Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Tons of Funny People Line Up For Hand Job

What if NBC's Thursday night comedy block had a baby with Saturday Night Live? You'd get the movie Hand Job, a comedy written and directed by Bill Hader's wife, Maggie Carey, that's quickly assembling a cast that includes so many of my favorite funny people. Community's Donald Glover and Andy Samberg have just signed on to appear in the movie, along with Hader and Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza, who has the lead role.

Plaza plays a Type A high school senior who worries that she hasn't had enough sexual experience before going away to college, so she sets out to get some (pardon the pun). Also lending support to an already amazing cast are Alia Shawkat, Connie Britton, and Plaza's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World costars Mae Whitman and Johnny Simmons. I'm already totally seduced by the idea of this movie, in part because it's usually guys who are trying to pawn off their virginities (e.g. Superbad). My only qualm: can Plaza, who usually shines as a supporting character, handle a leading role?

Seeing as how I'm making wish lists for the new year, I'd like to make one more small request: Dear Hollywood, please cast these actors! Though they may not be on the A-list just yet, in 2010 they turned in charming, memorable performances on TV and in film. Some have been slowly gaining notice on the Hollywood scene for years, while others are newer breakout stars - all I know is, I want to see more of 'em! Keep reading to find out who tops my list.

Before they were rivals in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Michael Cera and Mae Whitman were romantic interests on Arrested Development. As George Michael and Ann Veal, Cera and Whitman were young, apple-cheeked teens in love . . . a far cry from Scott Pilgrim and Roxy Richter, who only want to decimate each other. Watch this clip from the series, and try not to get too nostalgic for the hilarious Fox show - or too eager for the much-anticipated movie version.

Lots of funny people hit the red carpet in LA last night for the premiere of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman posed for photos solo, and Anna Kendrick turned a few heads in her strapless gown and high heels. Parenthood's Mae Whitman skipped the Summer TCAs in order to promote her big-screen project. Her TV costars, though, treated Buzz to a sneak peek at what's to come next season. Anna, Michael, and Jason were happy to keep showing off their film after spending last weekend together at Comic-Con, where she spoke about life on the set and Mr. Cera dressing like a superhero ranked among Buzz's favorite moments from the convention.

Meet the 7 Evil Exes From Scott Pilgrim vs. the World!

By the looks of the trailers for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, it's not necessarily the world that Scott Pilgrim (aka Michael Cera) is up against. His opponents in the August movie are the ex-boyfriends (and one ex-girlfriend) of his new love, Ramona Flowers. Not only do these exes each boast a terrifying super power, but they're also portrayed by familiar faces (that's Jason Schwartzman and Chris Evans right there!). Check out the new posters promoting the flick and get acquainted with the seven evil exes. Oh, and if you're missing main man Michael Cera, get a load of him in my boys of Summer blockbusters video!

Peter Krause, Maura Tierney to Play Siblings in Parenthood

Meet the Bravermans: Peter Krause and Maura Tierney have signed on for starring roles in NBC's TV remake of Parenthood, playing new versions of the characters made famous by Steve Martin and Dianne Wiest.

They join Dax Shepard, Craig T. Nelson, Mae Whitman (who?), and the previously cast Erika Christensen as the potential members of the sprawling Braverman clan. Here's a quick breakdown of the who's-who so far:

Krause will play Adam Braverman, "a married man with two children who is a lunatic beneath the surface."
Tierney will play his sister Sarah, the single mother of . . .
. . . Whitman's character, a rebellious 16-year-old.
Shepard's character is the youngest Braverman, a slacker.
Christensen is their sister Julia, a corporate attorney.
And Nelson will play the clan's father, "a Vietnam vet-turned-actor/hippie."

I was a little skeptical of this project at first, just because a TV adaptation of Parenthood failed once before, but I'm starting to get a kick out of this cast. I'll give anything with Krause a try at least once, so I'm starting to hope that this one makes it through pilot season and onto our TVs. What about you?

Ann Veal Lands A Job!

"Her?" Yes, her! Mae Whitman, previously known (to me) as Ann Veal on Arrested Development will be joining one of Rob Thomas' many upcoming projects. The ABC pilot, Good Behavior will be an American version of the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune. The show follows "the mother of a family of criminals, who decides to take the family down the straight and narrow path after her husband is jailed."

Whitman has been cast as one of the children in the family, the teenage daughter "who's extorting her principal and running a hall-pass scam at her school."

This is fantastic. I'm already going to watch this show. And now it leaves the other daughter role of the wannabe model named Pascalle to - maybe just maybe - Kristen Bell. How funny would it be to have Veronica Mars and Ann Veal be sisters? Fingers crossed!
