Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 23, "Curveball," and Episode 24, "The Fall Issue"

Well, friends, this week concludes Ugly Betty's run on Thursday nights. The show brought out loads of stars for its third season finale, but then a lot of things happened and then unhappened and then rehappened again, and I'm wondering this morning if we actually needed two whole hours of that.

Betty has the job! Betty doesn't have the job. Betty's promoted! Betty isn't promoted. Betty's in love! Betty isn't in love. Betty's sort of in love? And then there's the ever-present threat of Molly dying hanging over everything, and even though it's predictable and slightly manipulative, I still cried. Let's get to chatting - just read more.

So Molly didn't die after last week's cliffhanger, and after she gets out of the hospital, the whole world is smitten with her relationship with Daniel. He's no longer a man-whore to the world but Prince Charming instead.

Therefore, he gets to go on The View to promote the wedding issue. I feel like this could have been funnier.

Um, I think I might get fired if my boyfriend showed up to work as much as Matt does. He stops by with his first painting and it's so ugly! Betty is practically naked in it, too.

The best ever is when Amanda sees it and gasps, "It's like looking at the butt of Satan!"

Of course, when Betty is all, "Everything is perfect! There's even a rainbow!" when she and Matt talk about moving in together, that's right when she spots Henry.

Then she Facebook-stalks him! Turns out Henry has a new aerobics girlfriend (Hazel from Gossip Girl), so now he's all buff.

I got so irritated with Betty when she does the whole compare-Matt-to-Henry scoreboard thing. Betty's inner voice is kind of funny, though: "Should I mention Matt's rich? No! That's gross."

And then Matt making his stomach talk is awesome.

Daniel is so awkward at the baseball game with Molly when he tells that other lady he doesn't want to go out with her! I cringed.

I'm convinced the only reason Betty gets the job at The New York Review is so we could get a teary Daniel/Betty goodbye moment. But then of course she doesn't get the job and is staying at Mode, so . . . whatever.

Meanwhile, Matt was driving me nuts. He gets mad at Betty all the time! He's so sensitive that she doesn't announce to the whole world they're moving in together.

But then, um, Matt totally has a right to be mad because Betty makes out with Henry! And Matt sees it, of course. Why is he there? Also, do people really do this Facebook status message stalking thing? For one thing, it's kind of hard to find people's status messages on Facebook these days.

Christine Baranski and Vanessa Williams singing together at the piano is brilliant. Dream come true.

Baranski spills the beans that Claire has a love child somewhere out there. I kept hoping/thinking it would be Matt.

Who does Willi see in the end? Connor?! And does Daniel really see Molly's ghost? Also, I never really thought Matt and Betty were destined to be together, but I didn't see evil Matt coming, either. He's going to be so awful next season, I just know it.

What are your highlights from this week's two-hour bonanza? Who's your favorite guest star? And was it enough to make you follow Betty to Fridays in the Fall?

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 22, "In the Stars"

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is packed with proposals and marriage talk and even an honest-to-goodness wedding. But who's getting married? It's pretty easy to figure out - but fun to watch nonetheless.

I've often wondered how someone as ambitious as Betty could remain an assistant at Mode for so long. The crappy economy offers the writers a fairly reasonable way to keep her stagnated in her career a little while longer, and this episode fleshes that out a bit. Finally, Matt and Betty have yet another fight, making me think this romance is clearly destined for failure. Let's chat about it, just read more.

Hilda has some good zingers this week. I love her line to Matt and Betty in the kitchen before work: "Please don't be one of those kiss-with-the-food-in-the-mouth couples. That's just gross!" I agree. Those couples bug.

Also, whoa. Hilda is totally wearing stirrup pants. Only she can pull that off.

Betty is excited because it's her review, but despite being "excellent" at her job, Daniel can't promote her due to a hiring freeze. Bummer for Betty. It strikes me as realistic because if Mode has a hiring freeze, basically no one in publishing is hiring, which means Betty - someone dead set on being a magazine editor - gets stuck.

