Will Lohan's Behavior Hurt Her Career?

Despite Lindsay Lohan's DUI/coke bust and trip to rehab, she's still employed - at least for now. Shirley MacLaine and Rob Hickman, the producers of Poor Things, told People they aren't going to kick her off the project. In a joint statement, they said:

"We are trying to rearrange the shooting schedule to facilitate her working at the end of the shoot to coincide with the completion of her rehabilitation. We wish her love and the blending of mind, body and spirit."

But Lohan's grace period appears to be running out, according to several sources in a New York Times story. Some studios and producers are reportedly removing Lohan from their casting lists, staying away from the actress until she proves she's reliable, responsible and capable of working - not to mention sober.

I can't say I'm surprised. If I were a director, I don't think I'd take a chance on Lohan right now. Besides the risk of her being physically unable to work, some of you are saying you won't see a movie with her in it. And she's one of the few stars whose offscreen behavior affects how I see her work.

That's a shame, because I think Lohan has talent. Her performance was one of the bright spots in Georgia Rule, and you'll never catch me saying a bad word about Mean Girls. But she's already been replaced in two movies recently, once by Sienna Miller and again by Bryce Dallas Howard, though it's not clear if either of those situations had anything to do with her wild behavior. Whatever the reason, though, I do wish she'd stay out of the spotlight for a while and get her life together so she - and we - can stop being distracted by her antics.

Lose the negativity - No one wants to meet up with a Debbie Downer, so if your online dating profile is riddled with sarcasm, negativity, and pessimism, you can be sure that you won't be getting many date requests any time soon. This doesn't mean you have to be fake, just keep the "I'm too cool for school" attitude to a minimum.

No Nature's Miracle? Try This All-Natural Method Instead

I can't rave enough about the wonders of Nature's Miracle when potty training or cleaning pup's playthings. However, truthfully, I haven't stocked a bottle since my pet was a wee babe since he's got the peeing thing down pat. However, many dogs can have a repeat problem with stuff coming out the other end.

Yesterday morning, my poor pooch threw up on his bed and then hid in my bedroom, looking as embarrassed as this doxie. Since I didn't want to deal with laundry right before rushing to work, but also didn't want to let the stain (and smell) set in, I went into my kitchen and grabbed two staples.

Instead of tap water, I scrubbed the area with a small amount of club soda and let it dry while taking a shower. When I got out, I sprinkled the spot with baking soda and headed to work, crating my pup. Immune boosters in a pill: Although you've heard of the usual immune boosters like vegetables and fruits, there are a couple of holistic cures you might want to try. There's New Chapter's LifeShield Immunity ($20), which is a supplement made out of a combination of mycelium, fruiting bodies, spores, and extracellular compounds from tonic mushrooms.
Take ginseng with your vaccine: When you get a flu vaccine, try taking some ginseng with it so you'll bounce back from the effects of the vaccine. Trick yourself psychologically: Don't discount old wives' remedies! For example, a cure for cough that works for me is rubbing vapor rub over my feet and wearing socks at night. Avoiding the regular cleanings and checkups left me facing a hefty bill later on when I needed a bunch of costly fillings. I was lucky that I didn’t need root canals or replacement teeth. Now I have a dental plan that covers free checkups twice a year, but even if you don’t, get to the dentist and doctor for health checks. It’s a lot better to pay a co-pay now than pay for major surgery later on. Bikinis and Snow Equal a Recipe For Disaster on The Bachelor

It was snowing in sunny San Francisco last night on The Bachelor. Ben and his gaggle of girls were in his city to enjoy the sights, drink too much wine, and start some drama. But before all that could go down, there was downhill skiing. The producers of the show brought in some snow to one of the city's hills, and apparently persuaded the girls to trade their sundresses for bikinis and ski boots. Next thing you know, southern girls with no experience on the slopes were tumbling down at high speeds with barely any clothing. Poor Kacie even had a wardrobe malfunction. Ruth Reichl: "American Food Is the Best in the World Right Now"

This weekend, food artisans from around the country are being honored in the second annual Good Food Awards, which celebrate American food producers who enhance the country's agricultural landscape and help to build community. While the awards are relatively new to the gastronomic landscape, they're already backed by some of the country's biggest food influencers, such as Whole Foods, and seminal culinary figures, like Ruth Reichl.
Ruth is currently the editorial adviser at Gilt Taste, another cosponsor of this weekend's Good Food Awards. The author, former New York Times food critic, and final Gourmet editor sat down with me over dinner at Mission Chinese Food to talk more about good food and future projects.

YumSugar: Tell me about the partnership between Gilt Taste and the Good Food Awards. How did it come about?
Ruth Reichl: I've known Sarah [Weiner, the director] for a long time, and we've been talking about this for a long time. When I went to Gilt Taste, it just seemed like a seamless, natural partnership, finding and supporting food artisans in America.

YS: You're the keynote speaker at this year's Good Food Awards. What kind of a legacy do these awards create?
RR: It's hard for younger people to understand how bad things were in America, a time when all food was essentially industrial. There were no farmers markets. I have an interview with Wolfgang Puck that I did in 1982 where he goes, "Six years ago, there was no decent food in America." Now, there's this explosion of farmers markets, and while so much of the world is abandoning their food heritage, Americans are reclaiming theirs before it gets lost . . . We have these two completely parallel, simultaneous, and opposite tracks: on the one hand, people with money who eat organic, sustainable, handmade food. But if you're a poor person, you're stuck eating stuff that's cheaper than food and that will kill you. Food safety in this country becomes a worse and worse issue; we import more and more food; 80 percent of the antibiotics in this country go to perfectly healthy animals. We have a real crisis on the one hand - and on the other hand, we have, for the first time, an awareness of it. Which is quite stunning.

I really do think American food is the best in the world right now, because of the people making the kind of food that goes to the Good Food Awards. We have to nurture it, and make sure that it doesn't just stay with us in this little enclave.

YS: There's movement toward eating a plant-based diet. What do you think of that?

Caroline and Max manage to plan for their future while hustling for their present - and survive on a shoestring with admirable grace.
