Is Reality TV Better When It's About Unusual Lives?

Until some news around TLC's programming came out this week, I never gave a lot of thought to a reality TV subgenre that TLC likes to call "unusual lives." The set includes shows like LA Ink - that's star Kat Von D at left - and American Chopper, and anything else that showcases people working in non-mainstream professions. (TLC has new "unusual lives" shows on the way about a bikini maker and a class at a makeup academy.)

It's kind of a neat little genre of reality TV, more like mini-documentaries than about throwing a bunch of people in a house together and seeing who explodes. On the other hand, how relaxing is it to sit down in front of the TV after work only to watch other people work? Do you like watching these shows about unusual lives?

Shirtless Justin Bieber Flaunts His Muscles and New Tattoo on the Beach

Justin Bieber joined a group of friends on the beach in LA yesterday. He went shirtless and showed off his muscles by doing push-ups in the sand with his pals. Justin wasn't just displaying his abs - he also debuted a tattoo of Jesus on the back of his leg. He had the new ink bandaged up during a December getaway with Selena Gomez in Cabo, where the couple shared PDA poolside. They were together again for NYE in NYC, but she didn't join Justin for his latest outing. He had the company of his dad, Jeremy, though, earlier yesterday for an a.m. visit to the gym.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux Take a Walk With Her Dog Dolly

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux went for a stroll around Beverly Hills yesterday afternoon. Justin held onto Dolly's leash while Jen carried a bottle of Smartwater in her hand. Dolly is Jen's only dog since her other pup, Norman, passed away earlier this year. Jennifer had Norman's name tattooed on her foot in remembrance of the pet and showed off the new ink in NYC this Summer.

Jennifer and Justin have been splitting their time between the East and West Coasts, though they've been hanging out around LA in recent weeks. The couple is apparently staying at the Sunset Tower Hotel, where they're spending a reported $20,000 per month. They indulged in a less expensive activity on Friday when they went to the movies. Jennifer and Justin caught a screening of Hugo and apparently just missed Brad Pitt and his kids, who were at the same theater for an earlier showing.

Emma Stone Talks About Her Farmville Addiction, Tattoos, and Shares a Shot of Moonshine With Jimmy Fallon

Emma Stone stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in NYC yesterday to talk about her new film The Help, and from there grabbed a bite to eat at Japonica and then went to Chelsea Piers for ice cream. During their chat, Jimmy and Emma took a shot of moonshine, a drink she often enjoyed with costar Viola Davis while filming in Mississippi, and the fun didn't stop there. Emma went on to confess that she was forced to shut down her Facebook account due to her Farmville addiction. In the spirit of sharing, Emma also gave the explanation behind her wrist tattoo, blackbird feet drawn by Paul McCartney, which her mom, brother, and dad also have inked on their arms. Emma's trip to the Big Apple follows the star-studded LA premiere Tuesday night, where Emma, Viola, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, and the rest of the cast talked about bonding over Southern cooking and gaining weight for the film. The Help opened early to attract a wider audience, and it appears the marketing plan is working with estimates The Help could take in more than $30 million over the first five days. A solid opening weekend is just one more thing to celebrate this week since Emma also scored a contract as the new face of Revlon.
