Do You Like Seeing Politicians on Late Night TV?

Earlier this week CBS announced that President Barack Obama will be on The Late Show With David Letterman on Monday. In fact, the entire broadcast will be devoted to Obama's visit, which is a huge milestone. Obama was a guest several times on the program during his campaign for office, but this is the first time a current president has appeared on the show.

I get why Obama is sitting in Dave's chair, but isn't The Late Show better suited to guests like, oh, Drew Barrymore and George Clooney? Not to mention, President Bill Clinton is set to be Letterman's guest on Tuesday, so we'll have back-to-back policy talk.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always tuned into late night shows for the lighter celebrity stuff. If I want to hear about health care reform, I'll flip to MSNBC. But what's your take on this - do you like watching politicians on late night TV?

Monday's "Late Show with David Letterman" turned into a veritable convention of indie rockers when the musical guests took the stage. Feist dropped by the show to perform "1 2 3 4" from The Reminder, and she brought with her a full backing chorus - including AC Newman of The New Pornographers and members of Grizzly Bear, Broken Social Scene, The National and Mates of State.

As if it wasn't enough just to see them all sharing the stage, they also dressed in matching white outfits with sparkly armbands. Can you even handle the cuteness? To watch the performance, read more

Live Clip: The New Pornographers on "Letterman"

It's been a big week for AC Newman, frontman of The New Pornographers. His band's latest album, Challengers, hit stores. His band performed live on "Late Show with David Letterman." And, oh yeah, he got married in a New York Times-documented ceremony with the likes of Neko Case, David Cross and Mates of State entertaining at the reception. Nice life, huh?

I ran out to pick up Challengers as soon as I left work yesterday, and while I still need to spend some more time with the album before issuing my final verdict, I'm already a big fan of "My Rights Versus Yours," which the group performed on "Letterman." It's great to see them performing with Neko Case - she wasn't touring with them the last time I saw them live - and it made me even more excited to see them here in San Francisco next month. TV Tonight: Nicole Without Paris on "Letterman"

Unfortunately for Dave, it just wasn't in the cards for him to get both halves of the notorious Paris/Nicole duo on tonight's show. The more diminutive starlet, Nicole, will be in the house to wax philosophical about "The Simple Life Goes to Camp," but the heiress who invented Famous For No Reason, Paris, is stuck behind bars.

While Nicole will surely keep things squarely on the ridiculous side of the spectrum, it's just not the same level of (sometimes unintentional) hilarity as when the girls are both around. Tune in to see how many different words for "jail" Dave will work into the broadcast! My guess is six.

Adam Sandler Pinch Hitting For Letterman

The AP is reporting that Adam Sandler will be sitting as host tonight while David Letterman recovers from a stomach flu. Sandler was originally scheduled as a guest on Late Show With David Letterman with Don Cheadle, since the two are promoting their new movie, Reign Over Me. But now, it seems that Sandler will be interviewing Cheadle.

I'll be interested to see how Sandler does; I bet he'll do a better job than Jimmy Fallon would anyway. Guest hosts always seem to have fun filling in for Dave (remember when he had shingles?) but I hope he gets well soon.

TV Tonight: Letterman's 25th Anniversary

David Letterman celebrates 25 years in late-night television tonight, and whether you love the man or loathe him, you have to admit he's had some pretty great moments over the years. Quite a few have involved Bill Murray, who was Letterman's first guest on his old NBC show in 1982 and quickly became a regular, getting heckled by a rowdy production assistant in the Groundhog Day era and talking about moisturizer pre-Ghostbusters II.

David Letterman Admits on Air He Had Sex With Staff Members

Well here's something I didn't see coming - while taping tonight's episode of The Late Show With David Letterman, Dave revealed to the audience that he was recently blackmailed for $2 million dollars. Apparently the extortionist sent Dave a letter a few weeks back, threatening to go public with information that the talk show host has had sexual relationships with several female members of his staff.

Dave went on to tell the audience that he met with the individual and had the person in question arrested after passing over a fake check for $2 million. He continued, "This morning, I did something I've never done in my life. I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury. In terms of the affairs, he said, "My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would. I feel like I need to protect these people - I need to certainly protect my family."

Sex scandals are sadly common these days, but I'm still pretty shocked about this news - and even more surprised that Dave came clean on national television. My heart goes out to his wife and family. The episode won't air for a few more hours, but while we wait to see the video - what do you make of this news?

Last week, David Letterman made waves (to say the least) when he revealed on the air that he had been blackmailed for $2 million regarding information about sexual affairs with female members of his staff. Whether the announcement surprised you or not, it seems that we all feel sympathetic for Letterman's wife and family. Last night Letterman used his audience as a sounding board once again, apologizing first to members of his staff who have been harassed since the affairs went public, and then to his wife Regina, saying that he has his "work cut out for him." Just like the first time around, Letterman used a casual tone and threw a few jokes in to keep things light, but is it really appropriate to follow-up a heartfelt apology to your wife with a Sarah Palin jab? While many of us are rabidly awaiting tomorrow - aka New Moon Day, as it's known around Sugar HQ - the cast is undoubtedly looking forward to the end of the promotional rounds. But their exhaustion doesn't make them any less eager to please - witness Kristen Stewart on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, who starts out a little quiet, but eventually warms to the funnyman. She divulges how Martha Stewart confessed a dream about Robert Pattinson to her - to which Stewart offered to hook them up (she even imitates the domestic goddess!). And then there's Pattinson himself, who doesn't know the definition of dull moment as he describes the fan-biting phenomenon to David Letterman.