I like Daniel's line acknowledging Betty's ambition: "I know you have bigger aspirations for yourself than booking my tan."

Molly sees the wedding props for Mode's bridal issue and thinks Daniel is proposing. Amanda is hilarious: "Oh no. She definitely thought you were proposing. Yikes. That is really embarrassing."

I'm always touched by Claire Meade, twisted though she may be. The moment when she gives Daniel her ring to give to Molly is cute.

Also fun? Claire and Willi trading ex-husband/dead-husband insults while yanking around a model in a neon-pink wedding gown.

It turns out Matt is actually super flaky when it comes to his career. I thought he was into sports writing, but whatever. His goofing around on YouTube in Amanda and Marc's apartment is awesome: "Wait, wait! We're about to watch a gopher make a dramatic face!"

Meanwhile, the Suarez family learns that Ignacio's lady love is looking into a nursing job in California. When he asks his family what to do, they're all, "Duh! If you like it put a ring on it!" - complete with Beyonce-inspired hand motions. Great scene.

When Betty freaks about not getting the planetarium, she says to Marc, "This is Adele! Not Amy Winehouse!" Marc says that's funny. I don't know if I agree.

Yay! Christine Baranski is back! She's always a welcome addition to an episode. This time around, it's hard to tell if she's really all that evil. She is manipulative, though, and Betty's kind of a dope for going along with her scheme and not just being honest with Matt.

The Molly/Daniel romance hasn't moved me all that much since it started, but I'm only human: that talk of cookware lasting the happy couple into their 50s is really heartbreaking!

Their wedding is way cute, too. The best part, of course, is Willi destroying planets in the background

Ignacio does the right thing, I think, by letting the one he loves go. Betty and Matt make up and he brings her Adele. Daniel and Molly have a totally adorable planetarium wedding - but then disaster strikes! I saw it coming, but still, poor Molly! What did you think of this episode?

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 21, "The Born Identity"

I wasn't prepared for this week's emotional ending to Ugly Betty. We knew that Ashley Jensen, who plays Christina, would be moving on, but it was still sad to watch Betty say goodbye to her friend. First, though, the show had to remind us that Christina and Betty are BFFs, especially since Betty has been spending so much time with her new boyfriend and Amanda.

Betty is there for Christina after Wilhelmina bans her from seeing the baby, but their friendship is pushed to the limit with a certain twist that brings up the age-old dilemma: do you stick by your friend when she's accidentally dragged you into a high-profile illegal affair? To see what Betty chooses to do, read more.

I was hoping Hilda and Archie were going to announce getting married. I know we haven't seen enough of them together, but he's nice, he's successful, he's not married. Good enough!

Hilda getting excited about being in Archie's video shoot is so cute: "Should I play up my arms like Michelle Obama?"

The first thing I noticed when we finally get over to Mode is Amanda's freaking skirt. Whoa. I still don't know if I love it or hate it.

The deal with Cal Hartley hasn't been inked yet, so he's in the office to finalize things. He still calls Daniel "bunny!"

Amanda on Cal: "Daddy Warbucks is kind of old . . . and hot" and "Betty, when I marry Mr. Hartley, I'm gonna be your mom."

Betty tells the police that Christina would never ever kidnap a baby, so of course I knew that Christina had totally kidnapped the baby.

I can't believe they bring the baby to Betty's house! I feel like that implicates the entire family in this crime. Very irresponsible.

Hilda is so peeved at Betty for bringing the baby over during the shoot. This line of hers, delivered to Betty when she explains that they just need to prove the baby is Christina's, cracked me up: "OK! So we'll just drop by the DNA pagoda at the mall!"

It always touches me when Betty turns to Claire for help.

And how cute is Archie? He totally understands Betty kidnapping a baby! And then he even gives her advice to play dirty.

Marc comes up with a new Willi nickname after she figures out a way to hold on to her stake in the company even without the baby: "Bravo, Willi-maestro. Bravo."

