Who Should Play Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese's Biopic?

And then there were three. Back in May I asked you all who you would choose to play Frank Sinatra in the upcoming biopic, and Martin Scorsese reportedly has narrowed it down to Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and George Clooney. Apparently Scorsese's first choice is his muse DiCaprio, while Universal Pictures would like to see Depp in the role.

As for Clooney - he's the top pick for Tina Sinatra, who would like the movie to focus more on the more charming side of her father's personality rather than the more gritty aspects of his life. Rest assured that whoever snags the role won't have to sing - the music will feature Sinatra's original voice. So between these three guys, tell me - who should play Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese's biopic?

Angelina Jolie Is Going Gucci

Despite what she may have said in the past, Angelina Jolie's career isn't slowing down anytime soon. Last week we learned that she'll be taking Charlize Theron's place in The Tourist and she may be adding another femme fatale role to her resume. Jolie is in talks to take the lead in Ridley Scott's Gucci.

Jolie would play Patrizia Reggiano, who spent 29 years in prison for plotting the murder of her ex husband, Maurizio Gucci. The script is still being reworked and Ridley's search for his Maurizio continues - apparently Leonardo DiCaprio has been approached but has yet to sign on.

I could absolutely see Jolie in this role, and in general I like when she can show more of her acting chops and less of her kung fu skills. Bonus: Angelina and Leo would make for one hot big screen couple.

Leonardo DiCaprio to Make a Deep Blue Goodbye

This year's lineup of Fall movies has a big hole in it where Shutter Island once was, but fans of Leonardo DiCaprio can rest easy - the man has a whole lotta movies coming our way. His newest project is The Deep Blue Goodbye, which is based on John D. MacDonald's mystery novel series from the '60s. DiCpario will play Travis McGee, a beach bum who enjoys his slacker life aboard a houseboat in Florida. Of course, it isn't long before Travis finds himself in a world of risk, excitement, and ladies. DiCaprio will produce the film as well as star.

DiCaprio's most recent roles have been pretty meaty, which means lots of serious characters. Don't get me wrong, I never get tired of seeing Leo stretch his acting chops again and again. Plus, I'll take any excuse to see him tanned and shirtless again.

Movie Preview: A Quick Peek at Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio is in the midst of filming Inception with the rest of the cast, but it's never too early for a teaser trailer. The peek at Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller doesn't give us a ton to work with, though the minute-long clip was enough to give me goosebumps. I'm immediately reminded of The Matrix, but with a darker, more dangerous twist. The movie doesn't hit theaters until July 16, 2010, and now that Shutter Island has been pushed back, we can expect plenty of Leo next year.

DiCaprio, Ridley Scott Bring Us a Brave New World

Leonardo DiCaprio is a busy guy these days. A day after we learned that he'll be producing a version of Little Red Riding Hood with "a Gothic twist," there's news of him adapting another story: Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. DiCaprio will reportedly produce and star in the film and Ridley Scott is attached to direct. The futuristic novel has been adapted for television before but this will be its first time on the big screen. Risky Biz Blog provides a refresher on the story:

Huxley sets his book in a seemingly perfect 26th century world that has achieved harmony by tightly controlling birth, which takes place mainly in laboratories, and outlawing family. The world is populated by a series of five castes, each with its own defined roles.

Characters who figure in to the story are Bernard . . . and Lenina, the woman with whom he is infatuated. DiCaprio is would likely play Bernard, who is persecuted when the leaders of the society find his behavior antisocial.

DiCaprio is apparently looking to play Bernard. The site points out that dystopian stories have proven difficult to adapt for film, but after Blade Runner it seems Scott is a good choice to at least give this adaptation a shot. What do you think? Is it about time for a big screen Brave New World? Or should Hollywood just leave well enough alone already?

DiCaprio Plans "Gothic" Version of Little Red Riding Hood

No, he won't play the title character, but Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly planning to produce a thriller about Little Red Riding Hood - one that probably has a not-so-sweet ending. The "reimagining" of the old story is said to have a "Gothic twist," and may be based on "oral versions of the tale, which date back to the Middle Ages, [and] are far darker and sometimes involve a werewolf rather than a wolf; the first published version, by Charles Perrault, concludes with Red Riding Hood eaten by the wolf, with no happy ending."

Though it's annoying to think of yet another scary film focused around a female victim, I like the idea of an updated, adult version of Little Red Riding Hood that hasn't been declawed. Like Hansel and Gretel, this story frightened me as a kid, so the ingredients are certainly there for a spooky film. I would love to see Tim Burton's take on Little Red Riding Hood, that would be amazing. But I digress. Can you imagine a dark and scary version of Little Red?

Movie Preview: Leo and Michelle in Scorsese's Shutter Island

Within about 20 seconds of watching this trailer for Shutter Island, I had chills. By the time it was drawing to a scary, climactic close (and this is just the trailer, mind you) I was fully spooked. More than most frightening things, the idea of being trapped in an asylum (or a prison) as a presumably sane (or innocent) person disturbs me right to the bone.

Shutter Island takes place in 1954 when "U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels [Leonardo Dicaprio] is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. Teddy's shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals 'escape' in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything - his memory, his partner, even his own sanity."

Christopher Nolan's Inception Cast Gets Interesting

We knew that Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan was next directing a "contemporary sci-fi action" movie he wrote titled Inception, and that Leonardo DiCaprio would be the next big A-lister to work with him. Now an interesting trio has been added to the cast, including an Oscar winner, a young Oscar nominee and a "Scarecrow."

Apparently "Warner Bros. is in talks with Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page to join the cast of Inception." Nolan has never worked with Cotillard or Page, but Cillian Murphy starred in Nolan's Batman Begins (and had a brief appearance in The Dark Knight) as the creepy Scarecrow.

The plot of Inception remains a mystery, besides being a sci-fi action flick "set within the architecture of the mind." (Architecture of the mind?) Still, though details are sketchy, the combination of this cast and Christopher Nolan in the director's chair has increased my interest in Inception tenfold.
