Love It or Leave It: Theron, Basinger in The Burning Plain

The Burning Plain is described as "a drama with a two-tiered storyline concerning a mother (Kim Basinger) and daughter (Charlize Theron) who try to form a bond after the young woman's difficult childhood," and the new trailer for the Sept. 18 release certainly includes plenty of drama. Drama, drama, drama. There appear to be some criss-crossing love affairs and lots of mother-daughter angst.

On the one hand, the movie was written and directed by Babel's Guillermo Arriaga and there seems to be plenty of dark, slow-boiling tension throughout. Having said that, though, I had to remind myself to pay attention to the trailer, as I found my mind wandering.

How do you think The Burning Plain looks? Promising? Or not so much?

Love It or Leave It: TV on the Radio Covering Bowie's "Heroes"

Normally, I'm nowhere near as fond of a cover as I am of the original song (few people are, I'd wager). Usually they just sound like cheap knockoffs. So I expected little of TV on the Radio's cover of David Bowie's "Heroes," and maybe that's partially why I liked it so much. It's different from Bowie's but familiar enough to not destroy the memory of the original. Also, I'm intrigued by the fact that Bowie himself chose both the band and the song of his that they should cover for the title track of this benefit album of covers.

Take a listen and tell me: Do you dig it? Or not so much?

David Cook's first single has hit the Web, and I'm still sorting out how I feel about it. Is it too Creed-ish? Or is it exactly what you hoped to hear from the American Idol winner?

"Light On" premiered on Popeater on Tuesday, will hit iTunes on Sept. 30, and will be the first single from his still-untitled first album that will be released Nov. 18. Take a listen to "Light On" (don't let the eyeliner in the video scare you) and then vote!

Love It or Leave It: Hole in the Wall

When Fox's Hole in the Wall was first announced, I did my fair share of making fun of it. People dressed in spandex attempting to fit through little spaces? We're really going to use up valuable television space on that?

And then, well, the first promo aired. And I laughed really hard. It's not that I suddenly thought that it was going to be a quality show, but it would be fun to watch once. Or if I was sick on the couch. Or if I just needed something in the background when I was getting ready to do stuff . . .

Hole in the Wall officially premieres tonight, though two special preview episodes have already aired. Have you seen the previews? If you have, is it worth it? If not, check out the clip below and tell me if you think this is a show to love or leave.

Love it or Leave It: Jessica Simpson's Duet with Dolly

Jessica Simpson's gone country, y'all! As her debut country album careens toward a record store near you (check it out officially Sept. 9), we've heard some previews already - but now here's our first listen to Simpson's duet with Dolly Parton on the album's title track, "Do You Know?"

There is no question how deep my love for Dolly runs, and in my opinion, her small parts on this duet outshine Simpson's vocals by about a mile. And as Idolator points out, if you listen to the lyrics closely, you realize they're singing about some pretty sexy times to each other, so that's a strange visual. Anyway, let's put it to a vote!

Love It or Leave It: Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page Close the Olympics

Led Zeppelin alum Jimmy Page got together with British singing sensation Leona Lewis at the Olympics closing ceremony to perform a duet of "Whole Lotta Love."

There's a whole lotta think about here, like what an odd pairing this seems to be at first glance, and the fact that Leona is on stilts. When I hear her voice I think, "Pretty!" but then I'm confused because I wouldn't expect to hear those kind of vocal loopdee-loos in this song. So, let's put it to a vote!

Love It or Leave It: "Sweet Foxy Jane" by Tony Lucca

The name Tony Lucca may ring a bell for you, as it did for me because I was a pretty big fan of The Mickey Mouse Club when I was a kid. Lucca may have been on my secret list of mouseketeers to make my boyfriend one day (turns out I'm not alone). Ahem! Anyway, that's the hook that got my attention but all these years later it's his music that has the adult-me impressed.

Like his fellow Mouse Club alumni, Lucca has been forging ahead in the entertainment biz for some time now and has settled into a genre of music that is reminiscent of '60s folk, and reminds me of current artists like James Morrison.

I got a hold of a new track from his upcoming album Come Around Again called "Sweet Foxy Jane" and I really like it. It's upbeat but bluesy and makes me think of drinking whiskey. But I'll let you tell me what you think; take a listen and vote.

Love It or Leave It: Devendra Banhart Video With Natalie Portman

Before being known to most as Natalie Portman's boyfriend, Devendra Banhart was famous in certain circles for turning out interesting neo-folk music and has been a mainstay in the independent music scene for a little while now.

His new video for his Spanish language song "Carmensita," has people talking partly because Ms. Portman's in it but also because some people aren't sure how awesome this cheeky swipe at Bollywood-style productions is. Do you find this video a fun rush to the senses, or totally forgettable?

Love It or Leave It: The Cure's "The Only One"

"The Only One" is the first of four tracks we'll get from The Cure's next album before its September release, and it's pretty catchy. I just love that The Cure is still at it, going strong with their signature sounds. I also find that I grow fonder of this song with repeated listens.

The song has been around for a while, apparently, but I'm just hearing it now, and the black-and-white video for "The Only One" is new. Check it out and tell me what you think.
