Cameron Diaz Heads West For a Star-Studded CinemaCon Bash

Cameron Diaz wore Rachel Roy in Las Vegas last night for a star-studded CinemaCon event. She was on hand to honor DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg at the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation dinner and mingled with other celebs like Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas, Jack Black, and Brooklyn Decker. Cameron's off in Nevada after a stint in NYC, where she attended a benefit Monday to raise funds for science labs in urban schools.

All the traveling has allowed Cameron to catch up with her pals. Her former jet-setting companion, ex-boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, hasn't been accompanying her since their split. Alex did, though, share kinds words about Cameron recently. Alex Rodriguez gushed about Cameron, saying, "I don't like talking about my relationships. But I will tell you about CD: She's probably one of the greatest human beings I've ever met, and just an amazing light."

News that Martin Scorsese is in talks to direct a film adaptation of the novel The Snowman got me excited; I love hearing about anything that Scorsese has lined up, because he's such a consistently amazing director. Even if he makes a film I don't love, I still appreciate the legendary filmmaker's distinctive style. Scorsese is only one of my favorite directors, though; I've been a huge fan of David Fincher ever since I first saw The Game and Fight Club.

On the other end of the spectrum, I will see anything that French helmer Michel Gondry has his hands in, due to the magical nature of films like The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just as we have certain actors whose films we'll always be in line to see, we also tend to gravitate toward the work of the person behind the scenes. So, tell me: who is your favorite director?

Martin Scorsese Calls His Emmy Win "Something I Never Really Dreamed Of"

Boardwalk Empire may not have won any Emmys for its actors, but Martin Scorsese scored a directing nod for his work on the HBO drama. The legendary filmmaker came by the press room to chat, and he talked about the series, why he likes working in television, and his first family-friendly film.

On winning an Emmy: "I was extremely nervous, and I must say it is something I never really dreamed of. It's a different medium in a way. We approach Boardwalk Empire as a film - a very long film, but a film. It's just as exciting; it's quite extraordinary."
On why he likes using television to tell stories: "That's the excitement. I've always dreamed of getting involved with a project where characters could develop over time, almost like the way Victorian novels were written: they were serialized. Dickens wrote that way, many did. You can develop character, plot, and storyline, give it the history you need if you want, and get actually more done and said over a longer period of time. It gives you more license, and it gives you much more freedom really."
On whether he'll come back to direct Boardwalk Empire: "I'm really trying, yes. [But] we're mixing now a film called Hugo, based on the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick, and that's my first film that's for the entire family. In 3D. Real 3D."
On why people are fascinated by Nucky's story: "It goes back to a fascination that America has with that story. The idea of the rise but also the fall. You want to see the fall. . . . You're fascinated by the rise, but you want to see them pay for it. You want to see how it could all come apart. In many some cases, some get away, and some keep it together."

Leonardo DiCaprio to Become The Gambler For Martin Scorsese

Leonardo DiCaprio is about to roll the dice on a new project. DiCaprio will star in the remake of The Gambler, which will be directed by Martin Scorsese. DiCaprio will play the title character, Axel Freed, a man with a debilitating gambling addiction that propels his life into a dark place (James Caan originated the role in 1974). The Gambler remake will be something of a Departed reunion; not only are DiCaprio and Scorsese working together for the fifth time, but they'll reteam with screenwriter William Monahan (who won an Oscar for the 2004 drama).

Forget what you think you know about Martin Scorsese movies, because the acclaimed director has gone in a completely different direction for his next release, Hugo. Based on the novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Scorsese takes us on an adventure, told through the eyes of a young orphan (Asa Butterfield) living in a train station in Paris. When he meets a young friend (Chloe Moretz), they team up to discover a world of magic and whimsy.

The trailer is absolutely gorgeous, and suffice it to say that it took my breath away. Sacha Baron Cohen seems perfectly cast as a villainous station inspector, while Jude Law appears briefly as Hugo's loving father. Though most of Scorsese's trademarks (Leonardo DiCaprio, gratuitous violence) are missing here, his impeccable style and talent shine through. The must-see movie hits theaters this Thanksgiving, but check it out when you
