Stairway to Gilligan's Island

This is one of those ideas that starts out great. Combine footage and lyrics from one classic, Gilligan's Island, with the music from another classic, Stairway to Heaven. Giggling (at least for me) gave way to the feeling that this ganja-inspired (I'm guessing) mashup was a little too spooky for my tastes. But why don't you just sit right back and you'll hear a tale. . .

Stanley Tucci will join Amy Adams and Meryl Streep in the Julia Child movie Julie and Julia, Variety reports.
VH1 has a whole bunch of new reality shows in the pipeline, writes The Hollywood Reporter, including one in which contestants act out the sins of telenovelas and a female version of The White Rapper Show called Miss Rap Supreme.

American Idol: Who Deserves to Get Cut This Week?

Nothing brings the spunk out of American Idol contestants like personal idols week. Stevie Nicks stopped by for a little mentoring, and even though no one chose her as their idol (awkward), Elise did get to do a little in-studio duet with Ms. Nicks herself. We'll forgive Elise for forgetting the lyrics a little bit (more awkward) because her Led Zeppelin cover was really impressive.

Despite his underwhelming rendition of "Everything," (the fact that Lifehouse is anyone's idol is beyond me), Colton Dixon is still in my top three, and let's face it, he's not going home. Skylar's jumpy schtick was great in the first few rounds, but it's getting a little old now. HeeJun was better than last week, but that's probably because of all the flack he got for his silliness. Still, good for him for rising to the occasion finally. After all the tears, trios, failed falsettos, and bizarre nature backdrops this week, I know who I'd send packing, do you?

John Carter Trailer: Tim Riggins Is an Interplanetary Warrior

Friday Night Lights fans who have been missing the cast will be happy to see Taylor Kitsch starring in John Carter (formerly known as John Carter of Mars), an epic sci-fi adventure. Kitsch stars as the title character, a human Civil War veteran who gets transported to Mars, where the nations are warring against each other. He's initially a prisoner, but after impressing the alien locals with his considerable strength and talent for fighting fearsome creatures, Carter gets recruited to help fight on the side of the Martian nation of Barsoom, which happens to be headed up by Princess Dejah Thoris, (Lynn Collins), a scantily clad love interest.

Kitsch looks great with his bulging biceps adorned by very little battle attire, but the preview only manages to make the movie look like a knockoff of other films in the genre. From the plot to the appearance of the alien people and giant monsters, there's very little that seems original about John Carter (and come on, there's no way you can cover yourself in blue paint and not force a reference to Braveheart). Still, I'm happy to see Kitsch in the starring role of anything, and Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" playing over the trailer does make it feel a bit more exciting. It looks like we aren't the only ones inspired by dogs! Whether they're singing lead vocals or the title's inspiration, these songs about dogs have left their mark on music. The next time you're going to make a Summer playlist, keep your furry friends in mind with these tunes.

1. Led Zeppelin - "Black Dog"
The song's title is a reference to a nameless black Labrador Retriever that wandered around the studios during recording.

2. Cat Stevens - "I Love My Dog"
A little ironic how much a man named Cat loves his dog?

3. Pink Floyd - "Madmoiselle Nobs"
The track is named after the dog who provided howling vocals in their 1972 film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. Madmoiselle Nobs stood in for the dog "Seamus" who originally provided howling accompaniment on the album version of the tune.

4. Aerosmith - "Walking the Dog"
Aerosmith covered this song by Rufus Thomas for their first very album in 1973.

5. George Clinton - "Atomic Dog"
This 1982 video is amazing. There is some serious doggy dancing animation going on. Snoop Dogg, Biz Markie, and 2Pac have all sampled the song's hook.
