The Adventures of Tintin Trailer: Spielberg Ups the Animated Action

Even if you aren't familiar with The Adventures of Tintin, the classic European comic about a brave young reporter, you'll still be intrigued by the trailer for the film if you're an action movie fan. Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are producers for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the action-packed story about Tintin as he follows a tip about a sunken ship of treasure. We're talking shipwrecks, chase scenes, and gunfire - not your usual kids' stuff, which makes me feel like this movie has a ton of appeal.

Plus, the film features the voices of actors Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell (as Tintin himself), and Simon Pegg, so at the very least, the preview is worth watching to hear them. Watch it and let me know if this trailer makes you more excited for this flick when you

4 Things That Are Terribly Wrong With the Jack and Jill Trailer

Hey, remember how in Funny People Adam Sandler's character starred in a bunch of bad big-budget movies? Well, Sandler's dual-role comedy Jack and Jill, in which he plays a man and his own sister, totally seems like it could be one of those fake films. Except it's real, and it's less than spectacular. The trailer is full of lazy jokes and cliches - but before you watch, check out the four things that I've pinpointed as the most offensive elements.

Katie Holmes is in this. I appreciate Holmes trying to add some comedy to her career, but why on earth she chose this movie for that purpose is beyond me.
Adam Sandler doesn't need to make this movie. He's funny and certainly doesn't need the paycheck. Echoing the above sentiment: why?
It's not funny. Where are the laughs? Sorry, Sandler in a wig and a dress isn't enough. They couldn't even spring for some good prosthetics?

We all oohed and ahhed over the first photo of Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, but now we've got a full-on impression to dissect. The first trailer for The Iron Lady is a brief but satisfying first glimpse of Streep's impersonation of the former British prime minister. The movie is set to hit theaters in December, the perfect time for the historical drama to be waved under the noses of Oscar voters.

Movie Preview: Attack the Block

If you're a fan of Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, then the latest from producer Edgar Wright might be right up your alley. In Attack the Block, a group of British inner-city kids are forced to band together when their neighborhood falls under alien attack. Like Shaun of the Dead, the film looks like a horror movie spoof with plenty of one-liners. Cue references to Ghostbusters and 9-year-olds ready to throw down.

Larry Crowne: A Swing and a Miss For Tom Hanks

Could the superstar combination of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts be anything less than magic? Well, yes. Larry Crowne reteams the actors in a romantic comedy, which incidentally is not very romantic, and not really that funny, either. I was ready to embrace any project that has Hanks as star, writer, and director, but sadly, Larry Crowne just isn't very good.

Hanks plays Larry, a happy employee of a big box chain store who finds himself fired due to his lack of college education. He downsizes his life, selling his home and car, and then signs up to be a full-time student at the local community college to safeguard the future of his career. At school, he takes the class of Mercedes Tainot (Roberts), a bored speech professor disillusioned with her job and marriage. Over the course of a semester, Larry makes new friends, becomes a scooter enthusiast, and falls for his lovely teacher. That description sounds delightful, but Larry Crowne falls so short in story, dialogue, and character development that it just comes off as a half-baked vanity project for Hanks. read more. The movie's humor ranges from stale to nonexistent. There's some potential in supporting characters like Wilmer Valderrama and a couple of Larry's classmates, but no one really gets enough of an opportunity to shine. The spotlight is on Hanks and Roberts, but in Larry's case, his only chance is in his contrived "quirky" mannerisms and catchphrases (stop trying to make "spectac-u-lar" happen, Larry. It's not going to happen). Meanwhile, Mercedes's constant sourpuss rarely gives way to Roberts's million-dollar grin, and she's little more than a depressed woman with a minor drinking problem. The sluggish story somehow manages to give birth to a relationship between Larry and Mercedes, but it's a completely undeveloped romance. There is hardly any flirtation before the first kiss, and when that kiss does come, it's about as hot as an icebox. The other relationships are equally unbelievable; there's an unrealistic friendship between Larry and a school friend, Talia (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and we're supposed to buy that Larry and his speech classmates have bonded by the time the term ends, but those connections just aren't there either. Without enough comedy or charm to keep it afloat, Larry Crowne is boring. It's hard to dislike anything that so often features Hanks's smiling face, but you can't rely solely on a bankable actor if the rest of the film doesn't cut it.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Trailer: There's a Spy Among Firth, Oldman, Hardy, Strong

