TV Tidbits: Black, Morton, Dudek Nab New Roles

Fall TV is almost here, and I'm pumped to greet my favorite shows again. Part of the fun is seeing the new faces that come along, and today there's a batch of newcomers to meet.

The Daily Show's Lewis Black will make an appearance on The Big Bang Theory as a professor who's down on his luck. He'll only be on one episode - the second of the season - but I'm guessing it will be a memorable moment for the CBS sitcom.
Joe Morton will also be playing a professor next season, but he'll be heading to Brothers & Sisters. Morton has signed on for a recurring role as Justin Walker's anatomy teacher in med school. It sounds like he'll be a mentor type, but friendships don't stay scandal-free for long when it comes to the Walkers.
Anne Dudek will play Piper Perabo's sister on the new USA spy series Covert Affairs.Yay! I've been rooting for her for what feels like forever, since I still think she deserves an Emmy and completely made some of my favorite TV episodes. I'm glad to see she's found a new TV home, though I still would love to see her get a lead role.

TV Tonight: Lewis Black's Root of All Evil

Lewis Black, long known for his rants and raves (well, mostly rants) on The Daily Show, has been called the angriest man in showbiz. Starting tonight, he'll be the angriest judge ever to rule over a pop culture debate when his new show, Lewis Black's Root of All Evil, premieres on Comedy Central.

The show is part People's Court, part comedy showcase, part Lewis Black monologue. But mostly, it's a place where Black can air his grievances about the things in pop culture that make him want to stab himself in the eye with a burning stick. Each episode pits two of Black's particular peeves against each other, as his funny friends - Patton Oswalt and Paul F. Tompkins among them - make their arguments for which is less despicable. Tonight's first debate is Oprah vs. the Catholic Church; later episodes will feature Kim Jong Il vs. Tila Tequila, Donald Trump vs. Viagra, and American Idol vs. high school.

Politically correct it's not - so if you tend to think Black himself is the root of all evil, this probably won't change your mind. But if you like the way he picks his particular pop culture nits, this just might be a show for you. HBO has renewed "Tell Me You Love Me" and picked up pilots about a medical research facility and a biker gang, Zap2it reports.

Comedy Central has picked up a pop-culture debate series with Lewis Black as the moderator, and the Futon Critic has the details.
