90210 Rundown: Episode 24, "One Party Can Ruin Your Whole Summer"

I can't stop laughing about this week's season finale of 90210. It is so ridiculously all over the place, I can't help but love it a little. It might even be my favorite episode of the entire first season because it has everything: stoned parents, random crushes revealed, psycho older sisters, babies, sex, Brenda Walsh, a Chinese parade dragon, Annie's emotional meltdown, and more!

Though it may be silly, I have to say the show really got some things right in terms of leaving me wanting more. I know! What the heck? But seriously, I'm looking forward to watching the fallout from this crazy night.

Hands down, the best part of this episode is seeing Harry and Debbie high on pot brownies. I grabbed the scene where it first occurs to them they could be stoned, which is well-acted and made me laugh. Later Debbie gets weird about Kelly maybe having a crush on Harry but chalks it up to a paranoid high. Do you guys remember in the early episode Kelly mentioning dating Harry before? Did I make that up? Do you think this show will go there?

I'm totally convinced someone had enjoyed some pot brownies when they came up with this trippy Brenda scene. What is happening here? Why would they mess with me and even hint that Jim Walsh is dying?! Not cool.

Finally, I present to you the episode's pièce de résistance! Naomi thinks Annie slept with Liam (it was actually her creepy and insane sister) and screams at Annie in the middle of the party. Then someone dumps a drink in Annie's face. And then Annie goes effing insane. It's amazing.

So then Annie goes out for a head-clearing drunk drive in the mountains. It appears she may have killed something. A human? A deer? What's up with that Mercedes? Also, do you guys think it's creepy Ethan keeps a photo of Silver in his coat pocket? Are you happy they make out? What did you think of this finale?!

90210 Rundown: Episode 23, "Zero Tolerance"

This week's episode of 90210 is all about the sophomore prom. Not as exciting as senior prom, but still: people dress up, kings and queens are named, and the school turns on Annie. So, all in all, good stuff.

We also get to the heart of Liam's obnoxious attitude, and it's so not compelling. A crappy step-dad? They could have done better than that. One thing the writers do get right this week is successfully casting and creating a seriously good villain. Naomi's sister is evil, and I like it. Poor Kelly!

And back to Annie: I have so many questions about the video she does with her dad. What is up with that '80s dress she's wearing? And those graphics? Can Harry actually crack down on off-campus activities?

Is it just me, or is the Silver-goes-tanning scene a bit gratuitous? The girl's on screen barely clothed for a long time with no good reason. I thought Silver's tan would go horribly wrong, but no. It goes . . . nowhere. And then I was completely obsessed with the inconsistencies of her tan the rest of the show.

OK. We need an intervention. I don't think I can take one more episode in which Naomi loses it and thrusts that insane scream upon us. It's awful! In this clip, Liam asks her to the prom and then - you got it - she screams. Prepare your eardrums.

Finally, check out Kelly's run-in with her psycho ex-student Jen (Naomi's sister). I wasn't totally sold on this actress at first, but she seriously gives me the heebie-jeebies now - and that's a good thing. This exchange, while funny and absurd (I mean, it's two adult women fighting at sophomore prom!), is also vicious. Love it.

90210 Rundown: Episode 22, "The Party’s Over"

On this week's episode of 90210, the whole group responds to Navid and Adrianna's wedding plans by throwing them parties. We already caught a glimpse of the wedding/baby shower, where everyone looks all happy and sweet - but lots of drama was to come. Like pill popping! And drunkenness!

We also learn more about Liam, who is potentially caught up in illegal activities (and yet still lectures everyone about everything all the time), and get to know Naomi's big sister a little better. And by "get to know" I mean "watch her have sexy time with Ryan."

Hey, look at that! The gang hangs out together at lunch now! I think the show is much better when everyone is friends with each other, even though there really isn't an explanation of how that came to be. Anyhoo, here's Adrianna and Navid delivering their big wedding news. Check out Naomi's totally '90s headband and Annie's braids. Something about these hairstyles strikes me as odd:

Ryan runs into Naomi's sister at the Peach Pit (really? she hangs out at the Peach Pit?), and they flirt, and he tells her he is a writer. Then we get to watch Ryan be a writer. Did you catch what he was typing up on his laptop? The story is called "The Vermilion Steed" (ha!) and it appears to be about a teacher who likes the guidance counselor who is always tossing her platinum hair. Check it out:

Finally, here's Navid stripping for the guys. Just kidding - he was helping out a sorority sister whom they ran into at a strip club, natch. Hilariously, once Navid and his friend end their performance, a ventriloquist takes the stage.