And thus ends the whole Christina-Willi-baby-Meade heir plot that has dragged on for about 25 years. Are you sad to see Christina go? What did you think of last night's episode?

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 20, "Rabbit Test"

This week's Ugly Betty is a little bit late to the Easter party, but no matter. It's still lots of fun - what with Daniel in a neon pink bunny suit and all. Financially speaking, things at Mode are looking quite grim, and Daniel is forced to put his dignity aside to save the company.

Whose evil idea is it to make Daniel hop for his supper (supper, in this case, being millions of dollars invested into Meade family magazines)? Let's just say Betty's boyfriend's mother is just the tip of the iceberg in that messed-up rich family. Meanwhile, it's brought to Wilhelmina's attention that her child looks nothing like her. Dun-dun-dun!

Can Daniel save the company? Is Willi really the mother of one of the heirs to the Meade fortune? Let's chat about the return of Betty - just read more.

Times are tough, y'all. Daniel has to take the bus and Willi is on the subway. Meanwhile, Betty gets to ride to work in limos!

When Betty gets to Mode, it looks like people are looting the office, but it's really just that the economy is bad and they have to save money. I guess once the budget gets tight, you lose all the fun perks of working at a magazine . . . like furniture. I love Amanda's line while all the guys are moving stuff out: "I feel so violated, and not in a good way!"

Betty gets an "eggvite" to Matt's dad's ultraexclusive Easter party, and Daniel's jealous. It's pretty nice of Matt to invite Betty's whole family, too, don't you think? I usually wait a while to mix families when I start dating someone.

Meanwhile, Willi's getting portraits taken of her and the baby, and the photographer points out that the baby, um, doesn't look like her at all. Willi's line back is great: "He'll brown up eventually."

Oh man, I keep laughing just thinking about Hilda's pronunciation of "Fabergé." To Justin after he corrects her: "No, sweetie. When there's an "e" at the end, it's silent."

I cringed when Betty first tells Daniel that Matt would be happy to set up a meeting with his father. I felt like she was in for trouble by offering that up so quickly.

One excellent scene is when Marc not-so-subtly tries to figure out if Christina had sex around the time she was implanted with Willi's egg. He suddenly starts to act all BFF with her and whips out a sex quiz, which of course makes Amanda appear out of nowhere: "I'm like the Einstein of sex. . . . I have a pornographic memory."

And then things get really dire and Amanda gets laid off. Sad!

So the Easter egg hunt event Matt's dad throws is pretty cool. How cute does Matt look in a suit? I think he is growing on me despite all his issues.

Also, Hilda's curtsy when she meets Matt's dad is basically the best thing ever.

Actually, no. The best thing ever is Hilda finding the special egg and getting mad when they donate the prize that goes along with finding the egg to a charity in her name. Ha!

Willi totally cheats on that blood test, right? She would never just get a test and do the right thing when it comes to her stake in the Meade family estate. Not buying it.

All in all, a pretty decent episode, although it appears Daniel has made a deal with the devil to save the company (Matt: "Dad's more like . . . Satan"). Also, I was wondering about this: Betty basically comes up with the maneuver that hooks Daniel up with an investor who completely saves the day. Doesn't rescuing an entire company qualify a person for a raise? A promotion? Anything? She should demand that.

What did you think of this episode?

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 19, "The Sex Issue"

The promo for this week's episode of Ugly Betty made it look like Betty's wealthy Prince Charming is potentially a cheating player. This wouldn't be too hard to believe because of all the weird lying Matt does.

Well, it turns out that he is, in fact, hiding something from her that's a little more uncomfortable than it is scandalous. Also, Marc and Amanda give Betty an amazingly weird and fun tutorial on seduction.

Meanwhile, Hilda and Archie give their relationship a go and Daniel learns about metaphors! Let's get chatting, just read more.

When the episode opens Matt and Betty are all into each other and gross and shmoopy. Matt uses terms like "Monthiversary" and when Betty tells him that he doesn't always have to bring her back to Queens he responds with, "Well that's where my queen lives." Um, barf.

