Can-Can You Dig this Moulin Rouge Makeup?

The Moulin Rouge isn't just a figment of Baz Luhrmann's fevered imagination, it's an actual Parisian venue with a storied history. Henri Toulouse-Lautrec famously designed its performance posters, and the modern cancan was first performed on its stage.

Given the cabaret's long association with stage beauty, it's unsurprising that its collaborating with Make Up For Ever on a new cosmetics collection. Fittingly for the place's sexy image, there's red lipstick, false lashes, and rhinestones galore. It's definitely over the top, but plenty glamorous. Would you consider trying out something from this line, or is it glitzier than your taste will allow?

In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday and costuming and masquerade, I made this week's Buzzworthy challenge all about movies with great costumes, and the results were dazzling! I feel the need to check out each of these movies all over again just to get some inspiration for my own Halloween costume this year. This title was bookmarked by Kerry G who has quite the eye for fashion. There is actually not very much dialogue in this film, which is just fine by me because I'd be distracted by the outrageously beautiful and candy-colored costumes. I'm glad this film won the Oscar for Best Costumes this year.

Movie Night: Best Costumes Winners

This week I've been featuring the Oscar nominees for Best Costumes, and on Friday I'll ask you to vote for the one you think should win. In the meantime, I've planned this week's Movie Night around three movies that I think were completely deserving of their Best Costume wins.

Amadeus
One of my all-time favorite movies, Amadeus is so much more than just an amazing period piece. It tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, rising to fame in the early 19th century. The costumes do an impressive job of pulling you into the incredible opulence of that time period and class, though my favorite part is Tom Hulce, who makes Mozart into a very funny, enthusiastic, and flawed genius.

Shakespeare in Love
This film earned Gwyneth Paltrow the Best Actress Oscar in 1999, though personally, I was more impressed with the costumes than with her performance. Just look at this peacock-feather contraption that they managed to pour Judi Dench into - it is a work of art! Oh yeah, and the film is about William Shakespeare, you know, falling in love and writing one of his Great Plays. If you are impressed by costumes and love a good two hours of Shakespeare references, this is the film for you.

Moulin Rouge
Sometimes written with an exclamation point (like this: Moulin Rouge!), this movie is a feast for the senses - or rather, a feast for the senses! Fun music, dance and flashy costumes - who could ask for anything more? Nicole Kidman is delicate and beautiful as Satine, the object of desire for Christian (the dreamy Ewan McGregor), a bohemian poet. Their romance plays out inside the famous Parisian club, the Moulin Rouge, where people of all classes would collectively enjoy a little can-can. The rich colors and passionate mood of this film will make you swoon.

The Great Gatsby Trailer: DiCaprio Always Looks So Cool

The trailer for Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation of The Great Gatsby is everything I hoped it would be: visually stunning, stylish, and sexy. Of course, he has the benefit of his source material being set in the 1920s, a period that offers amazing costumes, cars, and sets, especially when the story focuses on the elite and their lavish parties. At the center of those parties is Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), a mysteriously wealthy man who enjoys throwing big, fancy events but doesn't seem to relish the attention that goes with them. He prefers to watch from afar, particularly when it comes to Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), a naive but beautiful young woman in an unhappy marriage, whom Gatsby admires.

If you had to read the story in high school like most of us did, then you know how narrator Nick (Tobey Maguire)'s story goes. There's sex, scandal, and tragedy as we learn more about the inner workings of the upper class. This is all hinted at in the preview, along with Luhrmann's signature polish that's reminiscent of his smash hit Moulin Rouge. My only gripe is that the Kanye song feels a bit out of place, but that hardly impedes my excitement for this movie. Zac Efron Makes a Final Promotional Push Prior to His Lucky Opening Day

Zac Efron took off from LAX yesterday and touched down in NYC a few hours later. He was dressed casually in a WeSC t-shirt and beanie and kept a low profile in large dark sunglasses. Zac's visiting the East Coast to promote his Nicholas Sparks film, The Lucky One. Zac stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA on Monday, where Jimmy challenged him to a bra unhooking contest, and he's expected to visit Live With Kelly tomorrow prior to the film's opening on Friday.

Zac and his costar Taylor Schilling have been all over the globe in recent weeks talking about their steamy love scenes. The pair recently returned from a weeklong trip to Australia's Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Zac's been playing it cool talking about his intimate moments with Taylor, but it's his love scene with Nicole Kidman in The Paperboy that really got him nervous. According to Zac, "That one my heart was racing for. . . I'm a big fan of Nicole's for a long time. I felt like I was stepping into Moulin Rouge."

Lovely Old Hollywood star Constance Bennett (you may know her from Topper, Moulin Rouge, and It Should Happen to You) teamed up with director Hal Roach, the man behind iconic comedy duo Laurel & Hardy, for this 1937 educational film shot in gorgeous and expensive Cinecolor. It's fascinating to see what the makeup and hair of the era really looked like, and even more interesting to see how relatively straightforward the skin care was - no serums, no scrubs, just a waterless cleanser and a mask you leave on as long as you can. Even the makeup is pretty simple (although it does make us wish rouge was still the norm). And her tips aren't bad, either.

'Can Can' You Handle More Paris?

Most of you prefer Paris Hilton as a blonde, but after reading some of your comments, I'm sensing that some of you would just prefer that she go away for a while. Miss Hilton is probably hoping that Paris fatigue is over by October, when the heiress introduces Can Can, her fourth scent. According to WWD:

Can Can is a blend of top notes of clementine flower, cassis and nectarine; middle notes of wild orchid and orange blossom, and bottom notes of soft musk, amber and woods. The three previous Hilton fragrances - Paris Hilton, Just Me and Heiress - were classified as fruity floral fragrances.

At $45 for a 1.7-ounce bottle and $55 for a 3.4 ounce bottle, Can Can is a little more pricey than Paris' earlier fragrances. But judging by the money Paris' fragrances are pulling in already-$75 million wholesale a year, according to the article-there's no shortage of people willing to buy them.

I have to admit, the Can Can concept is pretty cute; it's about time Paris the person linked up with an icon of Paris the city. Models in Moulin Rouge-style costumes will hand out samples of the fragrance on feathers rather than on traditional cards, and the bottle does remind me of the famed dancers from the City of Light.