90210 Rundown: Episode 21, "The Dionysian Debacle"

This week's episode of 90210 is actually pretty engaging. Or maybe I'm just feeling better about things because Annie and Ethan are still broken up and there wasn't as much Liam this time around. Seriously, I'm not sure why we're supposed to believe someone as fun, cool, and sassy as Naomi would throw herself at a lame-o like that. Even Annie tries to warn Naomi to stay away, and she's not the brightest bulb when it comes to boys.

The weirdest part of this week's episode has to be Silver's Catholic school experience. You know, lots of people go to Catholic school, and they're not all that religious, but the show takes it to this whole creepy public shaming place. But there was some good stuff to balance it out, which includes the introduction of Naomi's sister. She seems fun/evil.

Even though it doesn't quite fit in with the fast and fabulous lifestyle of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, I'm kind of enjoying this Navid/Adrianna family stuff. The opening sequence, in which they imagine their baby (and by "their baby" I mean "Ty's baby," a fact that causes Navid to slam a door about 6,000 times when Adrianna finally tells him the truth) playing chess is pretty fun. I think they should have their own show:

Meanwhile, Naomi is still living with Annie and it's driving the whole family pretty crazy. In this scene she asks Debbie to iron something and then "rages out" when Liam cancels a date (prepare yourself for the screaming):

90210 Rundown: Episode 20, "Between a Sign and a Hard Place"

This week's episode of 90210 is all about BFFs. Donna is making herself at home in Beverly Hills and is basically leaving David because she's over Japan and misses Kelly. The two women get back into the swing of their friendship and even hit up a lesbian bar together! (Accidentally.) Meanwhile, Annie wants to be a "girl's girl" (whatever that means) and is very serious about being a good friend to Naomi.

I don't know about this particular development. Silver was a much better friend for Annie to have! I'm not sure why she's hitching her wagon to the mean girl if this is really her first time out of the gate making friends with her own gender. Or maybe that's exactly why: She doesn't know better yet.

Other than that, same old same old: Adrianna's still pregnant (and um, apparently less interested in adoption now that Navid is being all cute and reading baby books and, oh yeah, proposing marriage), Ethan is still having an identity crisis, and Liam is still unbearably patronizing and icky.

Ugh, Liam! I have such a hard time with his gibberish. Poor, young Ethan thinks this guy is his wise oracle:

Right before Annie's parents inappropriately tell her Naomi's dad is being sued for sexual harassment, they spend some time unpacking their Kansas stuff for a yard sale. Rob Estes + odd Scottish accent = unintentional comedic gold. Also, check those credits: Estes directed this one!

Finally, here's Kelly and Donna piecing together they're at a lesbian bar. Also, it makes no sense that Donna's store is open already, but what on this show does?

90210 Rundown: Episode 19, "Okaeri, Donna!"

Well, 90210 continues to click along and improve ever so slightly. It's not as laughably bad these days, but it's also not the best thing ever.

On this week's episode, the kids are let loose on Spring break. Dixon and Annie take a road trip together, Ethan and Naomi help Mr. Matthews build houses for Habitat for Humanity, and Silver is stuck at home under the watchful eye of Kelly. Oh, and Donna's back! I missed Navid and Adrianna and think the new guy, Liam, is super annoying.

Liam is supposed to be the new "bad boy" on the show, but he comes off as a jerk at best (and not in the good, Chuck Bass way) and a know-it-all at worst. It's a shame - I thought his casting had so much potential! So I'm focusing this week's videos on his various interactions with Naomi and Ethan, because they're so funny/cringe-worthy.

Check out this hilarious scene, in which he tells this kid what's what about Peyote (Liam learned about "tripping" from Hunter S. Thompson - uh huh):

Naomi cracked me up this episode, but her attraction to being shoved around and sexually manipulated by Liam is way icky:

90210 Rundown: Episode 18, "Off the Rails"

Hey, you know what? 90210 is definitely improving! Ever since Silver's emotional meltdown last week, I've been hopeful this show would keep up the momentum. I can forgive plots that don't make sense and illogical character motivations (Gossip Girl is often guilty of this), but I can't forgive irritating main characters or boring stories, and I feel like the writers are starting to understand that - and to good effect.

This week's episode wraps up a bunch of story arcs that have been around since the start of the show. For me, Annie's the character most in need of an overhaul, and hopefully the writers will be able to focus on what - besides her relationships with boys - makes this girl interesting. She'll have to wait another week, though, as this episode belonged to Tristan Wilds, who is pretty much perfect as Dixon. He's pulling off lines that could very easily come off as cheesy, giving his character real emotional depth. Thank goodness for that! I'd still love to see him lay down the law all Wire-style, especially when Annie's being whiny.