OK, so Ignacio awkwardly interrupts Betty and Matt's kiss and then he interrupts Hilda and Archie, and you know what this makes me think? Maybe everyone shouldn't live together at this age. Just a thought.

Betty and Matt haven't had sex yet (Amanda: "Are you actually saying that you haven't tapped that yet?") and when Betty tries to give Matt the signal, he stuffs her in a cab (cab driver: "That guy couldn't' get rid of you fast enough!").

Both Hilda and Amanda tell Betty she's got to go after Matt sexually if that's what she wants. Betty calls her style "subtle" to which Amanda responds, "Maybe like a 100 years ago in like, the 1950s, but these days bolder is better." Ha! Amanda + math = funny.

OMG, Marc and Amanda's "Operation Betty Sexification" is so funny and not sexy at all. It involves "the art of the sexy hair flip" and a ladle.

And, oh wow . . . Betty's attempt to seduce Matt? Yikes. Here's a taste: "What's your hurry, soldier?" Ha!

So the episode is titled "The Sex Issue" because it's time for Mode's annual sex issue and because Matt has a little sex issue of his own.

Yep, turns out that lady he's hugging on in the promos isn't his lover - it's a therapist he sees because he's had sex with, like, hundreds of people or something. So does that make him a sex addict? They don't come out and say that. Maybe he's just promiscuous? Hmm.

This weirds Betty out and then she gets over it. If the guy's in therapy for the number of ladies he's "tapped," to use Amanda's phrasing, I might have requested an STD test from him if I were Betty. Just saying.

How amazing is Hilda's fight with Archie's old girlfriend?! I love the vanilla vs. hot caramel tough talk. I love Hilda like this.

I also died of laughter when Hilda not-so-gently suggests that Archie get a tattoo on his butt right after sex.

Finally, best line of the evening goes to Willie, of course, because it's oh so true: "What is it with white people and Taye Diggs?!"

Molly and Daniel are actually pretty cute this episode (Betty has to explain to him that Molly's poem about the ocean was a metaphor for the sex they have), which almost made me forget she's dying. Sad. Also, it looks like a good cry into a hot nanny's sculpted bare chest helps Willie finally get over Connor, thank goodness, and the Suarez women appear to be in love. All is well in Betty land. What do you think of this episode?

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 18, "A Mother of a Problem"

This week's Ugly Betty comes with a super-special treat: Christine Baranski! Honestly, once Baranski's involved with something I'm hard-pressed to be very critical of it. She is pitch-perfect as Betty's new boyfriend's upper-crust snob of a mother who disapproves of our young heroine. As usual, Betty is desperate to please, but winning over Matt's mom looks like it's going to be an uphill battle.

Meanwhile, Hilda reluctantly accepts love into her life post married dude, Daniel wants to fight Molly's cancer, and Wilhelmina faces losing her daily champagne and caviar snack in the wake of the financial crisis plaguing Mode. Fun episode, so let's talk about it! Just read more.

Matt's now comfortable having breakfast at Casa Suarez even though Betty's not calling him her boyfriend yet. Justin asks totally inappropriate questions like, "How rich are you? How much money do you really have?"

Another fella who pops by in the morning is Archie (Ralph Macchio)! I was concerned they might not make him a love interest of Hilda's so I'm glad he's back. How cute is it that he shows up for haircuts?

Oh, snap. Hilda tells Betty she's not sure about Archie, saying, "He's missing something," to which Betty responds, "What, like a wedding ring like your last boyfriend?"

One of the funniest lines of the night comes from Wilhelmina when she tells a photographer how much she loved his Brad and Angelina Brady Bunch shoot, and then asks, "How on earth did you get Jennifer Aniston to play Alice?!"

Matt does weird stuff. First, he forgets his wallet all the time, then he does the shady secret check to Betty's family thing, and then he just sort of lies about telling his mom about Betty and even tells the whole Suarez family his mother says Betty sounds like the daughter she never had.

