Sarah Michelle Gellar Hopes Her Husband Freddie Prinze Jr Has a Ringer Cameo

Sarah Michelle Gellar was joined by good-looking guys Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, and Kristoffer Polaha at yesterday's Comic-Con panel for their new CW series Ringer. SMG plays twins in the primetime thriller, which she didn't think would get made. Sarah said of her series, "It’s the first time in a very long time in which I was surprised by something. And I thought no one is going to put this show on television." The cast has only filmed one episode so far, but this morning she was joined by Nestor on the LA set to continue shooting additional footage for the show. It seems there could be a part for Sarah's husband, Freddie Prinze Jr, on the Ringer. Sarah's hoping they cast Freddie as a love interest, but it's unlikely he'd be opposite her characters.

Pilot Watch: "Cane"

The networks have announced their fall schedules, but which of the series will actually be worth watching? Throughout the summer, as I watch the pilots, I'll be posting my first impressions. A lot can change before a show makes it to air, so these aren't comprehensive reviews, just quick thoughts on how the shows look now. Today's installment: "Cane," a new drama from CBS.

What's it about? A Cuban-American family in Miami deals with internal struggles and external pressures that threaten their large, lucrative rum and sugar business.

Who's in it? Jimmy Smits, Hector Elizondo, Rita Moreno, Nestor Carbonell

The good: It's a CBS drama that's not another "CSI"! Jimmy Smits clearly knows how to carry a series, and when your supporting cast involves the likes of Rita Moreno, you're doing OK on the acting front. The pilot has an intriguing mix of soapy family drama, politics and mystery.

The bad: No, it's not a "CSI," but it still looks and feels like every CBS drama you've ever seen. And that's not all - as my boyfriend said, "I liked this show better when it was called The Godfather."

Will I watch? I have the same general feeling about it as I did about "Back to You": It's not likely to end up on my must-watch list, but at the same time, I wouldn't recommend against it.

The CW's new Fall schedule made room for a new series, Ringer, which I'm super excited about because of its star: Sarah Michelle Gellar. Maybe she's not a teenage vampire slayer anymore, but her new show sounds plenty compelling. Gellar has a dual role as twin sisters: recovering alcoholic Bridget and wealthy, married Siobhan. When Bridget witnesses a murder, she takes on Siobhan's identity and the glamorous life in New York City that goes with it, because Siobhan has mysteriously (and conveniently) disappeared.

Unfortunately, Siobhan has problems of her own that Bridget now has to deal with. Gellar is joined by a couple of my TV favorites - Nestor Carbonell (Richard from Lost) and Kristoffer Polaha (of Life Unexpected). The series debuts this Fall, but watch a few clips when you

Sarah Michelle Gellar and her daughter Charlotte Prinze both stayed warm in cardigans on the set of her new TV pilot, Ringer, in NYC on Thursday. SMG plays two roles, a pair of twins, on the new show, which will also star Lost alum Nestor Carbonell and Life Unexpected cutie Kristoffer Polaha. Sarah Michelle and Charlotte arrived on the East Coast last week, leaving behind their home in LA. They were home in California for SMG's husband and Charlotte's dad Freddie Prinze Jr.'s 35th birthday last week and perhaps he'll be joining his girls in the Big Apple soon.

Sarah Michelle Gellar arrived in her flip-flops but switched them out for heels as she shot scenes for Ringer yesterday in LA. SMG is on the cover of EW's upcoming issue, which hits stands this week, as she promotes the new TV series. In the magazine, she talks about why it was the right time for her return to the small screen and what it's like to work with a cast of several sexy guys, including Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonell, and Kristoffer Polaha. Sarah Michelle has been busy all Summer on the set of the new drama, in which she plays twin sisters, but she has also taken time for her family. Sarah Michelle took her daughter, Charlotte Prinze, to the beach during a recent day off and has said that being a mom was one of the biggest reasons she decided to return to TV, because of the steady schedule it provides.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Talks Ringer, Motherhood, and Her CW "Homecoming"

Sarah Michelle Gellar will make her return to the small screen for the first time since Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the CW's new drama series, Ringer. To raise the stakes, Gellar will be playing two characters - identical twins named Siobhan and Bridget - whose checkered pasts and secrets create drama for both. At the TCA press tour, Gellar was joined by her costars to talk about how she knew she was ready for TV (her daughter Charlotte had a lot to do with that), and why she'll always be proud of Buffy.

Gellar has been focusing on movies since her Buffy days, and she attributed that to feeling very "burnt out" after the show ended. As for what brought her back to TV, she said that she started watching a lot of television on DVD and realized that "all the amazing roles for women were on television."
The birth of her daughter, Charlotte, also played a role. Gellar said, "Once I had my daughter, I realized that I was done living the nomadic lifestyle. I want to be home and I want to put her to bed, and be there for her first day of school, and nothing offers that more than television. I realized I missed it. I think if I hadn't had the time away I wouldn't be able to appreciate the experience the way I am appreciating it now."
Though Gellar won't be doing the same kind of stunts we saw on Buffy, she noted that she likes holding a gun because "Buffy never got a gun."
