Flashback: 1947 Guide to Popularity

In 1947, achieving social acceptance was top priority. But if popularity involved stepping into Pleasantville and conforming to the robotic freakshow below, then I'd rather hang out with that "weirdo" who spends her time in parked cars with boys night after night. At least that girl gets to have her fun and keep Mom's brownies to herself too. On the flip side, Little Miss Popularity has to bring her date home and "repay" him by serving up some dessert. Mmm-hmm. With a little "whipped cream" on top perhaps? Face it: Carolyn's a closet freak. As the narrator says, everyone likes her because she "seems as interested in girls as in boys." Oh, and she also keeps a nifty desk calendar.

What's Buzzworthy: Your Favorite Teen-Centric TV

In honor of our first week without "The OC," I devoted the latest Buzzworthy challenge to teen-centric TV shows. After all, "The OC" is just the latest in a long line of addictive teen dramas, which - by their very nature - can't last forever. So instead, I asked you guys to remember some of your favorite teen TV series - be they comedies or dramas - throughout time.

If Buzzworthy bookmarks were a popularity contest, the clear winner this time would be "My So-Called Life." Not only is this one of my favorite TV shows of all time (I kinda get chills just looking at the packaging) but it was also bookmarked by three - count 'em three - BuzzSugar readers, including Cupcake17, Missyosigirl, and WhiplashGirlchild. When you're craving a salty, crunchy snack, there are many to choose from - but they're not always healthy. Here's how to make your favorite snacks that much better for you with just a few tweaks.

Popcorn: It's one of the lower-calorie snacks to choose from already, but watch out for toppings - that's where you can get carried away with fat and calories if you're not careful (just look at movie theater popcorn). Air-popped popcorn has the fewest calories - 31 calories per cup - but even using a little bit of oil will only add about 14 calories. Keep calories low by skipping the butter and salt, not to mention the prepackaged popcorn. Instead, use healthier popcorn toppings like extra virgin coconut oil, Indian spices, or "cheesy" nutritional yeast. Read more healthy popcorn topping ideas here.

Nuts: A handful of nuts can keep you satisfied and energized far longer than a carb-filled snack, and not only that, the unsaturated fats in them do you good. But if you want to get the most benefit out of the healthy fats of certain nuts (like walnuts), don't roast them, since their antioxidants may be damaged when baked at a high temperature, as most commercial nuts are. If you don't like the taste of raw nuts, roast your own at 165° Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes.

Sex and the City Perfume Fakes Flood the Market

Sex and the City isn't just popular with video bootleggers: according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's list of top seizures, it's also the most popular counterfeit perfume, WWD reports. Out of 138 commercial perfume shipments Customs intercepted for counterfeit scents, 52 contained fake SATC fragrances. And in total, the agency seized more than a million bogus bottles of the stuff last year.

Fake perfumes aren't just a problem for the company that makes them legally, either. "In addition to the economic harm," Customs said in its statement, "counterfeit perfumes are also often contaminated with unknown chemicals that can cause serious injury." There's no regulation on this stuff, and tests have found some truly heinous ingredients, from urine to known carcinogens. So when it comes to perfume, you're almost always better off biting the bullet and paying full price at the department store. Carrie wouldn't tolerate a knockoff, and neither should you.

How to Throw a The Artist-Themed Oscar Viewing Party

The Oscars air on Sunday, Feb 26, and any movie lover already has the date penciled in. In case your plans are even grander than simply watching the show and you want to throw a viewing party for friends, then why not pick a theme based around one of the best picture nominees? I'm suggesting The Artist as inspiration, the delightful silent film that's been creating a deafening award season buzz. Here's how to pull it off.

How to decorate: All your decorations should be black and white, with art deco accents. Play The Artist movie soundtrack or big band music while guests are arriving. And if you know anyone who owns a Jack Russell Terrier, borrow him and pretend he's Uggie.
How to dress: In glam 1920s Old Hollywood garb. Think tuxes for men, and flapper dresses or diaphanous gowns and long pearls for women.
What to serve: Lots of champagne, of course, along with Manhattans and Sidecars, cocktails popular in the '20s.
How to act: Ask everyone to be as silent as possible, but expressive with their face and hands. It sounds crazy, but at least you won't have to shush anyone when the show starts.

Lonny Magazine's Big Announcement

Once it became clear that the January/February issue of Lonny magazine wasn't going to publish, fans of the online magazine dreaded the worst. In the midst of rumored reports that the publication might be folding, Lonny editors blogged about an upcoming announcement and placated readers with a teaser for the upcoming March/April issue. Yesterday, Editor-in-Chief Michelle Adams shared that Lonny magazine will begin publishing monthly beginning with the May issue. The long-anticipated March/April issue will be on schedule to go live on March 10.

As a pioneer in the realm of online shelter publications, it seems fitting that Lonny would be the first to switch to a monthly publishing schedule, but as Adams mentions in her announcement, Lonny surely won't be the last. "We admire and embrace our competitors, as they have brought excitement and legitimacy to the industry," says Adams. And surely they have. In the past year alone, we've watched our favorite budding and newly launched online magazines become increasingly popular - an exciting accomplishment for cyber journalism and design enthusiasts, indeed.
