George Clooney Celebrates Family at His Ides of March Premiere

George Clooney had the company of his Ides of March costars Evan Rachel Wood, who was decked out in head-to-toe maroon Gucci, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jeffrey Wright for last night's NYC premiere. We managed to snag a few minutes with George himself - and he's just as handsome in person! George spoke to us about the importance of filming the movie, which he directed, in the Midwest and, most importantly, in Cincinnati. He told us, "My father was an anchorman in Cincinnati, and I knew the area really well. I worked there plenty. I worked at the ladies shoe store there and sold men's suits in the area, so I knew most of the area." His father, Nick, was on hand for the afterparty at the Metropolitan Club along with George's mom, Nina. The Clooney trio mingled with other newsmen like Dan Rather and Al Roker - stay tuned for more from the red carpet later today on PopSugar TV!

George Clooney Kicks Off a Star-Studded Venice Film Festival With His Ides of March Ladies

George Clooney was the lucky man in the middle between Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei this morning at a photo call for The Ides of March during the first day of the Venice Film Festival. Evan was decked out in a suit from Dolce & Gabanna while Marisa wore a dress from Preen. They were joined by leading men Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman as well as writer Grant Heslov, though it seems Ryan Gosling has yet to get in on the fun. George made a grand entrance into the city yesterday, arriving on boat with glamorous friends like Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber. Cindy, Rande, and George were fresh off a fun weekend at the actor's Lake Como estate, which also hosted his movie buddies Marisa and Evan. George is currently all about his political thriller, but he just pulled the plug on another project - George dropped out of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is to be directed by Steven Soderbergh. We'll get another glimpse of George and his cast later today, as they're expected to be the first stars to dress up for a red carpet premiere!

The Ides of March Trailer: Gosling and Clooney Make a Run For the Presidency

Ryan Gosling is dabbling in politics for his next film, The Ides of March, and he's working for the kind of candidate I'd vote for again and again: George Clooney. Gosling plays Stephen Myers, a political strategist working for the presidential campaign of Governor Mike Morris (Clooney). When the manager of a rival campaign (Paul Giamatti) tries to woo the brilliant Myers to come work for his side, Myers explores his own integrity and questions the politics of his boss Morris.

With all the taut drama of a real political race, the movie looks incredible. Is there really a better cinematic treat than seeing Gosling and Clooney onscreen together, first as allies, then, possibly as enemies? Plus, the rest of cast is stellar, with Marisa Tomei, as a New York Times reporter, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Evan Rachel Wood.

Casting Update: Who's in For the Rock of Ages Movie

Broadway hit Rock of Ages is set to leap from stage to the screen when the movie version is released in 2012. The casting has been slowly coming together, and the lead role has finally been cast: Diego Boneta has snagged the part of Drew Boley. The relative newcomer (though 90210 and Pretty Little Liars fans will recognize him) will play the bus boy/aspiring rocker trying to get his big break in LA. Besides him, there have been other recent cast developments - check out a rundown of the actors set to star in the film, directed by Adam Shankman.

Along with Boneta, Russell Brand is also in talks for a role, which many are speculating is that of Lonny, who narrates the movie and runs The Bourbon Room, the fictional LA club where Drew works.
Tom Cruise is attached to the part of rock star Stacee Jaxx.
Julianne Hough has the female lead of Sherrie Christian, the small-town girl with big dreams.
Amy Adams recently signed on to play the journalist who is easily seduced by Jaxx, Cruise's character. UPDATE: Adams is no longer on board, and Malin Akerman has taken the role.
Paul Giamatti will play the manager of Jaxx's band.
Alec Baldwin is Dennis Dupree, owner of The Bourbon Room.
Mary J. Blige will appear as Justice Charlier, proprietor of exotic dance establishment The Venus Club.
Bryan Cranston is in talks to play the mayor of Los Angeles, and Catherine Zeta-Jones will play the his wife.

Win Win: It's a Winner

Win Win has all the necessary elements for a great indie film: a down-on-his-luck central character, a strong cast, and a quirky but heartwarming comeback story told with humor. Though it's a smaller film, Win Win appeals to a wider audience with its charm.

Paul Giamatti stars as small-town attorney/high school wrestling coach, Mike Flaherty. Stuck with a struggling legal practice (and a bad hot-water heater), Mike is cutting costs to keep his business afloat while still providing for his wife Jackie (Amy Ryan) and his young daughters. When one of Mike's elderly clients needs a guardian to provide for his care, Mike takes on the job to make some extra cash. But when the man's grandson Kyle (Alex Shaffer) unexpectedly shows up, Mike becomes way more involved in the family's life than he bargained for.

To find out why I enjoyed the film,

Kyle is a high school kid with bleached hair and back tattoos (Jackie calls him Eminem). After his mom (Melanie Lynskey) winds up in rehab, he flees home to track down the grandpa he's never met and encounters Mike instead. Mike takes Kyle in, and he starts bringing him along to his wrestling practices. The teenager proves to be star on the mat, and Mike finally eyes the opportunity to give his ragtag high school team a chance at ending their losing streak.

Writer and director Thomas McCarthy (The Visitor, The Station Agent) gives the actors great material to work with, and the entire cast rises to the occasion. Mike is, by nature, a good guy who makes some wrong choices. Kyle's mom is an addict who's only out for herself, but we also get glimpses of her genuine remorse for her lack of parenting skills. The dynamic between Mike and his two closest friends played Bobby Cannavale and Jeffrey Tambor are especially hilarious.

Win Win isn't just a film about a flailing wrestling team. It's about human connection, family, and the importance of doing the right thing. It's these larger themes that really take the film beyond being another underdog story.

The movie, which was a favorite at Sundance earlier this year, is out in wide release this Friday, and we caught up with the actors recently in NYC to chat about how they nailed their realistic portrayals of a committed husband and wife with authentic New Jersey accents. Amy also dished about her hopes for the season finale of The Office, while Paul said that, unlike Evan Rachel Wood, George Clooney has yet to anoint him with a nickname on the set of The Ides of March.

Win Win won over critics and audiences alike at the Sundance Film Festival, and it's easy to see why. The film stars Paul Giamatti as a stressed-out lawyer who's struggling financially and personally, as the coach of an unsuccessful wrestling team. But his luck begins to change when he meets Kyle (Alex Shaffer), a teenager who's new in town now that he's living with his grandfather while his mother is in rehab.

The trailer looks funny, heart-warming, and inspiring; Giamatti's character, Mike, seems to make an emotional connection with Kyle while simultaneously coaching his team to a possible victory. The cast is rounded out by Amy Ryan as Mike's wife and Melanie Lynskey as Kyle's mother, both top-notch (not to mention funny) actresses. Scott Speedman seemed to be in high spirits and was looking hot last night at the NYC premiere of his latest film, Barney's Version. He was joined by costars Paul Giamatti and the lovely Minnie Driver, who spiced up the red carpet in a strapless gold and black minidress. Paul and Scott play friends in the quirky tale of an unlucky-in-love character named Barney. The film was among the honorees showcased at the Toronto Film Festival and made Buzz's list of January's must-see movies.
