TV Today: "Legally Blonde: The Musical" Hits MTV

Didn't get tickets to see Legally Blonde: The Musical in the theaters? Don't worry - a version of the Broadway show hits MTV today. The special includes a filmed version of the Sept. 18 New York stage performance of the musical and a "pink carpet" hosted by Lauren, Whitney and Audrina of "The Hills."

A lot of you seemed open to the idea of making movies into musicals, but you cautioned that it will only work with certain movies. Will Legally Blonde be one of them? And will "The Hills" girls add a necessary dose of sass? Check out the special, which airs starting at 1 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, and then let me know. What Do You Think About Movies Made Into Stage Musicals?

Earlier this week, Pop had pictures of some of the ladies from "The Hills" in New York for an event in which MTV filmed the Broadway stage musical production of "Legally Blonde". The show will air next Saturday, September 29. This whole thing got me thinking about the whole concept of making movies into stage musicals.

There have been plenty of these in recent years, from High Fidelity to Young Frankenstein and, soon enough in New York, Dirty Dancing.

What do you think about taking successful films and adapting them for musical theater?

Raise the stage curtain for another movie turned musical: Big Fish is getting the Broadway treatment. It's easy to see why the Tim Burton film would make its way to the stage, what with its fanciful scenes and larger-than-life story. Big Fish is hardly the first movie to inspire a Broadway production - in recent years, Elf, The Wedding Singer, even the documentary Grey Gardens have been adapted into musicals.

Films are an easy enough place to get inspiration, and often times it works; sometimes the show is just as good as the original. Such is the case with the last movie-turned-musical that I loved: Legally Blonde, which managed to make a cute movie an equally fun show.
