First Look: Martin Freeman in The Hobbit!

The first installment of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit won't arrive until December 2012, but here's an exciting treat for fans: the first official photos from the movie! In this prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) sets out on a quest to retrieve a treasure guarded by a dragon. He's joined by a crew of dwarves (and Gandalf!), and you can get a glimpse of Bilbo's dinner party in the photo below.

And The Hobbit gets its Bilbo! Martin Freeman - best known as Tim from the British version of The Office - has been cast as Bilbo Baggins. This announcement follows a logical procession, since it was just confirmed that The Hobbit had been greenlit and would definitely be two movies. Joining Freeman are actors Richard Armitage, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Stephen Hunter, Mark Hadlow, and Peter Hambleton.

As for Freeman, when I asked you guys a few months back who should take the role of Bilbo, many of you commented that he was perfect for the part. As a British Office fan, I'm excited for his big break, not to mention that Freeman certainly looks like a hobbit - and I mean that in the best way possible.

Emily Blunt Hits the Mark in This Trailer For Wild Target

Shout-out to PopSugar UK, because I'm counting this as yet another reason to love the Brits (right behind the original version of The Office and Cat Deeley). May I present the trailer for Wild Target, a new crime caper starring a very talented English cast, including Emily Blunt, Bill Nighy, Rupert Grint, Rupert Everett, and Martin Freeman.

The story follows a hitman (Nighy) hired to take out a gorgeous conwoman (Blunt) - until he gets swept up in her antics and switches sides. Everett plays Nighy's mob client, Freeman is the guy who takes over the assignment, and Grint is a mentee of sorts who joins Nighy and Blunt on their bumbling journey. Got all that?

I love a good cat-and-mouse game, especially one that looks as charming as this (and hey, Ron Weasley fans, he's shirtless - if you're into that sort of thing). Cute Movie Duo: Mandy Moore and the UK Office's Tim

They played exes in Dedication, but this time we'll get to see Mandy Moore and Martin Freeman playing a real married couple in the romantic comedy Swinging With the Finkels. All we know so far is that the two will be joined by Jonathan Silverman and Melissa George, who are playing another husband-and-wife team. And Jerry Stiller will also be in the film. The movie is being developed from writer/director Jonathan Newman's short film Sex With the Finkels, which debuted on the website Filmaka.

Martin Freeman will probably always be Tim (the precursor to Jim) on the original UK series The Office, a role that he made completely adorable. And Moore is just so cute, too. It will be funny to see these two, I'm guessing, deal with the idea of being a swinging couple. Cute and a little weird, probably.

First Look: Mandy Moore, Billy Crudup in Dedication

There hasn't been much of a publicity push for Dedication, a strange little indie romantic dramedy starring Mandy Moore and Billy Crudup, which can sometimes be a very good sign. After all, the last two movies I saw with Moore in them (Because I Said So, License to Wed) enjoyed major marketing pushes and then turned out to be some of the year's most embarrassing disappointments. For Moore's sake, I hope Dedication is a quality movie so we can see that it's not the actress that was the problem - it was the material.

Crudup plays Henry Roth, a peculiar, misanthropic and slightly unstable man who requires certain things (like sleeping with heavy objects resting on his body) to feel safe. Henry writes children's books that inform children of Santa Claus' nonexistence. When his best friend and book illustrator dies, Henry is paired with a new illustrator, the young, pretty Lucy (Moore), who possesses a quirkiness of her own. The two struggle to get along, and surely a kind of love starts to bloom between them. Amy Sedaris and Martin Freeman (the original Tim from the BBC "Office"!) also star. Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise Bring Their Best Spring Looks to Baton Rouge

Katie Holmes and Suri stepped out in Baton Rouge with Katie's parents Kathleen and Martin yesterday. Suri was ready for Spring in a polka-dot dress from CrewCuts by J.Crew while Katie went with a floral look. Last week, the girls wrapped up their time in NYC and headed to Louisiana, where Tom Cruise is filming Oblivion. He's starring opposite Melissa Leo and Morgan Freeman in the futuristic thriller, which is his next project after reportedly dropping out of the lead role in Nathan Decker. Tom also has Rock of Ages and One Shot coming out this year, but first his most recent Mission: Impossible effort, Ghost Protocol, will be released on DVD April 17.

Announcing the 2012 Golden Globe Winners!

And so we have another Golden Globes under our belt! This year's show brought a new round of quips from host Ricky Gervais, a dedication to Morgan Freeman, and a ton of statuettes honoring 2011's finest in film and on TV. There were a few repeats from the Critics' Choice winners: George Clooney, Octavia Spencer, and Christopher Plummer all picked up two trophies this week. On the other hand, Meryl Streep and The Descendants both won big for the first time this week, proving that it's anybody's game at the SAGs and Oscars.