Later, after an awkward run-in with Matt's mom, in which she mistakes Betty for a member of her domestic staff, we learn Matt lied. Betty kind of brushes this off, but Matt's becoming someone who seems really comfortable lying, which is worrisome. I'm trying to keep an open mind, though, because he looks like Josh Groban and seems to really like Betty.

Oh man, and the whole Willie's-out-of-money bit was killing me all night. I love this line of Marc's: "Willie! Selling your possessions? Isn't that like one rung up from being on a reality show?"

When Marc finds her in bed with all of her furs I died of laughter. That's the Wilhelmina Slater I love.

I also enjoy Amanda's uncanny ability to boil down Betty's relationship to a tacky stereotype, citing Betty's potential entrance into the "Golddigger Hall of Fame."

Claire is so cute and surrogate motherish to Betty. I love her anecdote about attending an Arianna Huffington party with torture as its "topic," saying with glee, "We waterboarded Liz Smith." Ha! There's a visual.

Back home, Ignacio has invited Archie to dinner unbeknownst to Hilda who gets pretty stressed about it. Enter Justin handing her a glass of wine: "Mom, here's your medication." I hope and pray I raise a son as knowing as Justin one day.

Another good quote? Marc nicknaming Daniel "the boy blunder." Fun times with wordplay.

In the end Matt stands up to his mom, but I still can't tell if Victoria is someone who will respect Betty's chutzpah or if she subscribes to the Wilhelmina Slater theory of winning at all costs - even if it's immoral and evil. Time will tell. Also, Molly and Daniel. Man that's boring. I mean, it's sad but this whole "live life to the fullest" thing is sort of clunker of a subplot in the midst of fun, pointed stuff like Willie lying in a bed of fur coats in the middle of an economic meltdown.

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 17, "Sugar Daddy"

This week's episode of Ugly Betty is ripped from the super-crazy-depressing recession headlines that have been ruining all of our days for months now. I guess I'm not surprised the gloomy financial news finally seeped into my Thursday night television lineup but I'm not totally happy about it.

Thankfully, there was also a story woven in there about people down on their luck (surprise! The Suarez family) miraculously coming out on top, plus some smooshy relationship stuff to boot. So all in all pretty solid episode in terms of not boring me. Ready to chat about it? Just read more.

First off, Betty comes out to the kitchen in all black and looks good! The family is shocked at how chic she looks, and Justin even tears up. She says she's only dressed like that because Mode is in financial ruin and Daniel's girlfriend is dying.

And then she turns around and there's a big, weird bow on her butt.

Matt and Betty are going pretty hot and heavy - he even sends her jelly beans with a heart balloon to the office! Cute or lame?

Wilhelmina is cranky. Connor left her, stole all the money, etc. She takes her anger out on an employee wearing gladiator sandals ("Will you be wrestling in Rome?!") and fires her.

Amanda has her own little subplot this week that involves her estranged parents. Marc walks up to her at the front desk yelling into the phone, "Leave me alone, you psycho!" Which she's saying to her mother. Ha!

Mode is in a ton of trouble, Daniel's sad because Molly is dying, and then we learn the Suarez family is being evicted unless they can raise thousands of dollars to buy the house themselves. Stressful!

Hilariously, the whole family chips in to start saving, including Justin, who skips school to panhandle downtown. I can't believe he was singing a song out there with the lyrics, "Money makes the world go round!"

How many of you caught Matt's alarmed concern for the fate of Betty's family when he was visiting during the cook-off? Between that little scene and Hilda pointing out that Matt forgetting his wallet a lot is weird, I knew Matt had a huge secret.

Turns out he's loaded! There are worse secrets for new boyfriends to have, lemme tell ya. He sends Betty a secret check for $10,000 and when she finds out, she gets super-mad. He says the exact wrong thing a person ought to say to their struggling girlfriend from Queens: "We throw money like this at charity all the time." Betty: "I'm not your charity."

But then she says sorry and they have a cute kiss at the end. Also, he's worth billions and looks more and more like Josh Groban every time I look at him.

