Molly Ringwald has come a long way from her days in the Brat Pack, and now she's talking about her philosophy for aging beautifully in a new book, Getting the Pretty Back. I got the chance to speak with Molly at a recent Benefit event, and she talked about everything from her morning beauty routine to wearing less makeup now than she did in her John Hughes days. It's a Cult Movie Halloween: Claire From The Breakfast Club

If you've never seen The Breakfast Club, I highly suggest you get on that pronto. (Netflix members: the flick currently streams for free!) The year was 1984; the location was the fictional Shermer High School in Illinois, and the plot centered around five misfits - a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal - brought together for Saturday detention. Bonding ensues, and an '80s classic was born.

Why not gather a group together and go as the angsty gang for Halloween? To get Molly Ringwald's look as Claire, the "princess" of the group, the focus should be all about the hair. If you're unable to find a bobbed copper wig, simply fake a shorter cut and spray your hair with a red-orange temporary color. And if you're feeling particularly daring, color your own strands with a bold copper hue. For the eyes, go with an auburn brow pencil, taupe shadow, and a chestnut liner. Complete the look with creamy peach blush, a plumping neutral pink lipstick, and mauve nail polish. Of course, don't you forget to carry around that lipstick to perform a few party tricks.

No, you haven't slipped into a hot tub time machine. That is Molly Ringwald, and she is clutching a Caboodles box. Any girl who lived through the '80s is familiar with both the John Hughes muse and the makeup cases - they were both iconic parts of the decade, and both are still going strong today. Caboodles is angling to return to its once-ubiquitous stance as the cosmetic organizer. (In your face, Sassaby!) And with a teen-queen icon holding their goods, we can't help but take notice. (Now, get Jon Cryer to dance to Otis Redding again, and we'll buy just about anything.)

Molly Ringwald's Insight on Pursuing Something You Love

Sometimes all it takes are a few words to remind you to take the plunge. In Molly Ringwald's new life advice book, Getting the Pretty Back ($18), she shares a few tips for getting pretty for an interview, and an inspirational note about taking steps to follow your head and heart. She says:

Time and again I've spoken to people or known friends who have stopped and looked at what they are doing in their lives and realized that it was not the life they had envisioned for themselves. Sometimes it involves a drastic step - leaving a career, going back to school, even ending a relationship that is deeply unsatisfying. But, more often it's the little steps that matter; carving out a little time for your self to pursue something you really love.

Can Motherhood Take Your Pretty? Molly Ringwald Thinks So

She was pretty in pink and the star of Sixteen Candles. Now at 42 and a mother of three, Molly Ringwald has managed to "get her pretty back." The brat pack it girl of the '80s has penned an uncomfortably candid book about "friendship, family and finding the perfect lipstick" called Getting the Pretty Back ($18). It hits bookstore shelves today. On motherhood, she writes:

In the months after I delivered Mathilda, I would catch glimpses of myself in the mirror, each time thinking the same thing: Is that me? I couldn't get over the heft of my body. I would breast-feed my daughter and look down in horror to find my breasts were larger than her head. My husband came home from work one day to discover me in the bedroom, dissolved in tears. "It's true! It's true..." "What's true?" he asked, alarmed. "She got it all. She sucked the pretty out of me..."

I'm sure I'm not the only woman who has felt this way, and obviously it isn't only motherhood that can give you that feeling...What makes it so disturbing when it is motherhood, however, is the completely irrational feeling that your loss is someone else's gain. Something that is so associated with something so wonderful. The giving of life. It's the ultimate bittersweet sensation.

The John Hughes movies that Ringwald is so famous for always have a happy ending. Though the actress divulges frank anecdotes in the text, this morning on Live With Regis and Kelly she said she's had a good life. Molly Ringwald Goes Green to Lose Weight

I've come to accept that I will always get a little choked up during the Oscars. This year it happened during the touching tribute to John Hughes - director of one of my all-time favorites, The Breakfast Club. It was especially great to see actress Molly Ringwald take the stage to honor her mentor. Like me, most of you thought Molly looked stunning in her purple Todd Thomas gown. Looking at her on stage, it was hard to believe that she gave birth to twins just eight months ago! The actress shared with People magazine that the key to slimming down for her was to keep everything in moderation.

Molly also may be getting into the St. Patrick's Day spirit early, admitting that her day isn't complete without some green.

"I try to make sure that I eat something green. I think that's just a really good rule of thumb. I love all different kinds of vegetables, but the green ones are generally the best for you and the best for your diet."

While I think it's best to get a rainbow of colors on your plate, Molly is on to something - leafy green veggies are packed with vitamin A, folate, and potassium. Molly waited until her twins were 6 weeks old before she started to lose the weight, and made a decision to take things slow.

"Just dieting basically, and it wasn't even like a really strict diet. It was more just a sensible diet, cutting down on sweets and upping the vegetables and protein, less starch, and I just worked out a lot, I'd say about three or four times a week."

The Night's Big Winners Take Their Oscars to the Press Room!

Last night's big winners went from accepting their awards on stage straight into the press room, where Sandra Bullock humbly spoke about her honor. Kathryn Bigelow was visibly moved after being the first female to pick up best director for The Hurt Locker, though she's looking forward to a day when gender becomes a moot point. Rachel McAdams and Jake Gyllenhaal were flanking Geoffrey Fletcher, who picked up best screenplay for Precious.

Mo'Nique and Christoph Waltz brought their supporting actor gold in for a few photos, while Jeff Bridges joked about starting a band with Colin Farrell. Molly Ringwald and Matthew Broderick joined other actors from John Hughes films to chat after their touching tribute to the late director. There's lots more to come from Hollywood's biggest night, including all the afterparties, so stay tuned!

This year at the Oscars, we spotted some of Hollywood's finest looking pretty in pink and purple. We love how Queen Latifah looked exquisite in a jewel-encrusted light purple frock; Vera Farmiga stunned in a bright fuchsia gown by Marchesa; and Jennifer Lopez shined in a light pink confection by Armani Prive.
