Amanda Seyfried Is A Woman of No Importance

This adaptation of Oscar Wilde's comedy A Woman of No Importance has been in the works for a while now, with Lindsay Lohan reportedly having the main role initially but then backing out of the project a year ago. Next up there were rumors that Sienna Miller was taking the lead role, and at the time of this posting, her name is still on the project's IMDB page. But today various news sources are reporting that Amanda Seyfried will in fact play the main character.

Annette Bening and Sean Bean will also star in the film in which "Seyfried will play an American who finds herself falling in love with the womanizing Lord Illingworth (Bean) in the English countryside until his mother (Bening) throws a wrench in his plans."

Surely Oscar Wilde deserves a better actress than Lindsay Lohan, but between Sienna Miller and Amanda Seyfried, do you think Seyfried is the better choice? I personally prefer Seyfried, and she won't have to fake an American accent, which is nice. I just think they should get on with production already!

Ben Barnes Goes From Prince Caspian to Dorian Gray

Right on the heels of starring in the No. 1 movie at the box office, Ben Barnes has landed another gig - and it's a doozy. The adorable Prince Caspian will play the title character in a film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Oliver Parker is "planning to make a visceral, dark horror story and says the themes of stardom are as relevant as ever."

That was my immediate thought as well, that the book's themes of vanity and the desire for everlasting youth and beauty seem to be incredibly relevant to today's world (especially in American society, though Dorian Gray does not take place in America). I had to read this novel in college and I'm so glad I did. It's a riveting - and often scary - read. If you haven't read it, this is the plot description: "Dorian Gray is a young man of impossible physical beauty whose portrait - painted by the artist Basil Hallward - becomes connected on an occult level with the workings of his soul. Drawn into a corrupt and sensual life by the dissolute Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian remains young and beautiful, while the painting ages in his stead, ultimately becoming a monstrosity."

Danny Boyle's Next Project Will Climb to 127 Hours

After the slums of Mumbai, where will Danny Boyle go next? To the mountains: the Oscar recipient for Best Director for Slumdog Millionaire has signed on for his next project, 127 Hours. The film centers on the real-life plight of climber Aron Ralston, who got pinned under a boulder during an excursion in 2003 and saved himself by cutting off his own arm with a dull knife.

The title undoubtedly refers to the length of Ralston's ordeal, which could be boring or just stressful in the hands of someone else, but Boyle is known for his ability to tackle harrowing material (see: Trainspotting and 28 Days Later). I already can't wait to see this because of Boyle and the story itself; it reminds me of Into the Wild - that is, if things had ended differently for Christopher McCandless.
