All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below, you can also add Jessica Biel's Powder Blue to your queue, along with the first season of Designing Women.

I can't quite explain it, but there's something just completely adorable to me about imagining Kyra Sedgwick and Amy Sedaris in a room together. I think the two would have hilarious conversations. And tonight, we get to find out what it's like when they're acting side-by-side, as Sedaris shows up on the first of two episodes of The Closer.

Much of this season's best TV is on cable, and tonight TNT premieres its first round of summer shows: the third season of "The Closer" and the first of "Heartland."
I rarely go out of my way to watch "The Closer," but when I do catch it, I'm never disappointed. As cop dramas go, it's pretty by-the-books, with decent (if not groundbreaking) cases for Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) and her team to solve.

The Golden Globes get a lot of press for which movies they honor, but I'm always glad they invite TV folks to the party, too (and not just because I like seeing big- and small-screen stars getting tipsy together). The Emmys are a long way off, and this way, some of the great shows of the fall season can get some early recognition. Besides picking "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy" as the best series, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association also made interesting picks — some obvious, some less so — in the acting categories.

Award season is kicking into high gear! Following the Golden Globe nods earlier this week, the Screen Actors Guild just released its list of potential honorees. While most of the nominees are expected, there are a few names that I'm excited to see, like Diane Kruger for her supporting role in Inglourious Basterds!

Well, not too many surprises here — one of the most buzzed-about films of the season (and on my list of personal favorites), Up in the Air, will be well represented at the Golden Globe Awards next month. Jason Reitman's film scored six nominations, including Best Director, Best Actor (yay Clooney!), and not one but two Best Supporting Actress nods for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
Of course, it also earned a best dramatic film nomination along with Inglourious Basterds, which was right on its heels with four nominations of its own.

Glenn Close is taking home the Emmy for the second year in a row for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for Damages! She beat out Sally Field, Mariska Hargitay, Holly Hunter, Kyra Sedgwick, and Elisabeth Moss.
I was pulling for Elisabeth Moss, but I'm not surprised about this one.
