Buzz In: What's Your Favorite Movie Sing-along Scene?

Sigh. Movie sing-alongs. They are so good. When Top Gun was first out, if I wasn't head-over-heels for Tom Cruise already, his belting out of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" to Kelly McGillis would have sealed the deal.

And come on, who didn't want to run down to their local dive bar, take some shots and belt "Sweet Caroline" after that fantastic scene in Beautiful Girls? Also, I will never tire of the part in My Best Friend's Wedding when that gorgeous man, Rubert Everett, kicks off an all-restaurant sing-along to "Say A Little Prayer for You."

For me, sing-alongs can take a good scene and make it the best scene. They tap into that basic human desire to break into spontaneous song and dance when the mood strikes. OK, maybe that's just my basic desire.

In the spirit of wedding season, this week's Movie Night features some great wedding-themed movies to get you in a nuptially mood.

Muriel's Wedding
Check out Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths in some of their most endearing roles ever, playing friends Muriel and Rhoda. Muriel has spent her days listening to ABBA and dreaming about the perfect wedding - despite never having been on a date. Her luck changes, however, when she and Rhoda leave their quiet Australian town and meet David (Daniel Lapaine), a handsome South African looking for Australian citizenship. I cannot stress enough how delightfully refreshing Toni Collette is in this role.

Most notably, when Rupert Everett leads everyone in a sing-along of "Say A Little Prayer." But I digress. This movie follows Julianne (Julia Roberts), a food critic whose best friend George (Dermot Mulroney) is about to marry a young, vivacious blond (Cameron Diaz, in a part that was simply made for her). Faced with George's pending nuptials Julianne realizes she has more-than-just-best-friends feelings for him and does her best to passive-aggressively sabotage the relationship.
Best Man This romantic comedy is chock-full of very attractive people, like Taye Diggs. Diggs plays Harper, a writer awaiting the upcoming publication of his first novel which is a thinly veiled account of his own past. The book includes details about certain indiscretions that occurred between himself and his friend Lance's (Morris Chestnut) bride-to-be. Harper hopes Lance won't find out about the contents of his book before the wedding, but an ex-almost-flame who has access to an early copy of the book might pose a problem for him - especially since she still has feelings for Harper. Lessons about friendship, love and forgiveness abound. Source, source and source

Since CBS released its new sitcom 2 Broke Girls, in which actress Beth Behrs plays a recently humbled heiress, Caroline, who moves to Brooklyn to hide out after her father loses their family fortune in a Ponzi scheme.

Caroline winds up living with her perpetually poor fellow waitress, Max, played by Kat Dennings, and the two hatch a plan to save their wages and start a cupcake business.

Recession-era cupcake businesses have been all the rage lately (see: Bridesmaids), but shows addressing personal finances - or lack thereof - with humor and honesty is something we don’t see very often. Caroline and Max manage to plan for their future while hustling for their present - and survive on a shoestring with admirable grace. We love that these characters live richly, even on a tight salary: After all, that's what LearnVest is all about.

And, of course, any show where the leading ladies discuss interest rates is right up our alley.

Beth Behrs: Literally up until we shot the pilot, I was working as a nanny five days a week and then as a bartender and concierge at The Geffen Playhouse on the weekends. So, I can definitely relate to being broke, right out of college and working tons of odd jobs to just pay the rent.

Holiday Wish Lists: Practical or Tacky?

Ah, the wish list.

It made a lovely debut when we were little, often addressed to a certain Mr. Claus. It had a good run for a few years, but retired itself in adulthood as the stuff of kids and dreams (with the exception of weddings and babies, when they take on the adult guise of “registry”).

And now that we are adults, wish lists (outside of those socially acceptable registries) are at best silly and at worst mercenary, right? That’s what many think.

Are We Becoming More Mercenary?

A recent New York Times story discussed the recent trend of the wish list-it’s back, along with more mercenary attitudes towards gift-giving, like a desire for gift cards instead of actual gifts. (According to the story, for the last five years, gift cards have been the most requested gift, according to National Retail Foundation surveys.) A study released earlier this year showed that people who receive gifts they had requested actually derive more pleasure from them and appreciate them more.

Group Therapy: I Have a Crush on a Guy Who's Taken

OK, I don't even know why this affects me so much. It's a purely physical interest that I have in him. we've been friends for over a year, and yeah, we get along great. He has a girlfriend, and they've never had the best relationship, so it's always been an on and off thing between them.

