Despite rumors to the contrary, Access Hollywood is reporting that Tom Cruise will not reprise his role as Maverick in a sequel to Top Gun.
Variety has the news that Hancock director Peter Berg is developing a Hercules film based on a five-issue comic book series by Steve Moore.
According to Reuters, Disney has named replacements for Ebert and Roeper: Ben Lyons from E! and Ben Mankiewicz from Turner Classic Movies. At the Movies with Ben and Ben, anyone?
According to The New York Times, TiVo will introduce a product purchasing feature in partnership with Amazon.
TNT picked up the pilot for Night and Day, a show about an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms from 24 co-creator Joel Surnow, the Hollywood Reporter writes.
Billboard states Nas' untitled album topped last week's sales chart, moving 197,000 copies. Lil Wayne's album and the Mamma Mia! soundtrack rounded out the top three.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Netflix is closing its Red Envelope Entertainment subsidiary, a film financing and acquisition firm that helped finance No End in Sight and Two Days in Paris, among others.

A Box Office War Between Mr. and Little Miss Smith

Another day, another Hancock premiere for Will Smith and Charlize Theron. The actors opened the Moscow Film Festival yesterday with smiles, though they looked a little less overly friendly than Wednesday's red carpet. While Will was running around Europe his daughter, Willow, premiered Kit Kittredge in NYC last night. Both Hancock and Kit Kittredge are opening on July 2nd and when asked about beating her dad in the box office Willow said, “I think I’ll be the biggest flashing star...Yes…I’m going to post up on daddy’s movie. Willow is the star.” Sounds like there's another Smith looking to own Independence Day weekend.

First Look: Hancock

Hancock, Peter Berg's directorial follow-up project to The Kingdom, stars Will Smith as a ragged modern-day superhero who has fallen out of the public's favor. When he hires a PR guy (Jason Bateman) to help clean up his public image, Hancock winds up falling for the man's wife (Charlize Theron).

Maria Bello on Why She Couldn't Refuse Her New Series, Prime Suspect

Maria Bello will return to TV this Fall in NBC's new cop procedural Prime Suspect. Based on the British series starring Helen Mirren, Bello plays Jane Timony, a tough-as-nails homicide detective who loves her job and refuses to apologize for it (or her personality). Bello was joined at the TCA with her costars and producers to talk about how the series will differ from the original, and why it was a role she couldn't refuse.

The pilot largely revolves around Jane taking a lot of flack from her male colleagues - to the point where one of her fellow detectives calls her a wh*re. Executive Producer Alexandra Cunningham said this kind of in-your-face sexism won't be par for the course, as "it's 2011; there's no institutionalized sexism," and from here on in we can expect the focus to shift away from that.
Costar Peter Garety commented that one aspect that makes Prime Suspect stand out among other cop shows was the fact that it's centered on a woman, saying, "Most of the cop shows I've done didn't have female detectives. I don't expect this cop show to be like any other cop show I've been on."
As for what separates the show from the UK version, Cunningham said that there will be a lot more humor and it won't harp on alcoholism the way the original did. She also added, "At the end of the day, what we have that no one else has is Maria, and she's so watchable."

Battleship Trailer: Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch Try to Sink Aliens

Battleship, the latest from director Peter Berg, may be based on the board game of the same name, but you'd never know that from this trailer. The film stars Taylor Kitsch as a young naval officer trying to win the approval of his hot girlfriend (Brooklyn Decker)'s father (Liam Neeson). To do so, he boards a battleship - and gets a lot more than he bargained for when there's an alien attack.

Alexander Skarsgard also stars as Kitsch's onscreen brother and fellow naval officer, and apparently Rihanna is in the movie as well, though we only see her for a split second. Aside from the pretty faces, there's not much to get excited about in this trailer: there's not even the requisite "You sunk my battleship!" Check it out for yourself when you
