Reese Makes Time for Midnight

Just as I was saying it looked like Reese Witherspoon was moving on to darker fare, she's been tapped for another comedy. According to Variety, Reese will be starring in a remake of the 1939 comedy Midnight.

My favorite part of the news? The remake is being written by Little Miss Sunshine writer (and Oscar winner) Michael Arndt, whose idea it was to bring Midnight back to the screen. Here's how Variety describes the film:

In the original, Claudette Colbert starred as a destitute young woman in Paris who becomes a pawn when a wealthy man tries to get rid of the gigolo wooing his wife.

Arndt told Variety that the film is one of his favorite movies and getting to update it with Reese is "simply a dream come true." Type A, Reese's production company, will produce the film for Universal Pictures.

He beat out Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy for 127 Hours, Michael Arndt, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich for Toy Story 3, Joel and Ethan Coen for True Grit, and Debra Granik and Anne Rossellini for Winter's Bone.
