Did You Read Nancy Drew Books as a Kid?

Long before Veronica Mars was everyone's favorite smart, sassy girl detective, there was Nancy Drew. I remember reading some of my mom's old Nancy Drew novels as a kid, though even then I found some of the language and other aspects just a little gee-willakers outdated for my tastes.

So I think it's nice to make Nancy Drew palatable to modern girls with the new movie coming out this Friday June 15. However, I've heard some hard-core Drew fans lament the fact that the movie looks like a far cry from the original series.

What about you? Do you have a soft spot for Nancy Drew?

I know it's a little early to start thinking about summer movies, but this trailer was too adorable not to share. Nancy Drew, which comes out in June, stars Emma Roberts - niece of Julia - as the geek-fabulous supersleuth I remember from my childhood. In this version of the detective story, Nancy leaves behind River Heights for a swanky California setting, where her outdated penny loafers and obvious smarts make her stand out. When she learns about a house where a movie star mysteriously disappeared, she sets off to discover what happened. I think it looks pretty cute. What do you think?

Drew Barrymore Celebrates Charlie's Angels' Success With Her Boyfriend

Drew Barrymore linked arms with her man Will Kopelman on Friday as they walked through LAX. The actress had a small smile on her face, which makes sense because her latest project as an executive producer, the Charlie's Angels TV series, was picked up by ABC for the Fall season. The small screen version of the series stars Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, and Annie Ilonzeh, though you aren't sure the new trio can top Drew's movie series with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. Nonetheless, Drew and her business partner Nancy Juvonen have high hopes for the upcoming show. Drew herself will be back as an actress in 2012's Everybody Loves Whales with John Krasinski and Kristen Bell. Drew's also prepping for another stint as a director with a planned adaptation of the best-selling book How to Be Single.

I'm a huge crime drama junkie, so my TiVo is always filled with the murder mysteries and courtroom dramas that are aplenty on TV these days. And I'm especially happy to see so many women in the leading roles, since I grew up reading and watching smart, tough female detectives like Nancy Drew, Miss Marple, and Jessica Fletcher.

Drew Barrymore Will Tell You How to Be Single

Drew Barrymore made her directorial debut with Whip It, and after taking a few years off, she's ready to get back behind the camera. For her next project, Barrymore has chosen a romantic comedy called How to Be Single. If you're already thinking about He's Just Not That Into You, then you're on the right track. The film will follow a similar formula, showcasing an ensemble cast as they go through love and heartbreak over 10 years in New York City. To take the comparisons one step further, Barrymore's new film reunites HJNTIY scribes Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn with Barrymore and her producing partner Nancy Juvonen.

Both films are also based on books, though Liz Tuccillo's How to Be Single is a novel, not a self-help book. I thought Whip It was a solid freshman effort from Barrymore, and I don't doubt that she'll have any problem getting comfortable directing a romantic comedy, a genre that she has plenty of experience in. Holllywood has been struggling with the star-studded romantic comedy theme these days (cough, cough, Valentine's Day), but at least we know Barrymore will have the pick of the litter when lining up famous friends for her newest project.
