Darling Companion Trailer: Diane Keaton Gets Cozy With a Cute Pup

In Darling Companion, Diane Keaton and Kevin Kline play husband and wife Beth and Joseph Winter, who go looking for their dog - and the strength in their relationship - in this heartfelt flick. Beth is far more concerned with her pooch Freeway than her workaholic husband, who is fully aware of where he stands in the pecking order and chooses to simply overlook it. That is, until he does the unthinkable and loses the dog. The film delves into the issues of their relationship as the entire community gets involved in the search for Beth's - you guessed it - darling companion.

The story certainly has a bit of a Marley & Me vibe, but it also has an awesome cast chock-full of talent, like Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss, along with one of our favorite guys these days, Mark Duplass. But supporting cast aside, can you ever really go wrong with some solid Diane Keaton? We think not. To check out this cute trailer, just keep reading.

Movie Preview: James McAvoy in Robert Redford's The Conspirator

Bust out your stovepipe hat, because we're about to journey back to the time of Abraham Lincoln. Robert Redford's The Conspirator centers around the trials following the assassination of our 16th president, and in particular, the lone woman charged with taking part in his murder: Mary Surratt. Robin Wright plays the accused, while James McAvoy steps into the role of her lawyer. But perhaps Surratt was actually innocent? The film's trailer suggests that she was covering up for her guilty son in the ultimate act of motherly love.

Historical dramas often get a bum rap for being boring, but I'm already intrigued by this one. It looks like part courtroom drama, part thriller, with a stellar cast. Redford has pulled together a supporting ensemble featuring everyone under the sun, including Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Kline. My only concern: Long's mustache. I'm sorry, but it's just ridiculous. Give it and the rest of the film a look after the jump.

I'm not sure who I'm most charmed by in this preview for The Extra Man: Paul Dano as a proper young man in New York City, Katie Holmes as his colleague and crush, or Kevin Kline as his curmudgeonly mentor. To be sure, Kline is the star, teaching Dano how to be an "extra man" - that is, a man who wines and dines older society ladies to get by.

This is definitely a slice of a quirky indie, with Kline holding court in an over-the-top character-driven role. And since Holmes's onscreen appearances are rare these days, I'm always curious to see what projects have drawn her in. To watch the trailer for The Extra Man, just

Holmes, Kline, Reilly and Dano Set to Star in The Extra Man

The story of a male escort is one that producer Springer Berman believes will resonate with many folks during these tough economic times. Jonathan Ames's novel The Extra Man will be adapted for the big screen with a few big names attached to star: Kevin Kline, Paul Dano, Katie Holmes and John C. Reilly. Here's more on the project:

Kline plays a failed playwright who works as an escort for rich widows on the Upper East Side. He develops a mentor-student relationship with a troubled aspiring playwright (Dano).

"This is a film for our times, these hilarious characters living on the edge of enormous wealth, scrapping for small pieces of the pie," [producer Springer] Bregman said. "I suspect a lot of people will be able to identify nowadays."

Hmm. . . I wonder what role Katie Holmes will play - hopefully not one of these rich widows because. . . yikes that's some age gap. Are you familiar with this book?

A Funny Thing Happened on Ryan and Scarlett's Way to the Benefit

Mrs. and Mr. Ryan Reynolds hit the red carpet separately at the A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's benefit for the Michael J. Fox Foundation in NYC last night. While it may not have been the evening where Ryan and Scarlett finally posed together, they both looked fantastic out to support the cause. Ryan did have some photo partners, however, including the man of the night Michael J. Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan. Ryan ran the NYC Marathon last Sunday to benefit the foundation, which is close to his heart due to his father's Parkinson's diagnosis. As two of the big celebrity Obama supporters, Ryan and Scarlett have quite a few things to celebrate this week - now if only we could ever actually see them do it side by side.

Buzz In: Who's Your Favorite Movie President?

Sometimes movie presidents are so much more fun than real life presidents. With a team of talented screenwriters and directors behind them, they often make the kind of grand, inspirational speeches that can be pretty rare in the real world. And they seem to get away with a lot of stuff, too.

Take Kevin Kline's character in the movie Dave, for example. He isn't even supposed to be president, he's just a doppelganger subbing in, which is totally against all the rules and stuff. But you know what? He has a good heart, and that's what matters in movie presidents.

Of course, things get all meta and mind warpy when you start to think about biopic movie presidents, but they count, too, for these purposes. So, who is your favorite movie president? Do you agree with a recent poll that Harrison Ford in Air Force One is the best? I personally like Jeff Bridges (pictured) as President Jackson Evans in The Contender. He nominates a - gasp! - female vice president and all hell breaks loose.

Movie Night: Far-Off Destinations

I've been really inspired by traveling this week - both because of my own itch to go on an adventure and because I have a handful of friends who are either planning their honeymoon or enjoying it right now. As part of my travel urge, I got to thinking about movies that captured a culture and a country so well that they've made me add a new entry to my list of places I have vowed to visit. Come away with me on a mini-jaunt around the globe via this movie night!

Out of Africa
This Oscar-winning classic directed by the late Sydney Pollack starred Meryl Streep and an extremely dreamy Robert Redford, but the biggest star of the film is East Africa. The movie is loosely based on Karen Blixen's 1937 autobiography about her real-life journey to Kenya. The character based on Blixen enters a loveless marriage but then meets Redford's character, a local-game hunter, and an epic romance ensues. The movie was filmed on location and is breathtakingly beautiful. If this doesn't make you consider Africa as a travel destination, I don't know what will.

French Kiss Most people probably don't need their arms twisted to stick France on their travel list, but when a movie comes along that captures that certain je ne sais quoi of the French countryside, vineyards, and coast, it makes not being there feel nearly intolerable. French Kiss is one of those movies, and it stars Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline as unlikely partners in a trek across France. She's on a mission to get her cheating fiance back, and he's a petty criminal who helps her as a means to reach his own goal of buying back a vineyard he lost. Their chemistry is charming, but the way the film captures the spirit and nonchalance of the place is what makes it a lovely vicarious trip abroad. Sex and Lucia To call this movie racy is probably an understatement. The word "sex" is in the title for good reason, because there's a lot of it in this mystical Spanish film - and it's pretty explicitly discussed and enacted. You've been warned. That said, nearly five years after I first saw this, what sticks with me are the unbelievably gorgeous shots of nature: the azure skies and ocean set against the snow-white sands of Spain's Balearic Islands. After this movie, this semi-remote location has remained high on my list of places to get myself to. Source and Source

Ben Watches Radiant Jennifer's Broadway Premiere

Ben was front and center at Jennifer Garner's official Broadway debut in Cyrano de Bergerac, alongside her illustrious costars Kevin Kline and Daniel Sunjata. Afterwards Jen flashed her big grin alongside her director, David Leveaux, at the after party. It's been a never ending string of red carpets for Ben (he must have accrued quite the suit collection), but this one was probably one of the most special. You were overwhelmingly positive about the chance to see Jennifer during her 10 week run and it sounds like it's all deserved. The New York Times described Jennifer as "captivating," "comfortable" and that she "radiates megawatt beauty." It has been quite the fall for the Garner-Afflecks. Ben and Jen are both rolling in the good reviews today - yay - but their daughter is always going to get the most gushing raves.
