Check It: Season Five Preview For Lost

Here we go: a preview for the next season of Lost, which starts up in February 2009. The first part of the preview is a montage of certain plot points we've learned in the past, setting us up for some new footage we can look forward to in season five. After the fourth season with all the Oceanic Six stuff, the next season appears to deal with those six going back to the island:

Jack: "Everyone we left behind, they'd die too if I didn't come back."
Ben: "Well, thank God for second chances."

Are You Satisfied With the Chuck Series Finale?

That's a wrap for Chuck, the funny, moving spy series that we loved for five seasons. The two-hour finale has the entire gang working on the two last missions - first, to destroy the Intersect once and for all, and the second is more emotional: to help Chuck get Sarah back after she lost most of her memories. In the end, everyone gets pretty close to a happy ending: Devon and Ellie wrestle with a fresh start in the Midwest, Morgan and Alex move in together, Jeff and Lester get a record deal (believe it) and Casey goes to see about a girl.

Things are a little bittersweet for Chuck and Sarah, since they don't pick up exactly where their love story left off before Sarah's memory was wiped, but their final kiss implies that they'll get there again someday. We also get a nostalgic montage of the best Chuck and Sarah moments, which felt emotionally satisfying in a different way. The final image of the spy couple on the beach gave me goose bumps, but I wanted to know how other fans felt about the finale. Weigh in now - are you happy with Chuck's series finale?

8 Ways to Motivate and Get Off Your Cold Weather Butt

I got chills. They're multiplying. But they're not of the Grease Lightening variety. It's getting cold (nearly 75 degrees in LA) and I'm starting to see visions of couches, heavy meals, hot chocolate and layered clothing (to hide the blubber!).

What? You need fat for warmth . . . supposedly.

Okay, fine. Better nip this cold weather slump in the bud before I settle down for a five-month Snuggie hibernation. Luckily, I have certified trainer and owner of new BIA Strong Body Studio Rebecca Black (not that Rebecca Black) to motivate me. And now so do you.

And Black knows a thing or two about weight loss. Not only does the Columbus, Ohio-based trainer help other people get in shape (while participating in bikini fitness competitions), but she also experienced her own weight loss transformation. "I lost about 40lbs," she explains. "But it took longer than it should have because I didn't know what I was doing and neither did my trainer."

As we all know, it's easy to fall into bad habits, especially as the winter months approach. "This is when people pack on the pounds, especially in the Midwest and on the East Coast," laments the trainer. "As soon as the temperature starts to drop, people become hermits: Instead of going to the gym, they watch TV. They're back to school and super busy. And it's football season, so there's tailgating. I even fall into that rut and I'm a trainer. If I don't want to get up at 5am and train people, why would my clients?"

Why You Might Feel Lousy When You Lose Weight

We are excited to share one of our fave stories from Shape here on FitSugar. This week Shape turns to Cynthia Sass, a registered dietitian with master's degrees in both nutrition science and public health.

I've had a private practice for a long time, so I've coached many people on their weight-loss journeys. Sometimes they feel fantastic as the pounds drop off, as though they're on top of the world and have energy through the roof. But some people struggle with what I call weight-loss backlash, the physiological and psychological side effects of weight loss that are powerful enough to make you feel downright miserable. Here are three you may encounter (do they sound familiar?) and how to get through the rough patch.

Toxin Release
According to research published in the International Journal of Obesity, environmental pollutants trapped in fat cells are released back into the bloodstream when you lose weight. The data collected from 1,099 adults looked at blood concentrations of six pollutants as people lost weight. Compared to those who reported gaining weight over a 10-year period, those who had lost significant pounds had 50-percent higher levels of pollutants in their blood. Scientists say the release of these chemicals as body fat is lost may account for feeling ill as you shrink your shape.
Advice:
This study highlights why it's particularly important to eat a "clean" diet that boosts immunity and optimizes health as you lose weight. In my experience, low-calorie diets comprised of processed foods or ultra-low carb diets that omit antioxidant rich fruits and whole grains can add to feelings of sluggishness or symptoms like headaches and irritability. My best advice is to eat on a regular schedule to give your body consistency, which plays a major role in regulating hormones, and focus on the quality of your food by building meals made from nutrient-rich balanced portions of veggies, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, plant-based fats, and antioxidant-rich seasonings.

Kirstie Alley's DWTS Weight Loss Tally: 38 Inches

Now that DWTS is over, everyone is, as usual, talking weight loss. This time the weight-loss winner is Kirstie Alley; earlier in the season, the actress claimed that she was a size four-six, the result of losing 60 pounds before the show (which she's said was due to diet supplements that she endorses).

To show off her success, Kirstie even wore the same dress on her final dance that she wore in the very first episode, tailored to fit her now that she lost the weight. "My dress is half the size it was when we started," she said - reportedly lost a total of 38 inches.

The actress, while she has yet to announce an official weight-loss figure while on the TV show, tweeted that she had lost over 10 pounds only about two weeks into the show. Some of that was the result of a 1,400-calorie diet even while working out five to seven hours a day. Not fueling your body enough during a grueling workout is the opposite of sustainable and healthy weight loss - you'll have no energy and lose muscle mass, and restricting calories can lead to a slower metabolic rate. Even Kirstie agreed; she said she was upping her calorie intake after falling and feeling dizzy from low blood-sugar earlier this month.