On the TV side of things, new series Homeland was crowned best TV drama, while its star Claire Danes picked up the statuette for best lead actress. Newbies Matt LeBlanc and Laura Dern also took home awards, while Modern Family earned its first ever Golden Globe.

Michelle and George Take Home Big Wins at the Star-Studded Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais was back, and as irreverent as ever, as the host of the 2012 Golden Globes. He kicked off the proceedings by pointing jabs at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, saying that the Globes are "just like the Oscars, but with less esteem." Celeb cameos started on a high note with an appearance from Johnny Depp, and early supporting honors went to Christopher Plummer for Beginners. Shortly after, Madonna unexpectedly was the winner in the best original score category for W.E. Michelle Williams won in the best actress in a musical or comedy category for My Week With Marilyn, making her BFF and date Busy Philipps one happy lady! Sweetly, Michelle thanked her daughter Matilda, saying, "I'm a mother first, and an actress second."

Further movie accolades went to Woody Allen, for his Midnight in Paris screenplay, and best supporting actress, Octavia Spencer for The Help. Iran's A Separation took home the best foreign film distinction over Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey, and Morgan Freeman made a touching speech accepting his Cecil B. DeMille prize. Angelina Jolie took the stage to present Martin Scorsese with the best directing statue for Hugo. Best actor in a musical or comedy went to Jean Dujardin for The Artist, and a very dapper Colin Firth handed off the best actress in a drama honor to Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady. Natalie Portman had the enviable task of bestowing best actor on George Clooney for The Descendants, and gave girlfriend Stacy Keibler a celebratory peck on the cheek en route to the podium. The Artist was crowned best motion picture, musical or comedy, and the final best drama award went to Alexander Payne's The Descendants.

In the TV realm, Lauren Dern scored a best actress upset for Enlightened over Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Zooey Deschanel. Julianne Moore and Rob Lowe overcame some technical difficulties to announce the miniseries or TV movie winners. Downton Abbey was crowned best miniseries after picking up an Emmy for the same category a couple months ago. Kate Winslet won for her turn in Mildred Pierce, and she showed some PDA with boyfriend Ned Rocknroll before taking the stage! Peter Dinklage won corresponding honors for Game of Thrones. Kelsey Grammer won best actor in a TV drama for his new series Boss, while another show in its first season, Homeland, picked up best drama. Claire Danes was a big winner as best actress in a TV drama for Homeland, and one of the evening's most surprising statues went to best actor in a TV comedy, Matt LeBlanc, for Episodes! It's Time to Return to Middle Earth With The Hobbit Trailer!

Christmas isn't even here yet, but we already have a 2012 holiday treat to look forward to in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Though that's 12 months off, the good news is that we have the first trailer right here! If you're expecting something of the same caliber as The Two Towers, you might be a little disappointed; this preview is low on action and high on introduction and backstory. We meet young Bilbo (Martin Freeman), who is just trying to live his hobbit life in Bag End when he's rudely interrupted by an adventure-seeking Gandalf (Ian McKellen). What follows is a quick introduction to his long list of travel companions, and then a brief glimpse at what's in store in the first part of the adventure.

As excited as I am for this movie, I can't help but feel a teensy bit underwhelmed by this trailer. The production value looks amazing of course, but I was hoping the preview would incite a little more excitement. That said, we've got a whole year to build up the hype, so in the meantime, watch the trailer after the jump.

A Day in the Life of Andrew Freeman

The third annual SF Chefs, San Francisco's very own food festival, is taking place this weekend. We caught up with the mastermind behind SF Chefs, Andrew Freeman. Here's what the public relations authority did yesterday, Thursday, Aug. 4.

6:30 a.m.: I woke up and I have two little Yorkie princesses, Daisy and Tulep, so I had to take them out. We went for our morning walk and got our heads together about what was coming in the day ahead. I went back home and got them ready to be shipped to the dog sitter for the weekend.

9 a.m.: I got to the office and started making conference calls. I checked in with festival clients and was making sure everyone's ready for the big day.

10 a.m.: There was a walk through at the tents in Union Square. The key players were there: Dominic Phillips, the GGRA [Golden Gate Restaurant Association], all my team. Everyone has been absolutely incredible to work with! We walked around and went through where the ribbon cutting ceremony was happening. Basically where everything that is going to be going on for the weekend, we went over.

11:30 a.m.: I raced back to the office to do a conference call with Martin Yan and his team about the opening of his restaurant in early 2012.
