David Milch Brings Cop Show to HBO

David Milch and HBO, together again.
Milch, the creator of the beloved Deadwood and the reviled John from Cincinnati, is taking his third shot at an HBO series with a new cop drama.

What's the story?
Milch is going back to his Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue roots with this one, called Last of the Ninth. The show is set in the New York Police Department in 1972, and Milch said the story revolves around "an older detective's mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries, and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute." Sounds intense.

Maybe this could be the next great cop show.
With HBO's The Wire and FX's The Shield both ending after this season, it seems like a good time for a new, dark, gritty police drama. What do you think?

Brad Pitt Touches Down While Angelina Talks About Her Sexy Oscar Dress

Brad Pitt was met by a swarm of photographers and fans last night when he touched down at LAX. The actors on a break from film at the moment which has given him a chance to catch up on the progress his Make It Right Foundation is making in New Orleans. Brad talked with Ellen DeGeneres about strides that have been made in New Orleans and gave a tremendous amount of credit to the amazing group of people working to return the Lower Ninth Ward to what it once was.

Brad's coming off an exciting award season, and it seems Angelina Jolie is finally speaking out about her famous leg-baring Oscar dress. According to Angelina she had no idea the gown would create so much buzz. Angelina said, "I honestly didn't pay attention to it. You know what I mean? I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it . . . I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention. It's as simple as being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else."

Angelina Jolie Returns to LA With Frequent Fliers Zahara and Shiloh

Angelina Jolie touched down in LA today with her oldest daughters, Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt. The trio are back from their two-day stopover in Amsterdam, where Shiloh and Zahara went sightseeing on a boat and Angelina attended court proceedings against Thomas Lubanga, a Congolese rebel. Zahara and Shiloh spent one-on-one time with Angelina after hanging out with Brad Pitt in New Orleans last week. The kids traveled with him to the Big Easy while he personally checked in on the progress of his Make It Right Foundation. Brad even hosted a fundraising event for his philanthropic organization with live entertainment provided by Sheryl Crow, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and Rihanna. The celebration raised more than $4 million to build homes for the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie waved last night as they headed off to his Make It Right NOLA gala at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. He organized a charity auction and bash to raise funds for the organization's ongoing efforts to build sustainable homes in the city's Lower Ninth Ward. Brad rounded up famous pals like Ellen DeGeneres, Rihanna, Aziz Ansari, and Kanye West for the event, which may have raised as much as $4 million. Speaking of the famous attendees, Brad was humbled they'd travel to Louisiana. He said, "They carved this time out of their schedule strictly for this event, and came on their own dime. We have so much incredible talent that wanted to come and support the city - it's going to be like a mini-Grammys show."

Billy Crystal as Oscar Host: Solid Gold or Getting Old?

Billy Crystal took on hosting duties for this year's Oscars, and the seasoned vet (this was his ninth time as emcee) seemed comfortable being back on stage. As I'd hoped, Crystal brought back his trademarks, like the opening montage spoofing the nominees, along with his song-and-dance medley that skewered stars and movies alike (sample lyric: "George is cracking up because his wife is shackin' up"). I enjoyed Crystal's hosting, mainly because it felt pretty classic; then again, using his old routines may have felt safe or boring to some people. Still, it was far better than Anne Hathaway and James Franco's effort last year. I'd like to hear what you guys thought of Crystal, though - do you think he succeeded as host or not?

That same year, Goucher's record-breaking debut marathon earned her third place in the New York City race and the first spot on the podium for an American woman in more than a decade. After a year off from competition to celebrate the birth of her son (she ran up to and including the day he was born), Goucher is back in fighting shape and headed to London. There, she'll get a second shot at bronze, silver, glory, and gold.
