Will You Go See Nowhere Boy?

I must have been under a rock or there has been no promotion of Nowhere Boy, the untold story of John Lennon. The Beatles for me are a timeless band, and of course John Lennon, one of the most intriguing Beatles, so I will be checking out this one. Not sure if it will be nearly as extraordinary as the real man but probably an interesting glimpse into the history. Do you like The Beatles and will you be checking out this movie?

John Lennon Biopic is a Go; Now, Who Should Play John?

John Lennon's life looks like it's heading for the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter writes that a biopic called Nowhere Boy is in the works, to be directed by visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood and written by Matt Greenhalgh, who most recently wrote the Ian Curtis biopic Control.

According to the Reporter, the movie will film in Lennon's hometown of Liverpool and focus on his early years:

Greenhalgh's script details the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney.

Casting is reportedly underway now for the lead role - which of course brings about the crucial question: What actors could you see playing the young John Lennon? And how about prefame Paul? (For an irreverent take on the question, there's always Paul Rudd as John and Jack Black as Paul, as seen in Walk Hard . . . but I'm pretty sure that's not the tone this particular film is going for.)

The Vampire Diaries "Ordinary People": The Good, the Bad, and the Bloody

On this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries, we pick up where we left off - perplexed by the mysterious writings on the cave walls beneath the Lockwood property. It's imperative that Alaric, Elena, and Damon unearth the meaning behind these ancient cryptic inscriptions, for better or for worse. With Stefan locked up, Rebekah basking in her new-found high school popularity, Klaus nowhere to be found, and Katherine stirring up trouble with Mikael (we presume), it'll take more than a little luck for the motley trio to decipher the cave code.

For Elena that means making nice with Barbie Klaus in order to press her for information about her past, while Damon tests out a riskier method of research, and Alaric continues to work tirelessly to crack the "vampire Pictionary" messages the old-school way. If you're ready to dive right into the good, the bad, and the bloody, just keep reading.

The Lorax Trailer: Dr. Seuss's Cautionary Tale Comes to Life

Chances are good that you're familiar with many of the stories of Dr. Seuss, and perhaps none of his children's books are as political as The Lorax. In the midst of Seuss's signature illustrations lies a message about environmentalism and protecting our planet (as The Lorax speaks for the trees.) The first trailer for the big screen version of the story certainly follows suit with the important lesson, though a few things have been changed around. In this version, a boy named Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) wants to impress a girl (Taylor Swift), so he sets out on an adventure to find a tree, which is nowhere to be found in Ted's world. He soon learns about the Lorax (Danny DeVito) - a small fuzzy creature doing his best to protect his paradise from the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who is trying to reap the resources of the environment.

The trailer for the film is certainly angled to pull on your heartstrings; in fact, it almost seems to be geared toward the adults that remember the story rather than the young target audience. With that said, I certainly fell for this preview: not only do those candy-colored trees make me feel nostalgic, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the themes of the film are handled 40 years after the book's initial release.
