and one particularly salacious commercial starring Liam. Let's break it all down when you keep reading.

Pilot Scoop: The Playboy Club

With Mad Men off the air for now, you can get your '60s fix with tonight's premiere of new NBC drama The Playboy Club, which was supposedly inspired by Lane Pryce's affair with a Playboy bunny on Mad Men. The series takes us to Chicago in 1963, where a group of women are making their keep by strutting around a nightclub in lingerie.

What it's about: Amber Heard plays Maureen, the new bunny on the block who is still a bit green but is earning her weight in tips as she dreams to sing on stage. Her initiation into a life of scandal comes early when she accidentally kills a creep who's trying to grope her. She gets some help from Nick, a handsome lawyer (Eddie Cibrian) with some shady mob connections and charm to spare.

Where it works: As a person who's pretty unfamiliar with the backstory of Hugh Hefner and the Playboy mansion, the '60s-set series kept my attention because of the glitz and glamour. The pilot introduces us to a wealth of characters (David Krumholtz shines as the club's current man in charge) and sets up plenty of fodder for where the show could go.

Where it doesn't: While the bunnies all look hot, none of them spark a huge amount of intrigue. Maureen's a bit too blah while the rest come off as caricatures. Cibrian's got the right look, but he's trying so hard to be Don Draper that it's distracting. What's worse is that Nick comes off as bland and uninteresting instead of dashing and mysterious.

You might like this show if: You can't get enough of Mad Men's 1960s nostalgia.

When it's on: Mondays at 10 p.m.

Let's Dish: What Did You Think of Last Night's Top Chefs?

Bravo had a big night with Top Chef last evening. The reunion show of All-Stars was packed with fun videos, hysterical moments, and even a showdown with Tom and Elia! Then, afterward was the season premiere of the revamped Masters, which the majority of you were planning on watching.

It was pretty exciting: the cheftestants were surprised with Restaurant Wars in the first episode! The quickfire reminded me of Chopped, but I really enjoyed the elimination. I also loved getting to know these chefs - especially the handsome George Mendes who was just named Best New Chef by Food & Wine.