Jason Segel on Why Kermit Made Him Cry and Being an Onscreen Dad

Jason Segel's career is in full swing right now: not only is he heading into the seventh season of How I Met Your Mother, but his film career is also thriving, especially with his big Muppets movie arriving this November. We caught up with Segel at the TCA, where he talked about becoming an onscreen dad, crying over the Muppets, and what terrifies him.

On The Muppets movie: I'd written the script for four years, and we did a table reading, and they brought the puppets for the first time. And we're all just sitting at a table, and all of a sudden, they brought out Kermit. And he said the first line that we had written, and I lost my sh*t a little bit, and started crying at the table read. I had to awkwardly ask them to stop filming. It was emotional, he's been my favorite since I was a little kid. It was a good day.

On whether a baby will change the How I Met Your Mother dynamic: It doesn't feel stunt-y to me, it feels more like a natural progression. My character's been married for five years now. That's kind of what happens - you have a kid, that's what happens next. . . . I think one of the things that makes the show feel true is that we're not trying to create an artifice of what people want to see, we're trying to do very naturally what our age is going through.

On whether he'd want to host an awards show like costar Neil Patrick Harris: I think Neil is incredibly talented and built for that. Neil is a natural-made host. The idea of hosting anything terrifies me. I'm not that talented.

On HIMYM's staying power: Prior to this show, my experience in television had been failure. I had Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. And the thing about both those shows, is that I thought they were brilliant. So I removed the notion of success and longevity from quality. With that in mind, I didn't know what to expect. I went in trying to do the best job we could. The fact that now we're seven years in . . . it's longer than I've ever done anything. It's longer than any relationship I've had. It's longer than I went to any school. Sincerely, aside from my family, this is the longest I've known any group of people.

I don't have a distinction between television or movies or theater. I like to do things that make me scared. When I feel like, "I know I can do this," I lose interest. When I'm a little scared - and last year, they gave me father dying - and I had to do scenes of losing your father, I was scared to do them. And that was a very exciting feeling. That made me want to do the show forever. And one of the great things is that I think they recognize that in me, that I wanted to feel challenged. The True Blood Cast Reveals Season 4 Spoilers and More to the Comic-Con Crowd

True Blood hit the stage at Comic-Con, and lots of the cast showed up, including Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Rutina Wesley, Kevin Alejandro, Nelsan Ellis, Kristin Bauer, and Deborah Ann Woll, as well as creator Alan Ball. After letting us see some hot footage from the rest of season four (Eric and Sookie making out!), they dished on what we can expect on the show, and they answered tons of burning questions about the current storylines.

The funniest discussion to come out of the panel was over the outfit Eric's been wearing since he lost his memory, particularly, where it came from. Skarsgard surmised that the clothes are probably not Jason's, but might be something of Hoyt's that he once left behind. "It's a mystery of the season," Skarsgard joked. Ball also teased that it was "a really dorky outfit" but one that Skarsgard can wear "and still be insanely hot."
Regarding Jason's recent ritual werepanther raping scenes, Kwanten said that being strapped down and only able to use his face to act was a nice challenge for him as an actor. As creepy as the scenes were, Kwanten joked that Jason actually may have "enjoyed being called ghost daddy."

Fine, Professor. Forget about that I was your real love on the show, forget that we were roommate for almost five weeks while Dale was sleeping with "Angela" and "The Black Italian" Tre . . . forget about the fact that I made you win Restaurant War . . . forget about the fact that I carried you throughout the Italian challenge . . . forget about the fact that I got kicked off cause someone that knows how to make great Boo-Ger didn't helped too much, forget about that I was the one that prepped the food for you and sent you to the Barbados, let's forget all this, go with Dale and be happy with him. 1. Carrying a balance. Debt is a shackle that holds you back. For instance, if you have a $1,000 balance on a credit card that charges an 18% rate, you blow $180 every year on interest. Get in the habit of paying off your balance in full each month.

2. Overspending on gas and oil for your car. There’s no need to spring for premium fuel if the manufacturer says regular is just fine. You should also check to make sure your tires are optimally inflated to get the best gas mileage. And are you still paying for an oil change every 3,000 miles? Many models nowadays can last 5,000 to 7,000 miles between changes, and some even have built-in sensors to tell you when it’s time to change the oil. Check your manual to find the best time for your car’s routine maintenance.

3. Keeping unhealthy habits. Smoking costs a lot more than just what you pay for a pack of cigarettes. It significantly increases the cost of life and health insurance. And you'll pay more for homeowners and auto insurance. Add in various other expenses, and the true cost of smoking adds up dramatically over a lifetime - $86,000 for a 24-year-old woman over a lifetime and $183,000 for a 24-year-old man over a lifetime, according to The Price of Smoking (The MIT Press).

Another habit to quit: indoor tanning. There is now a 10% tax on indoor tanning services. As with cigarettes, the true cost of tanning - which the World Health Organization lists among the worst-known carcinogens - is higher than just the price you pay each time you go to the salon.