The following clip is a really good example of how much better this show is getting. The editing is interesting, the writing is smart, and I even laughed. Also, this whole episode uses the older members of the cast in a more appropriate way - it's much better when they focus on the kids' drama instead of cluttering up episodes with their own inorganic storylines. It's hard to keep track of who's friends with whom on this show, considering it changes drastically from week to week. Last week, Adrianna and Annie were super-friendly out of the blue. This week, we're reminded that Naomi and Annie hate each other because Annie chose Ethan (who is now dumping her) over their friendship. That's the background of this epiphany, in which Annie realizes that giving up everything in her life because she thought she found "the one" in high school is unwise. Enjoy:

90210 Rundown: Episode 17, "Life's a Drag"

So, who tuned in to this week's return episode of 90210? Those of us sticking with this show have been promised improvements, so I'll be curious to hear your verdict. Are you starting to see signs that things are picking up? The wardrobe looks a little better, and the overall production quality seems more modern, so that's good.

But what about the plot? Well, the bad news is a lot of the dialogue is still howlingly bad. And it's not even fun-bad - it's just bad. For example, at one point Annie's outside in the park at night with a guy from her play, and the first thing he says to her is, "The stars seem so far away." Oof. Thanks, Captain Obvious. However, there is really good news: Silver is totally out of her mind and creates the best student video of all time. Also, Annie's super-mad at Ethan, and Naomi goes drag racing.

Watching Annie get mad is kind of painful but also kind of funny. It's hard to turn away, that's for sure. In this clip, Annie storms up to Rhonda to give her a piece of her mind after she learns from Adrianna (because they're friends now?!) that Ethan was kissing her in the parking lot. Check it out:

Meanwhile, Naomi's "bad boy," Liam, is kind of mean and hostile toward her. It's borderline uncomfortable how angry he seems to be, but she still wants to be around him, so whatever. And finally, I present to you Silver's class video. Um, Mr. Matthews really inspired her. Honestly, this is the funniest/best scene I've seen on TV in a long time (maybe unintentionally?):

90210 Rundown: Episode 16, "Of Heartbreaks and Hotels"

Hello, 90210 fans! This week's episode has more of what I like: over-the-top melodrama. I think that's the right direction for the show - it's slightly less earnest and a little more, I don't know, ridiculous (in a good way). We've got sad, potentially psycho stalker Rhonda; sad, potentially mentally unstable Silver; and sad, insecure-when-it-comes-to-acting Annie. Good stuff, right? Also, Naomi has a new guy to flirt with at her hotel.

You guys, why does Annie steal Rhonda's story? Did you find it all that "deep"? Or compelling? Sheesh. Also, what the heck was Ethan doing at her ~~therapy session~~ acting class? That's sort of Annie's private world! He should have given her a heads up. Or did he? I found that unclear. But that whole scene's worth it for the fight that breaks out between Annie and Ethan ("Go deeper! Go deeper!"). Check it out:

Then there's Naomi and her new bartender guy. He's super cute, right? But kind of cheesy with his line delivery - like in this clip, in which a totally random fight breaks out:

Finally, Silver. Some of you called it weeks and weeks ago, but Silver is not all right in the head. Her moods are manic and all over the place - and the tattoo! Anyway, here's Dixon and Silver at the end of a super lovey date until something goes very wrong (no cake):

90210 Rundown: Episode 15, "Help Me, Rhonda"

Oh, 90210. You are so weirdly sincere about being a good show, but every week you make me laugh, and I just can't quit you. In this week's episode, Adrianna continues to hold center stage thanks to her newest teen issue of the week: being preggers.

At the end of the last episode, it seemed like maybe Ethan died in a car wreck or at the very least was seriously injured, but it turns out Ethan's just fine. He did, however, injure a girl who - to his surprise - is in his French class. He spends time visiting her in the hospital, and somehow Rhonda (Aimee Teegarden from Friday Night Lights, yay!) becomes an oracle of wisdom for poor, tortured Ethan -to Annie's dismay.

In this clip, Adrianna confronts Ty about being pregnant with his child. She also says to him, in a way that made me spit out my Diet Coke last night in laughter, that of course she was on the pill - she was on lots of pills, actually. Check it out:

Then, in this moment, Ethan tries to share with Annie how he's realizing there's more to life than, like, acting and stuff. And Annie's all, "Hello?! I'm trying to talk to you about me?!" At the end of this clip, she looks genuinely shocked that her boyfriend is attempting to think. Hee! Check it out:
