The Beautiful Life Gets Cancelled After Only Two Episodes!

The CW has pulled the plug on The Beautiful Life after airing only two episodes. The ratings were dismal for the premiere and apparently things weren't looking up after the second week on the air. This makes TBL the first of the new Fall shows to be canceled after two other new CW shows - Melrose Place and The Vampire Diaries - were both picked up for more episodes. Sad news for Mischa Barton, the rest of the cast, and producer Ashton Kutcher. So, are you disappointed to see The Beautiful Life go so soon?

The CW's modelicious new series The Beautiful Life is a look into the secret, scandalous lives of cat walkers. Mischa Barton is back on the small screen as a Kate Moss type whose career has mysteriously fallen by the wayside, while Sarah Paxton is the younger model gearing up to take her place. Movie Preview: The Assassination of a High School President

Not long ago I watched Rocket Science for a second time and was struck all over again by how superbly Reece Thompson (pictured, right) captures the whole Awkward Teen thing. In Assassination of a High School President, he's at it again - though this time his character is ever so slightly cooler and more self-assured than Rocket Science's Hal. In Assassination he plays a sophomore high school student who finds himself teaming up with an unlikely friend, popular girl Francesca Fachini (Mischa Barton), to solve a case of stolen SAT exams. Then, "once the duo target their suspects, a larger conspiracy is unearthed." Bruce Willis plays the school's tough-guy principal.

The movie was well-received at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and was directed by relative newcomer Brett Simon. No release info is available just yet, but even if it goes straight to DVD I'm going to check out this weird little high school movie. To see a trailer, read more.

The "Scary" Homecoming Trailer Makes Me LOL

Homecoming, starring Mischa Barton and 90210's Jessica Stroup, looks like one of those "scary" movies that just makes people laugh hysterically. It misses the mark entirely when it comes to suspense but works quite well as a comedy. Stroup plays the new girlfriend of a guy (Matt Long) who used to date this crazy obsessed girl (Barton). Of course, the ex-girlfriend goes after the new girlfriend because she is so jealous and so crazy.

You know, these movies do serve a kind of purpose. They're so silly and mindless, they're good for an amusing movie night when you just don't want to think. I don't think I'll pay to see Homecoming in the theaters when it opens July 17, but by the time Halloween rolls around I'll probably be in the mood to pop in the DVD. The Beautiful Life: A Longer Look

Models and The CW go together like mashed potatoes and gravy, so I've been curious to see more about The Beautiful Life, the Ashton Kutcher-produced drama series that the network picked up at last month's Upfronts. The show focuses on a group of models living together and trying to make it big in New York, with Mischa Barton and Corbin Bleu among the stars.

The new, extended trailer the network released this week looks a little different from what I'd been expecting. Sure, there's still a lot of makeup and clubby music and glamour shots, like we saw in the first preview clips. But this video really showcases the relationship between two of the young up-and-comers, Raina (Sara Paxton) and Isaac (Ben Hollingsworth), as they're thrown into the modeling world. Their story's contrasted against Sonja's (Barton), as she struggles to maintain her place in the pecking order after a mysterious disappearance from New York society.

To my surprise, there's something almost sweet about this trailer, and it definitely makes me more curious to see the show. One tip to the CW, though: We'll call it TBL if we want to call it TBL. Please don't try to make TBL happen. To check out the trailer, just read more.

First Look: Melrose Place, The Vampire Diaries, The Beautiful Life, and Parental Discretion Advised

We already heard that the CW had chosen a lineup of models, vampires, and LA singles for the Fall, but now we have a chance to see them in action. After the jump below, I've got the first preview clips of these takes on the Melrose Place residents, the lives of high-powered models, and the undead.

Speaking of undead - that may be exactly the status of the Gossip Girl spinoff. The much-discussed show so far doesn't have a place on either the Fall or midseason schedules, and that was presumed to be the end of things. But no: The network is still considering picking it up later, and it's presumably competing with Body Politic with Minka Kelly and Jason Dohring. So it'll be a bit of a wait to see if either of those shows can join Melrose Place, The Beautiful Life, The Vampire Diaries, and Parental Discretion Advised on the CW's schedule.

Mischa Barton Lands a Beautiful Job on the Small Screen

Mischa Barton is coming to the CW - but not, as rumored, in the pilot for the new Melrose Place. Instead, she'll be playing a model in The Beautiful Life, a drama pilot that's being considered for Fall.

The show's being produced by Ashton Kutcher, among others, and revolves around a group of models (coed, naturally) living together in a house in New York City. Barton's character is Sonja, "a supermodel and veteran of the high-fashion circuit who is struggling to keep on top and is in danger of slipping."

The famously fashion-loving Barton's got modeling experience of her own to draw on - she's been the face of Bebe and her own handbag and headband collections, among others. I'm curious to see how this project comes together - and even more curious to see Barton back on the small screen. Tell me: Do you think this sounds like a good post-OC project for the former Marissa Cooper?

Behind the Scenes at Sundance: The Photobooth, Take 2

With my time at Sundance nearing its end, I figured I would check back in with the photobooth to see which new stars had stopped by for their festival portraits. Not surprisingly, what I found was a whole new bucket full of cute.

Luke Wilson, Adrianna Barraza, and Radha Mitchell from Henry Poole is Here, which I was lucky enough to see, finally took their turn at the photobooth, as did Mischa Barton, who's here for Assassination of a High School President. Felicity Huffman, Patricia Clarkson, and Elle Fanning melted my heart with their shots for Phoebe in Wonderland - I mean, they got Elle a box to stand on! And then there are Matthew Perry and Lauren Graham, hamming it up as they promote Birds of America.

Mischa Barton Is Walled In

Miss Mischa Barton, the waifish former Marissa Cooper from "The O.C.", is a busy lady these days. Currently working alongside Bruce Willis in Assassination of a High School President and having just wrapped up production on Finding t.A.T.u., Barton has landed another role. This time she'll be solving mysteries and getting goosebumps in the psychological thriller Walled In.

Based on the bestselling French novel Les Emmeures, the movie will follow Barton's character, "a demolition company rep who supervises the razing of a mysterious building and discovers horrifying secrets and past inhabitants entombed within its walls by a vicious murderer."

The movie will be French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner's first English-language project, so that should be interesting. I'm also curious to find out if Paquet-Brenner can get some good performances out of Barton, since I think she often comes across as wooden. But maybe the psychological thriller is her genre and she just hasn't had the chance to shine yet.
