The "Lost" Dharma Video From Comic-Con, Plus the "Lost" Video Game

In her awesome coverage of this year's Comic-Con, Team member Phasekitty described a new Dharma video that screened during the "Lost" presentation, and it sounded spooky. Now that it's available online, I'm not sure what to make of it.

The guy presenting the film is Dr. Marvin Candle, who has usually been featured in the Dharma orientation films, though he introduces himself using a different name: Dr. Edgar Halowax. It seems like Halowax/Candle was in a similar situation to that of Juliet, since he snaps at the people behind the camera about having to wear makeup when he's a scientist, making me wonder if he's on the island somewhat against his will. Then there are the bunnies with the number 15 printed on their fur that all the people in the room seem to fear. And creepily flashing in between takes with Halowax/Candle are the words "God loves you like he loved Jacob" (the same words were flashed during Carl's brainwashing session), along with other various images that don't seem to go with the doctor's orientation speech for the Orchid Station.

Halowax/Candle also starts to explain that "the unique properties of the island" cause a kind of "Casimir effect," though he's quickly cut off just as he's about to say what this allows them to do. Wikipedia describes the Casimir effect as "a physical force exerted between separate objects, which is due to neither charge, gravity, nor the exchange of particles, but instead is due to resonance of all-pervasive energy fields in the intervening space between the objects." So... there's that.

5 Geeky Alternatives to Watching the Super Bowl This Sunday

Get into a new show - If you're not a football fan at all, you might consider catching up on a new TV show. Might I recommend the geek-friendly Sherlock on BBC? The entire first season is on Netflix right now. You won't regret it.
Play a board game - Get lost in a geeky board game like Scene It? Star Trek Deluxe Edition with fellow Trekkies.
Visit a museum - Pass the time at your local science museum or planetarium for a celestial show.
Get hot and heavy in the kitchen - Instead of ordering pizza and hot wings, cook up something from one of these geeky cookbooks with recipes inspired by superheroes, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

Pirate Rock! Disney's Sharky and Bones Open Up About Pirate Culture, Jake, and Peter Pan

Can you talk like a pirate? If your lil one is between 2 and 5 years old, chances are he'll know exactly what we're talking about!

Since its launch last February, Disney's Jake and the Neverland Pirates has become the top-ranking series among kids in that age group. The animated show - about a new crew of pirates who work together to outwit Captain Hook and Smee around Pirate Island - is about to embark on its second season with a prime-time special Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns (airing Feb. 13), where the little boy who won't grow up enlists the minipirates to help him find his lost shadow. As with the daily show, the special will feature original pirate rock songs written and sung by Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band. I spoke with Loren Hoskins and Kevin Hendrickson, the men behind Sharky and Bones and the stars of the live-action music videos featured at the end of each episode, about the popularity of pirate culture and what it can teach tots today.

LilSugar: Obviously you two are well versed in little kids' obsessions with pirates. How did it start for you two?
Kevin Hendrickson (Bones): It started before our kids. Loren and I met maybe 12 years ago, and we both just had a love of pirates and the old Disney records we grew up listening to. We decided to make a pirate album for kids, even though we didn't have kids.
Loren Hoskins (Sharky): We were pirates before pirate was cool. We had an affinity for pirate and pirate culture and the old Disneyland rides - you know the old Pirates of the Caribbean attraction - and we combined all those into a rock album for kids of all ages. We say "for buccaneers of all ages" because we had a lot of fans that were not kids and a lot of fans that were kids and then families that were fans. We just decided to not be a children's band, but a band for all buccaneers!

LilSugar: It's been almost 60 years since Disney released Peter Pan, and unlike other Disney flicks, it hasn't received a rerelease or a 3D upgrade. Why do you think the pirate obsession remains so strong today?
Loren Hoskins (Sharky): I have always maintained that what pirates represent for play is all the best things about play. That's imagination, adventure, being bold-hearted, silly voices, and fun dress-up costumes. You put all that together and you get classic kid play. It's like pirates and dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were huge for a while, and I think for the same reason – you can just go "roaar," and play all these great games, and they were bold and adventurous and from exotic locations. Pirates are the same thing. They're one of those classic play building blocks

Announcing the 2012 SAG Awards Nominees

The 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations are out this morning, and we're bringing you all the action - watch our streaming video of the SAG Awards announcement, which we're replaying all morning long. Judy Greer and Regina King were up bright and early in LA to do the honors, a few of which went to Judy's movie The Descendants. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Leonardo DiCaprio are once again up against each other in the lead actor category, which should make for a fun race, though we were disappointed to see Ryan Gosling's name left off the list. Bridesmaids continues to rake in the early award-season love as well, with the cast and Melissa McCarthy both scoring nods. The Screen Actors Guild Awards air live on Jan. 29 at 8/7c on TNT.

In the TV category, we're excited to see the love for Game of Thrones, which is up against perennial favorites including Dexter and Breaking Bad. Steve Carell also has at least one more chance to win for The Office, and with tomorrow's Golden Globes nominations announcement, we'll see if he's recognized again.

Real Steel: Real Predictable

When you sign up to watch a movie about boxing robots, chances are you want to see mechanical carnage, and plenty of it. In Real Steel, Hugh Jackman stars as Charlie, a man who makes his living piecing robots together and sending them to the ring, so the potential for spectacular robotic clashes is high. But when Charlie's estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) shows up on his doorstep, what you get instead is a predictable father-son story that's a swing and a miss.

The film is set in the not-too-distant future, when machines have taken over the role of boxers because humans are hungry for more gore. The premise is a bit hard to believe - how do bolts win over blood, and why would sports fans be more invested in a machine than a human? On that note, the film barely lets the audience begin to connect with the beat-up, underdog robot Max uncovers in a junkyard, paying more attention to the relationship between the boy and his dad. When Max just so happens to share his father's passion for robot boxing, the film establishes a convenient means for the pair to bond. Announcing the 2010 Emmy Winners!

This year's Emmys have come to a close, and I'm still surprised by some of the unexpected winners. The voters gave lots of love to new shows, with Modern Family winning the big award for outstanding comedy series (and a win for Eric Stonestreet!). It was also a night for repeat honorees, with the cast of Mad Men and Bryan Cranston both taking the stage for a third time.

Jimmy Fallon kicked things off with a fun musical number (watch it again here), and the night had several laugh-out-loud moments (George Clooney's Modern Family video cameo was a personal fave). I was in the press room throughout the night, so don't forget to check out what the stars had to say about winning, along with our Emmys coverage from across the Sugar network.
