The New Pornographers - with Neko! - Sing Sweetly for AOL

If you're a fan of The New Pornographers, you know that catching Neko Case on tour with the band isn't always the easiest feat. (When both she and Dan Bejar appeared with the band in San Francisco in September, I nearly fell over.) For those of you who still haven't had that pleasure, AOL's Interface concert series has delivered the next best thing: live performances of four songs from Challengers with Neko performing, all available for download as mp3s or videos. Yay!

There's also an interview with AC Newman, John Collins, and Kathryn Calder talking about things like getting one of their songs into Rock Band, which really is pretty hilarious.

All four of the performances are worth watching, but for pure "hey, hey, the gang's almost all here!" pleasure, you've got to check out "My Rights Versus Yours." You can watch the video if you just read more.

No HBO? You Can Still Watch In Treatment - For Free

HBO's intriguing - but not for the commitment-phobic - nightly series, In Treatment, isn't exactly an overnight sensation. The show's premiere last week got the lowest numbers for an HBO series premiere ever. But maybe it's not quite time to panic yet, considering all the other ways HBO is making In Treatment available to HBO subscribers and non-subscribers alike.

Personally, I've been TiVoing all the episodes and hoping to settle in for a long marathon sometime down the line. But I don't have to do that, at least for the first three weeks: HBO has made the first 15 episodes available as a podcast from the iTunes store. Those same 15 episodes are also streaming online for free. In both of those cases, the full week's worth of episodes becomes available every Monday, so you don't even have to check back several times to get them all.

There are also two-minute recaps of each episode available on the show's main site, and if you have HBO but don't want to tune in each night, they're all also up through HBO On Demand.

Dr. House Is In - On Your iPod

My favorite part about watching "House" is hearing Hugh Laurie deliver the cranky doctor's deadpan, sarcastic, and sometimes downright mean lines. So I was thrilled to discover two of Fox's "House" podcasts that are nothing but some of Dr. House's snappiest jabs, played back to back to back.

This clip is about a minute long and includes comebacks such as "I think your tie is ugly" and the ironically hilarious "Relax. I've got a great bedside manner." The more recent podcast, which you can hear here, has four minutes of House grousing "I can be a jerk to people I haven't slept with" and telling a colleague who questions his diagnosis: "It's a new game. If I'm wrong, she wins a stuffed bear."

You can stream them directly from the Foxcast Web site or put them on your MP3 player for later, in case hearing House say "Every minute that we refuse to love each other, another puppy cries another tear" is what you need to get through your workout. You can also subscribe to the podcast through the iTunes Music Store.