Anyway, the thing is that for a long time they were mostly off. He always hit on me, and while I thought he was cute, I never went for it (especially because I was taken, too). I've been single for a couple of months now. And during this period there was one night in which we both just were having the greatest time, dancing, laughing . . . and he told me he liked me. I kinda shrugged it off, because I knew he was just being sweet to get into my pants. Also, I'm not used to guys being sweet when they hit on me, so while I didn't magically fall in love with him, that whole "sweetness" shocked me, in a good, ego-boosting way. So we started making out and eventually we had sex.

I didn't think that much about it, and while it was great I regretted it because I felt it was too soon for me (considering I'd only ever been with my ex, and we hadn't been broken up for too long). And now I'm crushing on my friend!!! And we'd been flirting a lot lately, he was still being sweet (which I have to admit, was an awesome ego booster!), but we hadn't had the chance for anything to happen again when . . . BAM! He gets back together with his girlfriend, and now they're working things out.

Of course, now I've stepped back, but I'm dealing with this longing feeling, and it sucks. And I don't feel any particular interest in any guy now. I've also been having problems dealing with my breakup, since now I'm starting to miss my ex, especially the physical side of things (which is why I think I also have this longing for the other guy). I miss sex, and solo loving ain't cutting it. OK so these are like three problems together, but right now this whole crush thing is becoming annoying for me, I feel like such a 15 year old.

Kim Kardashian Issues Full Statement and Denies Being Paid For Wedding: "I’m Sorry If I Have Hurt Anyone"

Kim Kardashian got some serious thinking done during her long flight to Australia, and soon after touching down today, she wrote a full statement to her fans, which she posted on her website. Kim announced her plans to divorce Kris Humphries yesterday, and since then there have been countless stories about what went wrong in their 72-day marriage. Kim's sisters Kourtney and Khloe spoke out in defense of Kim, and her mom, Kris Jenner, defended Kim saying, "She's not the first person in the world to get a divorce or to have something like this happen to, and she won't be the last … People have to stop judging." Kris Humphries meanwhile canceled his plans to host a party in Vegas this weekend. Check out Kim's full statement below and let us know your thoughts on what she wrote. Kim Kardashian's statement reads:

"This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. I see all of the support and I am so thankful for my fans, friends and family who are helping me through this difficult time.

I am trying not to read all the different media reports but it’s hard not to see all the negative ones. First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show! I share so much of my life on a reality show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest decision. But it’s who I am! We filmed Kourtney giving birth, Khloe getting married, break ups, make ups, our best moments and our worst moments. These were all real moments. That’s what makes us who we are. We share, we give, we love and we are open!

Everyone that knows me knows that I’m a hopeless romantic! I love with all of my heart and soul. I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed in to something too soon. I believed in love and the dream of what I wanted so badly. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have. I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to and didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.

A Guide to Fall-Friendly Dried Flowers

With all of life's weddings, anniversaries and birthdays, a floral arrangement can carry sentimental value you're just not willing to compost. Instead, dry out your special flowers and turn them into lovely home accents. Dried flowers, although beautifully macabre, don't have to be a dark Halloween centerpiece or potpourri, there are many creative, yet Fall-friendly, ways to transform plant remnants into something everlasting. Check out my guide to drying, transforming, and reusing yesterday's flowers.

4 Ways to Dry Flowers

Air dry - Air drying is the most common and easiest way to dry florals. Tie a small bundle of flowers together with twine or ribbon. For the best results, one bundle should consist of one or similar-size flowers; large flowers work best when dried by each individual stem. Hang the bundle or stem upside down from hooks, rods, hangers, etc., in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Tip: cutting off the leaves before you hang will expedite the process.

Water dry - It may seem counterproductive, but placing stems in a few inches of water and letting the flower absorb the water will eventually dry the plant to the point of your desired crispiness. This process works especially well with hydrangeas, hybrid delphiniums, and acacia.

Oven dry - I know it sounds weird, but flowers like marigolds and chrysanthemums dry well in well-ventilated convection ovens. Allow the stems to dangle between small slots on a rack, and just be sure to keep the temperature under 100 degrees. The process will take several hours, but keep a careful eye on the oven!

Microwave dry - The most tumultuous of all the techniques, heat those succulents up via your household microwave. Place them on a paper towel (and don't overlap) and nuke them up on medium high for one minute. If the flowers are still moist, change the paper towel, wait 10 minutes, and repeat the process. When cooled, store in a covered container.
