Fab Con: Lou Doillon

Lou Doillon has been described as the "French Kate Moss" and indeed there are many comparison points. They both like to party, they both have turned their hand to fashion design, and they are both models. But for me, this is where the comparison ends because Lou's style is far quirkier and much more intriguing.

Paris is known as a city of style and elegance and Lou is arguably one of the most stylish women there. She gets a front row seat at most fashion shows and even has her own denim diffusion line with Lee Cooper.

She is, of course, the daughter of Jane Birkin and Jacques Doillon with Serge Gainsbourg as her step father which already suggests bohemian cool. Lou mixes labels and vintage and is often spotted sporting a top hat. She told Observer Woman, "I'm very lucky that I come from a very beautiful family. Everyone was so beautiful, stylish and serious in our house when I was growing up."

She also confessed that she thinks her fun style comes from being half-French, half-English. "In England you laugh at yourselves, in France we laugh at others. I still keep a sense of humour about my style. I had a laughing fit when I was modelling on the Missoni catwalk."

She went on to explain her style motto which is: "It's better not to look your best so that people can imagine that the best is really much better."

Her style icons include Jeanne Moreau in 'Jules et Jim', Audrey Hepburn, a young Brigitte Bardot and Kate Moss which I think you'll agree is quite an eclectic selection. She also explains that the next generation of her family are quite stylish too. "My six-year-old son is my real style icon. He likes to have fun with fashion, especially wearing his Dad's clothes."

I think that she has a fearless approach to style which works well for her. She looks great when she is dressed up (like in Cannes earlier this year) but she is also looks great when her hair is messy and she's a bit more casual. She explained how she achieves that messy hair look, "My Mother taught me to wash my hair as little as possible, and to rinse it with Coke."

Ooh La La – Celebs Seek Parisian Chic!

Stylish city Paris got a fashion injection this week as Fashion Week took over the city, with celebs and fashionistas descending on the French capital. Liv Tyler and Eva Mendes represented Hollywood, taking in several gorgeous shows over the week, Janet Jackson also visited the city in a whirlwind and – flying the flag for us Brits – was the awesome Helen Mirren, and Alexa Chung who looked amazing at the Chanel show. Lesser known singer/model Micky Green gets my pick for looking cool in her funky monochrome look, and French natives Lou Doillon and Charlotte Gainsbourg looked stylish as usual in their laid back and more formal get-ups.

Patricia Arquette's mind wasn't wholly on fashion, as she started talking about the children's book she's writing, and the intriguing film Boyhood – a 12-year-long project by director Richard Linklater:

"We shoot for a week each year. It's about kids growing up. They age on film and so do I."

I think that sounds totally fascinating, but I guess I'll have to wait a while to see it!

Divine Dresses At D&G Do

This weekend saw more Cannes activity, including a fabulous Dolce & Gabbana party that saw familiar and new celebs to the Film Festival walking the swirly carpet to be photographed. Lindsay Lohan had reporters buzzing after showing up wearing a sparkler on her engagement finger, Rose McGowan had to accessorise with her large plastercast after she broke her leg, and the host duo showed up with Cannes birthday girl Naomi "Don't call me a supermodel" Campbell.

Kate Hudson looked stunning in a white mini-dress and was apparently cosying up to her photographer-shy man Lance Armstrong all evening, Natalie Portman and her man Devendra Banhart also showed up, posing separately, but Devendra showed just how happy he was to be there by having a pre-party groove in front of photographers. Ah, love!

Things Are Heating Up in Cannes With Lindsay and Kate

Dolce and Gabbana threw a party at Baoli, Port Canto during the Cannes Film Festival this weekend, and things must have gotten hotter because the dresses keep getting shorter. Lindsay Lohan looked spectacular in a short mini green dress and a beautiful sparkler on her finger. Hmmm, could it be a gift from one of her many suitors? Also looking happier than ever was Kate Hudson in her LWD. No sign of Lance but apparently he was there, and the new couple were spotted dancing and kissing. Cannes juror Natalie Portman continued to look cute, and we still have a soft spot for Scott Speedman, who posed with his co-star Rachel Blanchard.

Mischa and Milla Do Fashion Week 80s Style

Mischa Barton and Milla Jovovich mugged for the camera at the Lou Doillon Party for Lee Cooper in Paris yesterday before hitting up the Miu Miu show today as part of Paris Fashion Week. Don't both girls look 80s-tastic with their off-the-shoulder and brightly colored outfits? And doesn't Mischa just look thrilled to be there? Smile! Milla may be partying it up fashion-style overseas but back in the states it was a big weekend - her Jovovich-Hawk line for Target officially hit stores.