The best part of the episode is Daniel and Willi's plea to Congress for a bailout from the government. They try to do the right thing and take the bus to the hearing (Willie tries to use a credit card, Daniel only has a 50 dollar bill) and blow the whole thing when they're caught by a tabloid getting wasted off a $400 bottle of wine at a fancy restaurant. Willi: "To be fair, Congressman, it was the only drinkable thing on the menu."

When Daniel stands up and declares he's not going to take taxpayer money because of the laid-off auto workers or something and will liquidate all of his assets to save the company and jobs, I felt it was all a tad much. Do we really need our depression-era fables this heavy-handed?

Finally, Marc and "Willi-mini" is pretty fun. He uses the baby to pick up a single dad but decides the dad is boring because all he talks about is his "stupid baby."

So Daniel's all in: If Mode goes bust, so does he. Betty's got a new billionaire boyfriend, Ignacio saves the family with his mole sauce, and Amanda's no longer mad at her parents. Also, Daniel is going to be there for Molly. Another sad but touching ending to this week. What did you all think?

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 16, "Things Fall Apart"

So, wow. This week's episode of Ugly Betty is filled with intrigue, mystery, work dilemmas for Betty and Marc, and even love! It's also awfully intense and pretty sad by the end.

It's a decent followup to last week's amazing runway birth (I mean, it's not like anything was going to top that). It's especially dramatic where the Daniel/Molly and Willi/Connor relationships are concerned, because I've been feeling for a while now that they need to be more than just lovey-dovey . All in all, it's a satisfying hour of TV. So let's talk about it! Just read more.

Daniel's feeling under the weather, so he checks himself into a luxury hotel to watch cartoons like any publishing scion would do. He also goes on and on about how he thinks he's dying, which I immediately took to be sad foreshadowing of what was to come with Molly.

More foreshadowing: Connor rocking the baby and talking to Wilhelmina about running away together as a family to a tropical location.

I love how much YETI there is these days, and Bernadette Peters is cracking me up. She informs her class that Tina Brown would not be the special presenter because the night before, drinks may have been had and "somebody's husband may or may not have grabbed someone's boob."

Instead the class gets an accounting and budget homework. Uh, woohoo! Marc and Betty don't really understand numbers but "Sports Guy" Matt chimes in that he has an MBA. And half a law degree!

So Matt totally hits on Betty in front of Marc, which is hysterical. I love when Marc chimes in with "Smooth!" after Matt asks Betty out with a line about grabbing drinks and talking budgets. Sexy!

Also, later, Marc uses some dog-show metaphor about how Matt's a dog and Betty's a chihuahua and they're going to mate or something.

Betty's just now getting into Facebook - is she 80 years old? Anyway, she finds out that Henry has a new girlfriend and can't decide whether to be his Facebook friend or not. Seriously, she talks about Facebook the way my great-aunt would.

Poor Matt - Betty spends the whole night on their little date talking about Henry. But he still likes her afterward, even when she ditches him with the bill.

Maybe he likes her because of her great Eve impression. And how funny is Matt's Wall-E? Aw.

In nonromantic news, Betty spots a big discrepancy in the Mode budget (millions of dollars are missing) and from there the show speeds up into shady territory.

All signs eventually point to Connor, who is stealing money from the company. After a super-creepy elevator showdown with Connor, Betty tells Daniel and they try to figure out what to do (Daniel: "I've never been embezzled from before!")

And then Willi gets involved and everyone thinks she's stealing too (even Marc!), but she chooses good over evil (or in her words, career over love) by calling the cops - and still, Connor manages to avoid the law.

So everyone is super depressed and there's sad music in the background and Willi's told Betty yet again that so-called "career girls" can't have it all . . .

. . . and then we get Molly's news. Man, it's so sad and comes right when Daniel is feeling pretty low too (what with the no money and stuff). She has cancer, she's had it before, and now it's back and she needs to be with her family.

It's a bit of a bummer of an episode, but it's full of good stuff - especially with Mode plotlines being back in the spotlight where they belong. Did you find Connor's evilness jarring or expected? And do you think Betty and Matt are as cute together as I do?