It's still Summer, but with a few choice trailers, it feels like we're already getting a taste for what awards season will look like. Case in point: the trailer for Cold War-set Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which looks seriously fantastic. In the adaptation of the 1979 novel, Gary Oldman stars as principal character George Smiley, a detective who has come out of retirement to sniff out a Russian agent working as a spy within the British Secret Intelligence Service.

From the tense preview, we have a few prime suspects for the mole, including Colin Firth, Tom Hardy (rocking a glorious '70s mane), and frequent villain Mark Strong. That stellar cast plus the intense music and voice-over have me excited for some excellent spy drama come this Thanksgiving. The film will be released Nov. 18, so watch the trailer when you

War Horse Trailer: Steven Spielberg's Epic Equestrian War Story

I don't know why, but I've always had kind of a thing for horse movies (I blame Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken). Preying on my weakness is Steven Spielberg, who has adapted the young adult book War Horse. The story follows the friendship between a boy, Albert, and his horse, Joey, set in Europe just before World War I. When Albert and Joey are separated during the war, the horse's odyssey become much more interesting than his human counterpart, and we follow Joey on his adventure and the people he meets along the way.

Though there are a few famous faces here, like Emily Watson, David Thewlis, and Tom Hiddleston, this first teaser is all about newcomer Jeremy Irvine as Albert and his horsey companion. Paired with the WWI backdrop and soaring soundtrack, this movie has an undeniably epic feel. Watch it when you

Brave Teaser: Meet Pixar's First Leading Lady

While Cars 2 is busy dominating at the box office, Pixar is already prepping us for their next animated adventure. In Brave, we meet Pixar's very first leading lady in Merida, a flame-haired princess who is more interested in honing her archery skills than settling down and getting married. Thus begins a foray into the woods with her horse, and from the looks of this first teaser, a lot more than that. Grey's Anatomy's Kevin McKidd provides the narrative as we meet our heroine for the first time and watch her encounter a bear. This preview doesn't tell too much of the story, but we can see that the fairy tale will be beautiful - and a bit dark.

Footloose Trailer: Dennis Quaid Does Not Approve of All this Cheesiness

Get ready to kick off your Sunday shoes because the trailer for the Footloose remake has arrived. The story is pretty much the same as the 1984 classic: dancing is outlawed in a small town, this time because because dancing seems to lead to car accidents. Then, a mysterious new kid (Kenny Wormald) comes to town to shake things up and do some secret dirty dancing with the coolest girl in school (Julianne Hough) in a parking lot. Naturally, her preacher father (Dennis Quaid) is not happy about this development.

The movie looks a little edgier than the original, though it's hard to believe that any town would have a ban on dancing in this day and age. That said, fans of movies like Step Up will probably eat this up. I'm really interested to hear how you all feel about it, so give it a look when you

A Dangerous Method Trailer: Michael Fassbender Takes Keira Knightley as a Lover

Michael Fassbender fans, get ready for some steamy historical drama for the actor in David Cronenberg's latest film, A Dangerous Method. Fassbender plays Carl Jung, the renowned Swiss psychiatrist, in this film, set in Europe in the early 1900s. Jung meets and collaborates with his mentor and contemporary Sigmund Freud (Cronenberg favorite Viggo Mortensen) on what would ultimately become psychoanalysis.

But personal complications arise, and things get juicy. When new, very troubled patient Sabina (Keira Knightley, playing Russian) enters into his care, the married Jung takes a marked interest in her fractured mental state - and into her personally. As he blurs the professional lines and takes her as his mistress, his wife and Freud challenge his actions, while Jung questions them himself.