Photos copyright 2009 ABC, Inc.

TV Tonight: Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty's had some rough patches lately, so I was thrilled that last week's episode felt like a return to form. The show gave us drama, over-the-top fashion, and the most ridiculous birth scene I've ever seen on television - in other words, exactly what I want Betty to be.

This week's episode is ominously titled "Things Fall Apart," but I know at least one good thing is carrying over from last week: Betty gets another YETI storyline. This time, she's assigned to study the Mode budget, and it appears that she turns up some disturbing info about the magazine's finances. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina tries to adjust to life with her baby, and Betty gets some news about Henry thanks to her new Facebook page. And will we find out what's going on with Molly? It seems like she's hiding something disturbing from Daniel.

The rest of ABC's lineup is in repeats tonight, so why not check in and see if Betty can keep the momentum going? To watch a couple of preview clips, just read more.

Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode 15, "There's No Place Like Mode"

I've never had much inclination to attend a show at Fashion Week in New York (I leave that up to my best buds Fab and Bella), but if all fashion shows were like the one on this week's Ugly Betty, I'd fight for a front-row seat each and every time. Between one of my favorite scripted-drama scenes of the year so far in terms of sheer pageantry and a nonannoying Betty and a nonannoying Betty's family - people, I think Ugly Betty's got its groove back! At least for the moment. So let's chat about it before someone (probably Molly) makes us all feel weird about the show again. Just read more.

The episode opens at YETI, which is great because it means we're getting back to Betty's professional life and away from the family drama. A student is giving a serious presentation about a topical issue, to which Marc complains, "All right, we get it - Darfur's a bummer, but who wants those images in their head?"

He wasn't the only one with a somewhat crass take on "serious issues" - Betty also laments that "Fashion Week isn't nearly as fun as genocide week."

Betty gets paired with "Sports Guy" for the rest of the year at YETI, and he's cute in a Josh Grobany way, don't you think? He's so nice, too.

Betty gets really snotty about Fashion Week (you'd think she'd be less snooty about the industry now that she's been in it for a long time) and asks Daniel for a nonfashion assignment. I really love his reaction: "It's Fashion Week at a fashion magazine."

One of the best parts of the Heinrich story is his insistence that he and Betty "make love now." Ha! And each time she sort of says, "Um, no."

Sports guy (Matt) turns in the wrong press release, in which Betty makes fun of Heinrich's fashions, but as it turns out, that makes the press release seem totally not cliche and he wants Betty to produce his show! She sort of shies away from the responsibility, which is a little out of character.

Later, when Betty finally stops treating Matt like dog poo and follows him around on his job, she's totally weirded out when she is in the locker room with naked pro athletes. Hello? Carpe diem, Betty! I would have been more than happy to hang out in the locker room with fit, shirtless athletes. If anything it makes for a great story later.

Back at home, Hilda is still getting used to the idea of Elena dating her dad. I have to say, their PDA is a little much.

Oh, and Justin really wants that extra ticket to the Mode fashion show and blackmails Betty with "I'll tell everyone you still like Ricky Martin!" Ha!

Molly's attending Fashion Week as Daniel's date, and the tabloids slam her fashion sense. The poor thing. The best part of that plot is that we get a Molly makeover montage! Do you think she looked much better afterward?

Over in Connor and Willi-land - somehow by dating Connor, Willi no longer is on top of the fashion-industry food chain. I honestly don't understand how this correlates. She goes on to complain that she thought she could have it all. Ugh.

I loved, loved when Willi told Connor that the whole "baby in the corner" reference is really tired here in the USA. Thank you!

So everything converges at the fashion show in the most amazing way ever! Those costumes! The barbed wire on Betty's head! Christina giving birth on the runway! Willi holding the baby up in the air as Marc cues the lights and confetti! It was a sight to behold.

What do you guys think of the new boy in Betty's life? Are you so glad this baby was finally born? And what's wrong with Molly? Is she dying?
